Some of the best comedy in this city happens in the back of a coffee shop with about a hundred chairs in it, and it costs nothing, and that combination has confused people for years.
No cover. No drink minimum. No corporate anything. Just a room, a mic, and comics who keep coming back to University Heights because the audience is real and the booking is better than a free show has any right to be. Some weeks it is a rotating lineup of working comedians. Some weeks it is a marathon with a headliner closing it out. The alumni list is long enough that on any given night you might be sitting in the room for someone's breakthrough set — a thing you only recognize much later.
Twiggs on Park Blvd, Saturday nights at 8. Tips are encouraged and the bar takes cash. Get there early, because the back room fills.
