There's a specific kind of embarrassment that the best singer-songwriting earns the right to -- fragile, literary, saying the thing out loud that you'd normally keep folded up -- and Will Sheff has spent his solo records living there. After nearly three decades of Okkervil River, he decided that was enough of one band, and what came next had to be a quieter shape with his own name on it. Soda Bar is the room for that on a Tuesday: three hundred capacity, El Cajon Boulevard, twenty dollars, the crowd who taped Okkervil shows in the early 2000s and now drive across town for an early-bedtime acoustic set.
