Dub Club presents Sister Nancy — Echoplex, Los Angeles

Somewhere around the third bass drop on a Wednesday night at the Echoplex, you stop wondering why you came out on a school night. Dub Club has been doing this since 2000 — turning a room in Echo Park into the closest thing LA has to Kingston after dark. The selectors, the sound system, the crowd that moves like they've been moving together for years. On November 26, the night before Thanksgiving, they bring Sister Nancy — the woman behind Bam Bam, one of the most sampled songs in history, the track that soundtracks every dancehall you have ever stepped into and half the hip-hop you grew up on. She is performing live with the Soul Syndicate band. That is not a DJ set. That is the original voice in a room built for exactly this kind of ceremony. The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is either spent on a couch or spent somewhere that makes you grateful you left it. Dub Club chose for you. 21 and over. Doors at 9 PM. The Echoplex, 1822 W Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles.
