Pokemon Regional Championship — Los Angeles 2027
Jan 9 – Jan 10, 2027 Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…

Every League Cup result since September was practice for this. The Pokemon Regional Championship comes to Los Angeles in January 2027 — one of the premier competitive Pokemon events on the organized play calendar for both the Trading Card Game and Video Game Championships. Regionals are the third tier of organized play, below Internationals and Worlds but significantly above local events. They draw serious competitors from throughout the Western United States, all chasing Championship Points in the qualifying window for Pokemon Worlds. VGC features doubles battles under current format regulations — the most recent generation with format-specific ban lists that shift each season. TCG runs the current Standard rotation. Both require deep meta knowledge, optimized builds, and the consistency to run 8+ rounds of Swiss before top cut. If you have been grinding since the season opened, you know what that means. If you haven't, you will feel the difference in round three. Alongside the main event: side events throughout the weekend — sealed formats, draft events, prerelease, and the merchandise vendor area that draws collectors and players equally. Sealed product exclusives and convention-only merchandise appear at major regionals. Venue for the 2027 LA Regional will be confirmed by Play! Pokemon several months in advance. Check pokemon.com/us/pokemon-trainer-club/organized-play for registration. Pre-registration is required — it fills quickly in competitive markets. January 2027, Los Angeles. The season has been building toward this. Show up ready.

Sukeban World Championship Fight Night — Anime Expo 2026
In 7 days · Jul 3 51.6 Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…

This is not a wrestling show with an anime theme. It is a convergence: Harajuku fashion aesthetics, anime character energy, live music, and genuine athletic competition fused into one arena experience. Sukeban is Japan's premier female pro wrestling league — and its first-ever World Championship Fight arrives at Anime Expo 2026 on July 3rd at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The league brings rival girl gangs from Tokyo — the Harajuku Stars, Cherry Bomb Girls, and Vandals stables — fighting for a championship belt on the biggest stage in the league's history. Special appearances confirmed. Every match is a story arc. Every outfit is a character declaration. The room this fills: anime fans who also watch wrestling. Sneakerheads who follow Harajuku drops. AEW and WWE fans who've been waiting for something that hits different — aesthetically, athletically, culturally. Sukeban occupies an intersection no other event touches: J-fashion, pro wrestling, anime convention, live performance. Ticketed separately from AX general admission to keep the room committed. Entry requirements: valid Anime Expo credential (4-day or any 1-day pass) plus a separate Sukeban event ticket. GA Floor (standing): $51.60. Balcony A (seated): $101.60. VIP Ringside: $151.60. Tickets at leapevents.com — limited capacity.

Los Angeles Summer International Open IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship 2026
Jul 11 – Jul 12, 2026 1201 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, C…

The International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation believes the mat is a meritocracy — and this tournament is where that belief becomes observable. The IBJJF Los Angeles Summer International Open brings hundreds of competitors from across Southern California and beyond to the Los Angeles Convention Center for two days of sanctioned gi competition. Divisions span all belt levels, ages, and weight classes. On any given Saturday, the competitor who trained in a Fontana garage is rolling against someone from one of the most decorated academies in West Hollywood. The belt is the only credential that matters once the timer starts. Spectators enter free. There is no badge required, no pre-registration. You walk into South Hall J and find a mat. The room sounds like a gym — quiet focused intensity interrupted by the tap of a submission — and then the next match begins. If you have trained for any amount of time and want to understand what competitive BJJ looks like when it's taken seriously, this is the room that shows you. The competitors know exactly where they stand in their weight class. Everyone in the building knows exactly why they're there. Held July 11–12, 2026. Los Angeles Convention Center, South Hall J, 1201 S Figueroa St, Los Angeles, CA 90015. Free spectator admission. Athlete registration through IBJJF. Parking $30.

