My Hero Academia in Concert

The first time the strings hit the You Say Run motif in a room where you can feel the bass in your ribs, you're going to understand something the streaming version never told you — that Yuki Hayashi wrote music that was always meant to be physical. My Hero Academia in Concert arrives at Jacobs Music Center with a 15-piece live band performing the complete score across all eight seasons, synchronized to projected anime sequences on screen. San Diego Symphony's hall was built for sound that fills a room and stays in your chest, and Hayashi's compositions — the triumphant brass of All Might's theme, the fragile piano lines underneath Shoto's backstory, the full-orchestra crescendo when Deku figures out what his hands are actually for — were always orchestral music wearing a different costume. Every watch party you've been to played the show on a screen. This one plays the music in the air between you and the screen, performed by people breathing the same tempo. The crowd will be half cosplay, half people who came because someone said this was the one not to miss. Both will be right. Jacobs Music Center, San Diego.
