What it was like
If you have ever had to explain to a houseguest why there is a skull on the bookshelf, keep reading. Over a hundred vendors fill the floor with taxidermy, preserved specimens, original dark artwork, horror-inspired clothing, antiques, quack medical devices, odd jewelry, bones, funeral collectibles, and handmade objects that fit no category anyone has bothered to name. This is emphatically not a Halloween store. The curation is the whole difference. These are collectors, artists, and specialists who do this full-time, and the people walking the aisles arrived knowing exactly what they came to hunt. Sideshow performers work the stage across both days. Hands-on classes run alongside: opossum taxidermy, ratalope coffin taxidermy, octopus wet specimen, entomology habitats, all taught properly and all filling fast. Children get in free, which produces some genuinely excellent family photographs. Bring the friend whose apartment you have always described to other people as a cabinet of curiosities.