2026 San Diego Harley Davidson Masters Boxing Championships
Jul 11 – Jul 12, 2026 4645 Morena Blvd, San Diego, CA 92…

Amateur boxing usually ends sometime in your thirties. Masters boxing assumes that premise is wrong. The 2026 San Diego Harley Davidson Masters Boxing Championships brings together competitive boxers aged 40 and older for two days of sanctioned USA Boxing competition. The field spans novice divisions (zero to ten bouts) and open divisions, men and women, from flyweight to heavyweight — structured enough to produce genuinely competitive matchups across every category. The venue is a motorcycle dealership on Morena Boulevard. This turns out to be exactly right. The crowd is blue-collar in the best sense — people who have been around boxing long enough to know what they're watching. Weigh-ins start at 8am. Doors open at 11am. Bouts begin at noon on Saturday and Sunday. Masters boxing is not nostalgia. The people training for this are serious athletes in their forties, fifties, and sixties who never stopped coming to the gym. The footwork is smarter. The combinations are more deliberate. There is a quality to a boxer who has thirty years of accumulated ring intelligence behind every decision — something you do not see in the twenty-year-olds. Free optional meet-and-greet Friday July 10, 4–6pm. Competition July 11–12, 2026. San Diego Harley Davidson, 4645 Morena Blvd, San Diego, CA 92117. USA Boxing sanctioned. Spectators welcome.

EVO 2026 — Fighting Game World Championship
Jul 31 – Aug 2, 2026 Mandalay Bay Convention Center, La…

The Mandalay Bay Convention Center turns into the most electric building in Las Vegas for three days every summer when EVO comes to town. This is the Fighting Game World Championship — the oldest and largest competitive fighting game tournament on earth, where thousands of players from over sixty countries compete across the genre's biggest titles for world titles, prize money, and bragging rights that last a year. EVO 2026 runs July 31 through August 2 at Mandalay Bay. The main stage lineup typically includes Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Mortal Kombat 1, Guilty Gear Strive, and Dragon Ball FighterZ — though the final game list is announced in spring. Players compete in open brackets that anyone can enter. You do not need to qualify to register. Show up, pay the entry fee, and play against the best in the world. What to expect as a spectator: the main stage is standing room and free with convention access. Top 8 finals each night pull thousands into the arena. The crowd has seen it all and loses its mind at comebacks that should be impossible. Side events, vendors, and community tournaments fill the convention hall all day. Tickets for convention entry go on sale in spring. Players register separately through start.gg. If you play fighting games at any level — casually or competitively — EVO is the pilgrimage.

EVO Championship Series 2026 — Las Vegas, NV
Jul 31 – Aug 2, 2026 0 Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, 39…

The world's best fighting game players meet once a year in Las Vegas to settle arguments that have been running online all year. EVO is where the ranked standings become real. What does EVO feel like? The Mandalay Bay ballroom floor transforms into a cathedral of controllers — hundreds of setups running simultaneously while the crowd noise builds toward top 8. The atmosphere mixes the intensity of a UFC main event with the community warmth of a family reunion. EVO is the rare competition where the crowd knows every player by their tag, where an unknown player from anywhere in the world can defeat a legend on the world stage, and where a single combo clip can become a viral moment watched by millions. First-timers describe the open bracket as overwhelming and immediately addictive. Veterans describe it as a homecoming. Is EVO worth it? If you play fighting games at any level — casual to competitive — yes. The open bracket lets anyone enter and compete against the field. Side tournaments run constantly throughout the weekend across dozens of games. Even if you never enter a bracket, watching the top players perform at this level changes how you see the game. If you've never played a fighting game but love the energy of high-stakes competition, EVO's top 8 finals are some of the most dramatic live sports experiences you'll find anywhere. This is not for spectators looking for passive entertainment. It is for people who understand that a single button input made wrong is the difference between winning and losing — and find that beautiful. What to know before you go: The open bracket fills fast — register the moment registration opens or expect to wait. Pool play runs most of Friday and Saturday; top 8 finals are Sunday afternoon. Wear comfortable shoes — the venue floor is enormous and you will walk miles. The Las Vegas heat in late July is extreme; plan transit between hotels. Side events, merch lines, and creator meet-and-greets run all weekend in the community hall adjacent to the main floor. Get there early on Sunday for top 8 — seating fills before the doors formally open. EVO is on Falkor's Nation's Best list because it is one of the few events in sports where a genuinely global skill hierarchy is established in real time on a single weekend. When the EVO champion is crowned, every player in the world knows the result. That is rare. The tournament also functions as the gaming industry's most visible annual benchmark — developer announcements, new characters revealed, and industry deals announced poolside. For anyone in or adjacent to competitive gaming culture, Las Vegas in late July is the center of the world for three days. The affiliate click is the receipt. Discovery is the point.

