What it was like
The regulars treat it like a family reunion that happens to have V8 engines idling in the driveway. Nobody is competing. Nobody paid a fee. Somebody's uncle is explaining a carburetor to a stranger who asked one polite question twenty minutes ago and cannot leave now.
A monthly on the corner of Mission and Garnet, a block off the sand, with no entry fee and absolutely no pretension. Everything turns up: restored muscle, classic trucks, custom hot rods, Japanese imports — the full spread of San Diego car culture parked within earshot of the surf. Steve has been running these long enough that the crowd knows each other by first name and by what they drive, which around here amounts to the same thing.
Bring your car if you have one, your story if you do not, and an appetite for the taco shops down the block.
This is the version of car culture that lets anybody in. Bring someone who assumes it would not.
