Johnny Blue Skies & The Dark Clouds — Mutiny for the Masses 2026 Tour at Viejas Arena San Diego
Sturgill Simpson didn't just change his name to Johnny Blue Skies — he changed everything. The last country artist who walked away from Nashville at the peak of his commercial power to make the music he actually wanted to make was exactly nobody, because nobody else has the nerve.
Johnny Blue Skies brings the Mutiny for the Masses 2026 Tour to Viejas Arena at San Diego State University on Saturday, September 13 at 8 PM. The Dark Clouds back him — a band assembled not for commercial viability but for the kind of uncompromising rock and roll energy that made A Sailor's Guide to Earth feel like a religious experience. Viejas Arena's 12,000-seat capacity means this is a proper arena show for an artist whose fans treat every performance like a private communion.
The cult around Sturgill-now-Johnny runs deep. His fans don't just buy tickets — they text three people the second they see the listing. If someone in your life has strong opinions about bluegrass and psychedelia simultaneously, this is the show they've been waiting for.
Viejas Arena is on the SDSU campus, accessible via the Green Line trolley. The kind of artist who makes you rethink what country music is supposed to be.
