San Diego Environmental Film Festival 2026 — UC San Diego
The ocean doesn't lobby. The kelp forests off La Jolla don't run ad campaigns when they collapse. And the people who spend their lives documenting what is happening to the natural world — the filmmakers who wade into wildfire zones and dive into dying reefs — rarely get a red carpet. This weekend, they do. The San Diego Environmental Film Festival returns to UCSD's Suraj Israni Center for Cinematic Arts with three days of films you will not find on any streaming platform: stories about water, land, creatures, and the people who still believe the fight is worth having. The campus kickoff on Friday features surf punk band KOCEAN at CHE Cafe. Saturday is the community gathering. Sunday night brings the red carpet showcase. The screenings are flanked by filmmaker panels, local food, and the kind of conversations that happen when a room full of people actually care about the same thing. This is not a lecture. It is the room where the people who have not given up find each other. Co-sponsored by the Suraj Israni Center for Cinematic Arts, John Muir College, and Environmental Studies at UC San Diego. November 20 through 22, 2026. UC San Diego, La Jolla.
