Derek Trucks was thirteen when the Allman Brothers let him sit in. Thirteen. He was already pulling sounds out of a Gibson SG that made grown men look at each other like they had witnessed something they could not explain.
He still does it, now beside Susan Tedeschi, whose voice goes from a whisper to a howl inside a single breath, at the front of a twelve-piece band that moves through soul, gospel, rock, and jazz without announcing the transitions. This is not really a concert. It is closer to a revival meeting for people who believe in the blues.
The Rady Shell hands them the whole waterfront sky to fill on a warm August night on the bay. Lukas Nelson opens with a road-earned voice of his own.
Every show they play is different, which is why people follow them around the country. Come get haunted by a slide guitar tone for the next three weeks.
