The way your mom says your full name is an entire genre and nobody outside the house ever knew it. Daniel Lopez built an audience of hundreds of thousands on exactly that — the tías, the cookouts, the specific arithmetic of a Latino family in the Inland Empire — before he had properly worked a club. The 909 does not always get the tour stop or the big name or the sense that the culture remembers it exists out here, so when one of its own breaks through, the whole region turns up to claim him.
