Jennifer Lee came up through the Los Angeles beat scene, the Low End Theory era, the only woman signed to Brainfeeder in the early days. Her sets sit in an unusual place: too melodic for a techno room, too strange for a pop room, built out of hip-hop drums and washed synths and the occasional left turn into something that sounds like it is dissolving. Knowing what she came back from does change how the quiet parts land.
Costa Mesa is a long way from the Low End Theory basement, and that is sort of the point — this scene grew up and moved outward.
