Dozens of people who built their own sabers gather during Comic-Con week to settle who can actually fight with one. It has been going for ten years now, and what started as enthusiasts swinging illuminated polycarbonate has turned into a real circuit: choreographed duels, freestyle bouts, fighters who train for months at a time. The blades crack audibly when they connect. Nobody in the crowd arrives expecting it to be genuinely athletic, and everybody figures that out inside of one round.
