The Monthly Tabletop Open is the version of game night that doesn't end at midnight because someone decided to keep the venue open — a real gaming space, a rotating selection of tabletop titles, and the specific pleasure of showing up without a plan and finding out what everyone else is already playing. The GameSync Tabletop Open runs with a library that covers more ground than any one group's collection: competitive titles, co-ops, deck-builders, heavy strategy games that require the full table and the full evening. The staff knows the games and will teach anything on the floor. New players show up and find the room welcoming because the format assumes you're learning the game, not arriving as a veteran. Monthly means it has regulars. Regulars means there are people in the room who will remember you next month. That's the infrastructure of a real community, not just a one-off event. The Magic: The Gathering Marvel Super Heroes Tabletop Release Day is the day the set is officially live at retail — the Friday when the shelves open, the sealed product hits the counters, and the set that everyone has been previewing for weeks is finally available to crack open. Release Day is not a tournament — it's the celebration of a new set arriving. The local game store events on release day vary by store: some run draft pods, some run sealed, some open the day with casual play and prize support for the first players in. The Marvel set brings the full IP catalog into Magic's card frame for the first time, which means every card is legible at two levels — the Magic mechanic and the character it's built around. The first weekend of a new set is when the community gathers to figure out what everything does — the theory meets the card for the first time. Four days of open gaming in Burbank. LFG CON is Los Angeles' dedicated tabletop gaming convention — a community-run event designed for people who play board games, tabletop RPGs, miniatures, trading card games, and everything in between. The 2026 edition runs August 13–16, 2026, at the Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel, 2500 Hollywood Way, Burbank, CA 91505. LFG CON is pure open-gaming focused: the convention model here is not a dealer hall or a celebrity panel room — it is an enormous game library, organized play events, publisher demos, RPG sessions, and an open gaming floor that runs from morning to past midnight every day of the convention. Games and Gamers Unite. Bring your group, find a group, or drop into a game already in progress. Strategicon Gateway is the flagship Labor Day weekend tabletop gaming convention at the LAX Hilton — one of three annual Strategicon events that anchor the SoCal tabletop community calendar year after year. If you have not been to a Strategicon event, the format is unlike anything else in the convention circuit: the entire hotel becomes a gaming space for four days, with scheduled tournaments, open gaming tables running 24 hours, wargame tournaments, LARP events, and a dealer room packed with hard-to-find games. Gateway has the prestige of being the Labor Day edition, which draws the biggest crowds and the most ambitious gaming projects. Multi-day campaigns happen here. Pickup games for titles you have been waiting years to play happen here. The hotel room hallway conversations that turn into lifelong gaming groups happen here. The tabletop gaming community in LA has been meeting at Strategicon events since the 1970s. Gateway 2026 is August 28-31 at the LAX Hilton. Pre-registration available at strategicon.net.
