Holy Wave
Psych rock from the Texas border has a different flavor than the Austin version — slower, warmer, more interested in organ and harmony than in freakout. This band spent years in El Paso before relocating, and the geography stayed in the music. Records are built out of layers that unfold rather than arrive, and the live show leans into the drift rather than tightening it up for a crowd. The high desert is arguably where this music belongs; the venue has hosted enough of this scene over the years that a whole cohort of listeners plans trips around it.
