A spades table is where you find out who somebody really is. There will be one running all afternoon, loud, with a crowd three deep around it, while the DJ works from R&B into Afrobeats and the bay does that thing it does when the light drops behind the skyline.
This is the day San Diego's Black community takes the waterfront for itself — live performers and DJ sets from afternoon into the night, a marketplace of Black-owned businesses, artists, and makers, art installations, and food worth planning your appetite around. Organized by SD Melanin, strictly grown folks, and built so that the celebration and the economics happen in the same place on the same day.
Waterfront Park on Pacific Highway, with general admission and table service for groups who want to post up.
