Tidelands Park in Coronado becomes a very specific kind of museum on the second Sunday of September — one where the exhibits run, leak oil, and their owners explain with unreasonable patience why the Lucas electrical system is actually not as bad as its reputation. San Diego British Car Day brings together every marque you have heard of — Jaguar, MG, Triumph, Austin-Healey, Lotus, Rolls-Royce — and several you haven't, parked on the grass with the Coronado Bridge arcing overhead and the bay behind them. The owners are the real exhibit. They will tell you about the restoration. They will tell you about the parts they sourced from a barn in Shropshire. They will tell you about the time it rained and the wipers only worked on one side. If you care about British cars, this is a pilgrimage.
