City of Buena Park — Juneteenth Celebration of Freedom 2026

The news took more than two months to travel. The war had ended, the order had been signed, and enslaved people in Texas went on working through a summer that legally was not theirs anymore, until word finally arrived in 1865. That gap is what the day is actually about, and it is why the celebrating carries an edge of defiance underneath it.

Buena Park puts its version in a neighborhood park on a summer evening, the Blue Breeze Band running soul, R&B, and jazz across the grass while the kids do what kids do at the edges of a concert. The city pays for the whole thing, which means nothing costs anything, parking included, and it starts early enough that families with small children get all of it.
