Willis + Zzzahara

There is a record you would put on at three in the morning when anything cleaner would feel like a lie, and for a certain crowd that record is Willis - Atlanta-rooted, a little sad, indie pop that keeps its hooks intact under a layer of fuzz and a layer of synth and whatever the bedroom recording session produced that week. Zzzahara opens, and it is the kind of opener that elevates the whole night: LA-based shoegaze with the real heavy reverb, the kind of band whose fans drive between cities for the small rooms. Music Box on a Thursday is the room for this - five hundred capacity, downtown, the crowd made of the catalog people for both bands plus anyone who follows the right dream-pop accounts. Twenty dollars at the door.
