OCRD Vitamin C Squad vs Ventura County Derby Darlins + Juniors (Best of the West Coast Showdown)
Halfway through the first jam it stops being a novelty and turns into a sport you are actively trying to keep up with. The contact is real. The strategy is real. The chess-like positioning — blockers building and collapsing walls in traffic at speed — is the thing that converts a curious first-timer into somebody who checks the schedule.
None of this exists because a franchise found a market. Flat-track leagues form because skaters want to compete and then build the entire apparatus themselves, and Orange County has been part of that scene out here for years. The juniors open the afternoon, which is its own argument for arriving early.
An afternoon in Irvine, family attendance encouraged, and you bring your own chair for floor seating.
Bring the kid who needs to see women hit that hard on purpose. Then watch what they do with the rest of the afternoon.

The strategy in flat-track derby becomes visible about two jams in. By the fifth, you have forgotten you did not already know the sport.
