What it was like

Every first weekend of May, Old Town Front Street stops being a tourist district. The wine bars stay open. The antique shops stay open. But for two days, five hundred-plus classic cars take over the brick-lined street, and the people who built them stand beside their machines ready to explain every decision they made.

The Temecula Rod Run ran May 1-2, 2026, at Old Town Front Street in Temecula, CA. Free admission both days. No tickets. No registration. You just show up.

Friday is Cruise Night (5-8 PM): the cars move. Engines running, owners driving slow through the crowd. You hear it before you see it — that low, purposeful rumble that tells you someone spent years on that motor. Saturday is Show and Shine (9 AM-4 PM): they stop. Hoods up. Now you can look. Model A's. T-Buckets. T-Birds. Roadsters built from donor frames with period-correct details. Projects mid-obsession. Finished machines that took decades. The owners are standing right there.

Old Town Temecula is worth the trip on a normal weekend. The first weekend of May is when the regulars stay home and the car people come in. Family-friendly, free parking in public lots and surrounding streets, Old Town shops open both days.

Missed it? Rod Run 2027 will be the first weekend of May — always is, every year. This is the kind of event where the people who know about it have been coming for decades. The people who find out about it once tend to come back.

Pacific Beach Night Market
Tomorrow · Jun 4 Free Bayard St and Garnet Ave, Pacific …

Every Thursday evening, Pacific Beach comes alive at the corner of Bayard Street and Garnet Avenue. The PB Night Market runs from 5 to 9:30 PM, just 150 steps from the Pacific Ocean, and brings together 9 to 12 rotating food vendors, fire pits, games, and live music in one of San Diego most walkable beach neighborhoods. This is a neighborhood gathering, not a ticketed event. You show up, grab something to eat from one of the food trucks or pop-up vendors, and settle into the fire pit area for the kind of spontaneous Thursday evening that does not need a plan. The music is live and local -- acoustic sets, small bands, the occasional DJ. The crowd is a mix of Pacific Beach locals, students, and anyone who wandered over from the beach. Vendors rotate weekly. Past offerings have included birria tacos, banh mi, craft lemonade, Hawaiian shave ice, artisan pastries, and local small-batch hot sauces. A few artisan and craft vendors typically set up alongside the food. Free to attend. No tickets, no RSVPs. Just walk up. Dress for the beach breeze -- it cools off after sunset even in summer.

Some shows exist because the room and the artist are the right match — BELLE & SEBASTIAN: TIGERMILK + CLASSIC SONGS at Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood is one of those, the kind of night the regulars mention for months. There is no second chance at this particular night in this particular room — that is the only thing a live show offers that recordings can't replicate.
