You know the music before you know that you know it. The dread-pulse under a Walking Dead standoff, the war drums of God of War, the aching Outlander theme, the strange sacred choir of Battlestar Galactica — Bear McCreary wrote the sound of a dozen fictional worlds that quietly moved into your memory and never left. Hearing it performed live, by the composer himself leading a band through those themes, does something a soundtrack never can: it pulls the feeling out of the screen and puts it in the room with you, at full volume, with a crowd of people who felt it too and were maybe a little embarrassed by how much.
