You can tell the room by the sound it makes when a match ends — not cheering, just a long exhale and the shuffle of a deck being taken apart. Everyone here has been building toward this since the last banned list dropped.
A Regional Championship is the highest level of competitive Magic a person can simply register for, and the finishers walk out with Pro Tour invitations. Swiss rounds grind across Saturday; the top 8 come back Sunday for elimination. The Western field is deep — Los Angeles alone routinely puts 200 to 400-plus players in a hall, because the game stores, the Commander rooms, and the legacy limited scene here never went quiet.
Around the main event: last-chance qualifiers Friday, limited side events all weekend, Commander pods, and vendors buying and selling singles at tables that become their own marketplace. Registration opens through the Wizards Event Locator months ahead.
