Vista Viking Festival 2026 — Year of Loki

Grown adults hit each other with swords in a field and the crowd picks sides, loudly. That is the part nobody expects to enjoy as much as they do, and it is why this weekend has run for twenty-four years without ever once explaining itself. The theme this time is Loki, so trickster energy runs through the competitions, the storytelling, and the vendor village, where the handcrafted goods look forged by somebody who takes blacksmithing extremely seriously, because they do. Axe throwing. Archery. Spear flinging. Norwegian cultural demonstrations from people who grew up inside them. A beer garden pouring mead and ale, music that sounds like it wandered out of a fjord, and small children in horned helmets running loose while their parents pretend to supervise. A weekend in Vista at the old engine museum, with details at vistavikingfestival.com. Take the friend who has been quietly waiting for permission to own an axe.
