What it was like
Some rock and roll never left the garage and never wanted to. Fuzzed-out, snarling, soaked in the sixties, played by lifers who treat a Farfisa organ like a sacred object and will absolutely tell you why yours is the wrong model.
This is a whole night of it. The Loons have carried the torch for this city's psych-garage underground for decades; the other two bands on the bill bring the younger, meaner end of the same sound. Stack them at the Casbah and you get the sweaty, reverb-drowned kind of show that reminds you rock and roll was always supposed to be slightly dangerous and mostly fun.
The record-collector kids with the Nuggets box set and the boots already know the secret: San Diego has quietly been one of the best garage towns in America for forty years, and nights like this are the proof.
Bring the friend who says nothing good happens here anymore. Stand them near the front and let it settle the argument.
