A chord change can reach your body before it ever reaches your ears. You heard this one once — a car with the windows down, a kitchen where somebody's grandmother was cooking — and it never left. It sat there waiting for the night you would hear it played on a stage with the Pacific behind it.
That sound sold twenty-five million records and turned 'Bamboléo' into a song the whole world knew and nobody could explain why it moved them. Nicolas Reyes, the voice that started it, still leads. The set pulls across four decades — 'Djobi Djoba,' 'Inspiration,' the Flamenco Beach material — played by musicians who learned this the way their families have for generations, in the south of France among the Romani community that made the music theirs.