Call of Duty League Championship 2026
Aug 22 – Aug 23, 2026 From $308 TBD — United States

The Call of Duty League Championship is where the entire season's argument gets settled — the best franchised teams in the world, one weekend, one bracket, one title. The 2026 CDL Championship venue is TBD, but tickets are available now from $308 at callofdutyleague.com. The CDL operates at the level of major American sports infrastructure: franchised city-based teams, long-season formats, broadcast partnerships, and a championship event produced with the values of a traditional sports final. The players who make it to Championship weekend have won elimination matches all season to be there. What you watch in the arena is not performance — it's resolution. If you've followed the CDL season, you know the storylines that arrive with each team. If you're new to it, Championship weekend is the entry point — the broadcast explains the bracket, the crowd tells you the narrative. Esports arenas create a specific kind of energy: the audience is younger, louder, and more knowledgeable than a traditional sports crowd about what they're watching. That changes what it feels like to be there. Book early — Championship weekend sells as the bracket fills.

Pokémon World Championships 2026
Aug 28 – Aug 30, 2026 Moscone Center, 747 Howard St, San…

The 2026 Pokémon World Championships arrive at Moscone Center in San Francisco August 28-30, alongside the first-ever PokémonXP fan festival — the highest level of competitive Pokémon play in the world, open to spectators. Players who compete at Worlds have qualified through regionals and nationals across a full season. The Masters Division bracket represents the best Pokémon TCG, VGC, and GO players in the world — people who have studied the metagame with the intensity of professional athletes. Watching the tournament floor is watching optimization happen in real time: deck construction decisions made months ago either pay off or they don't, and the margins are sometimes one card, one turn, one choice. The PokémonXP fan festival runs alongside the tournament and is built for the broader community: game demos, merchandise, side events, and the specific atmosphere of tens of thousands of Pokémon fans in one building. Moscone Center is a world-class facility with space to handle this well. Spectator badges at worlds.pokemon.com. San Francisco in late August is excellent — book accommodation early because the city fills during Worlds. The Masters finals run Sunday afternoon. Plan your travel around that session.

What it was like

The Spring Fling Disc Golf Championship at Morley Field in San Diego's Balboa Park is one of the premier amateur disc golf tournaments in Southern California, held each May on the course that occupies a specific place in disc golf history: Morley Field Disc Golf Course has been in continuous operation since 1972, making it one of the oldest operating disc golf courses in the world.

The tournament format runs across two days with amateur divisions covering all skill levels — from Recreational for genuine beginners through Advanced, Open Am, and Masters age divisions. Each division plays the full Morley Field 27-hole course, which combines wooded fairways, open elevation changes, and the narrow technical shots that have made Morley a proving ground for San Diego's disc golf community for five decades.

Disc golf has grown dramatically in Southern California in recent years, and the Spring Fling draws from a regional player pool that extends from San Diego through Orange County and into the Inland Empire. For the San Diego disc golf community, the spring tournament season that Spring Fling opens is the competitive calendar's backbone.

Morley Field is located within Balboa Park at 2221 Morley Field Dr in San Diego. Parking throughout Balboa Park. Tournament registration through the PDGA event system — entry fees vary by division. Spectating is free. The course is open to public play outside tournament rounds and is a genuinely good course experience for non-competitive play as well.
