About

The Gaslamp Quarter has six hundred restaurants and you've been to the same four for three years. It's not your fault — the menus look alike from the sidewalk, and the hostess stand is always doing that thing where they pretend not to see you. Taste of Gaslamp exists to break the pattern.

For thirty years, this self-guided food tour has turned 16 blocks of downtown San Diego into a choose-your-own-adventure for people who eat with their whole personality. Twenty-plus restaurants open their doors on September 12 with signature small bites — not samples, not scraps, but the dish each chef actually wants you to try. You walk at your own pace from 1 PM to 4 PM, and the only rule is that you can't go back to the same place twice (you will anyway).

General admission gets you in the door everywhere for $50. VIP adds exclusive bites, specialty drinks, and the kind of access that makes you feel like you know someone. The after-party at Margaritaville's rooftop runs from 4 to 7 PM with a live DJ and Gaslamp skyline views that remind you why you live here.

Check-in at Good Night John Boy, 401 G St., San Diego. 1 PM to 4 PM. General admission $50, VIP $78. After-party at 435 Sixth Ave., 4 to 7 PM.

Taste of North Park 2026 — San Diego
Oct 4, 2026 30th St and University Ave, North …

You think you know your neighborhood. Then you walk into the restaurant you’ve passed a hundred times and taste something that makes you wonder what else you’ve been missing on your own street. Taste of North Park is San Diego’s most intimate food crawl — more than 50 restaurants, bars, and cafes opening their doors across the North Park neighborhood on Saturday, October 4, 2026, from 11 AM to 3:30 PM. This is not a food festival in a parking lot with foldout tables. This is the neighborhood itself as the venue — you walk the streets, duck into storefronts, taste what the chef has been obsessing over, and by the third stop you’re already planning which friend needs to come next year. North Park is where San Diego’s food scene lives when it’s not performing for tourists, and this is the day it shows you everything at once. Tickets at tasteofnorthpark.com. The route winds through 30th Street and University Avenue, North Park, San Diego, CA 92104.

Taste of Soul LA 2026
Oct 17, 2026 Free Crenshaw Blvd (Martin Luther King …

The smell reaches you before the stages do - barbecue and catfish and soul food covering a mile-plus of Crenshaw Boulevard, because every major Black-owned restaurant in South LA has a booth out here and the food is the center of the whole thing. For one Saturday in October, this stretch between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Leimert Park Village becomes one of the largest street festivals in Los Angeles. More than 300,000 people move through in a single day. The format is street vendors, restaurant booths, live music stages, a car show, health screenings, and community organization presence - but it is the food and the crowd that make it. Founded by the Los Angeles Sentinel, the oldest Black-owned newspaper in California, it has run for over two decades and stayed a genuine community institution: multigenerational, neighborhood-rooted, and enormous. This is Leimert Park and Crenshaw at their fullest. Free to attend. Crenshaw closes to traffic for the day. The Metro K Line stops at Leimert Park Village and is the easiest way in and out. Arrive early if you want to move - by noon the crowds are deep.

Taste of Encinitas 2026
Aug 25, 2026 818 S Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas, CA…

Every August, the stretch of South Coast Highway 101 in downtown Encinitas transforms into an open-air tasting room. The Taste of Encinitas invites you to stroll from restaurant to restaurant, sampling signature bites from the cafes, bakeries, seafood houses, and taco spots that make this beach town one of the best food corridors in North County San Diego. This is not a festival with a stage and a headline act. This is a neighborhood walking its own Main Street, tasting what the people who live here already know is there. The restaurants that participate are not pop-ups. They are the places with regulars who come every Tuesday. The event runs from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM, which means you are eating as the sun drops behind the Pacific a few blocks west. The light in Encinitas at that hour is the kind of thing people post about without thinking about it. Bring comfortable shoes — you will walk more than you expect, and every block has a reason to stop. Tickets are available through the Encinitas 101 Main Street Association. If you have eaten at one Encinitas restaurant but never walked the whole strip in one night, this is the invitation.

Taste of Laguna Food & Music Festival
Oct 1, 2026 Festival of Arts, 650 Laguna Canyo…

Laguna Beach spends all summer as an art colony and a postcard, and then on one October evening it becomes something better: a party thrown by its own restaurants, inside the grounds where the art actually lives. Taste of Laguna gathers more than thirty of the town's kitchens under the open sky of the Festival of Arts, pours unlimited tastings, and lets a live band play while you drift from plate to plate as the canyon cools and the string lights come on. It is 21+, it is unhurried, and it has the particular magic of eating a whole town's worth of good food in one place while the people who cooked it stand right there. The Orange County locals who treat a good meal and a warm night as the entire point of living here will be there. October 1, 2026, Festival of Arts, 650 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach.

Taste of Oceanside 2026
Oct 3, 2026 MainStreet Oceanside, 330 N Coast …

The best way to learn a neighborhood is to eat your way through it without a map, just a passport booklet and the vague instruction to follow the smell. Taste of Oceanside has been doing this to downtown Oceanside for years, turning the coastal stretch between Coast Highway and the pier into a walking food tour that makes you realize you have been driving past fifty restaurants without ever stopping. On October 3, 2026, from 2pm to 5pm, over fifty downtown Oceanside restaurants, bars, and eateries open their doors for a tasting event that moves at your pace. Check in at 330 N. Coast Highway, grab your passport, and start walking. Two shuttles circulate the district for anyone who prefers riding to walking — or whose third tasting hit harder than expected. MainStreet Oceanside runs this event because they know the real product is not the food. It is the moment you walk into a place you have never noticed, taste something that makes you close your eyes, and realize you are coming back next week with someone who needs to try this. The restaurants are not performing for a panel. They are introducing themselves. Oceanside's downtown has been quietly building one of North County's best food scenes, and this is the day it proves it.

Taste of Carlsbad Village 2026
Oct 9, 2026 Carlsbad Village Association, Stat…

One thousand people, one stainless steel spork, and three hours to prove that the village you drive through on the way to somewhere else is actually the destination. Taste of Carlsbad Village sells out every year because the format is honest — a self-guided walking tour through downtown Carlsbad where you meet the chefs at the door and the food is the conversation. On Thursday, October 9, 2026, from 5pm to 8pm, the Carlsbad Village Association opens the doors of its best restaurants, bars, bakeries, and tasting rooms for an evening that turns a Thursday into a weekend. Your ticket comes with a passport, a monogrammed reusable spork, and a sip cup if you bought the drink package. You navigate the village at your own pace, stopping wherever the line is shortest or the smell is strongest. What makes this different from every other food walk: it is capped at one thousand tickets. The restaurants are not overwhelmed. The chefs are actually there. The portions are not apologetic. You are not fighting a crowd of five thousand for a sample cup — you are having a conversation over a bite with the person who cooked it. Carlsbad Village after dark, when the shops close and the restaurants light up, is one of North County's best-kept secrets. This is the night it stops being a secret.

You found your people.

They didn't know each other before Falkor either.
