What it was like
First Thursday of every month, downtown Los Angeles becomes what it was always supposed to be — a city that lets you walk into art without asking permission.
DTLA ArtNight opens over 40 galleries, pop-ups, and creative spaces simultaneously across the Historic Core and Grand Avenue. No tickets. No velvet ropes. You walk into a gallery on 4th Street, pick up a map at Emerging Gallery, and spend the next four hours discovering work you did not know existed by artists who live three miles from you. MOCA participates. So does the gallery that opened last month in a space that used to be a dry cleaner.
The collaborative monthly event brings new exhibitions every first Thursday — meaning what you see in August will never be shown this way again. Live music drifts between venues. The Redbird garden party is a regular favorite. Local vendor markets line the sidewalks. This is not a museum visit. This is a city revealing itself.
August 7, 2026. 6 PM to 10 PM. Free admission. Start at Emerging Gallery, 125 E 4th St.
