Stayin’ Alive: The Bee Gees & Beyond with Rajaton & the San Diego Symphony — Rady Shell

One falsetto and one bass line, and whatever part of you remembers being alive in the late seventies wakes right up, even if you were not born yet. The harmony does the rest. Six Finnish voices and a full symphony orchestra is not the arrangement anyone would have predicted for this catalog, and it turns out to be the right one. Rajaton takes the vocal parts apart and rebuilds them in six, the orchestra puts weight under a rhythm section that was already immaculate, and songs written for a dance floor turn into something closer to liturgy without losing an ounce of the groove. Outdoors, on the harbor, with the water doing what water does to sound. The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park on the downtown waterfront, an evening in summer. Send it to whoever taught you these songs. They have waited decades for somebody to take them seriously.
