Downtown does not usually feel like this on a Thursday. Then the barricades go up on The Alleyway, the smell of somebody's fryer reaches the corner before you do, and a street you normally drive through without looking becomes a place you stand in for four hours.
The vendor mix rotates, which is the whole charm — regulars with a following next to somebody selling a thing they made at their kitchen table and decided, this week, to finally show people. Food trucks, artisan goods, handmade work, small business pop-ups, live music, and a downtown actually using its own streets instead of saving them for cars.
It runs the first and third Thursday of the month through the season, evenings, free to walk into, with parking nearby. Full schedule at murrietamarketnights.com.
Bring the neighbor who keeps saying there is nothing to do out here. Let the fryer make the argument for you.
