About

The Pomona Fairplex Comic and Toy Expo is one of the longest-running collector shows in the Inland Empire, bringing together vintage comic book dealers, action figure vendors, model kit sellers, trading card specialists, and pop culture collectible merchants under the massive exhibition halls of the LA County Fairplex. Unlike the larger comic cons, this event is primarily a marketplace: rows of dealer tables loaded with back-issue comics from the Golden Age through the Modern Age, loose and carded action figures from the 1970s through the 2000s, vintage toys, prototype variants, and the kind of deep-catalog items that collectors spend years hunting online but prefer to find in person. Artists and indie publishers also table at the expo, providing a mix of collector commerce and creator community typical of shows in this format. The Fairplex at 1101 W McKinley Ave in Pomona provides ample climate-controlled exhibition space and free or low-cost parking. The show runs across a weekend with both days open to the public. Admission is typically $10-15 at the door. This is the show for serious collectors in the San Gabriel Valley, Inland Empire, and greater LA area who want depth over spectacle.

Anime Matsuri 2026
Jul 23 – Jul 26, 2026 Paid - $40-$120 George R. Brown Convention Center,…

Anime Matsuri is one of the largest anime conventions in the South, running July 23–26, 2026 at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. It draws over 30,000 attendees across four days and has been a fixture on the national convention circuit since 2007. The show is notable for its international guest programming — voice actors from both the English dub community and Japanese seiyuu appear together, giving it a wider appeal than West Coast conventions that often tilt exclusively toward the dub or sub crowd. The dealer room is substantial, the artist alley is one of the largest in Texas, and the cosplay masquerade draws serious competitors from across the region. For West Coast attendees, Anime Matsuri is a summer travel destination with a genuinely different energy from Anime Expo or FanimeCon. Houston's Gulf Coast heat is real — the convention center is air-conditioned, but outdoor lines are not. Plan accordingly. Four-day badges and specific guest photo ops sell out. Pre-registration is strongly recommended. The George R. Brown is connected to the downtown tunnel system for hotel-to-venue walking in the heat.

FanimeCon 2026
May 22 – May 25, 2026 Paid - $75-$120 San Jose Convention Center, 150 W …

FanimeCon is one of the oldest and largest anime conventions in the United States, running every Memorial Day weekend since 1994 at the San Jose Convention Center. It draws 25,000-30,000 attendees over four days and is the flagship event for the West Coast anime community. Unlike larger conventions, FanimeCon is entirely fan-run. No corporate booths dominating the floor. The panels, screenings, and programming are organized by volunteers who have been running this event for decades. That community ownership gives it an atmosphere that is hard to replicate. It feels less like a trade show and more like the largest anime club meetup in California. Programming runs 24 hours across the weekend. The cosplay masquerade on Saturday is a full theatrical production. The gaming hall is one of the best at any convention, running tournaments, free-play consoles, and retro arcades through the night. The dealer room and artist alley are substantial, with indie creators outnumbering corporate licensors. Bay Area, Sacramento, and Central Valley attendees make up the core, but it draws convention-goers from across the West Coast. Four-day badges sell out. Single-day passes may be available at the door. If you have been to Anime Expo but not FanimeCon, the culture is meaningfully different.

Comic Con Revolution Ontario 2026
In 14 days · May 16 – May 17 ✨ New Ontario Convention Center, 2000 E …

Comic Con Revolution is the indie-focused alternative to the massive corporate cons — and the Ontario edition is one of the best community comic conventions in the Inland Empire. Now in its 9th year, CCR Ontario brings together comic book creators, independent artists, voice actors, and pop culture guests in a deliberately human-scale environment where you can actually get up close to the people who make the things you love. The show is famous for its Artist Alley, which spotlights independent comics and illustration work that never makes it to the mainstream con circuit. It is the kind of event where a first-time creator sells their debut zine and a seasoned comic veteran signs at the table next to them. Both crowds come for the same reason: to be in a room with people who actually care. Tickets are 8-60 depending on the day, with two-day passes available. Ontario Convention Center is easy to reach from across the IE, LA, and the 909.
