Padres Mexican Heritage Celebration

For a lot of families in this city the border is not a line, it's a commute, and this is the night the ballpark finally says so out loud. Mexican Heritage night at Petco pulls in the fans who grew up with baseball on one side of the fence and futbol on the other, who take the Pacifico-presented jersey every bit as seriously as any playoff ticket, who hear the mariachi strike up between innings and feel something quietly settle in their chest. San Diego and Tijuana have always been one metropolitan heartbeat pretending to be two separate cities, and for nine innings the Padres belong fully and equally to both. The limited jersey is the real draw, and the community rows fill early, three generations deep in the same section. Bring your tio who has strong opinions about everything, especially the batting order. It happens at Petco Park on a Friday night when the Twins come to town.
