Hillcrest CityFest 2026 — San Diego Summer Art & Music Festival

A neighborhood does not look like a festival venue until the barricades go up and nine blocks of Fifth Avenue belong to people instead of cars. That is the whole trick of it. Hillcrest closes its main street once a year and becomes the largest arts and music street fair in San Diego — seventy thousand people, two hundred and fifty vendors, two stages running from afternoon singer-songwriters through indie rock into the DJs after dark. It is not a corporate production. It is a neighborhood showing you what it has always believed about itself, and the crowd proves it: artists, musicians, lifers, day-trippers down from LA, all of them staying hours longer than planned because something keeps stopping them. Free, outdoors, from noon until the street finally quiets. Go with someone you have not properly caught up with in a year — you will end up talking the whole way through.
