Gaylord Pacific brings ice! to the West Coast for the first time, and the theme is A Charlie Brown Christmas. Two million pounds of hand-carved ice re-create twelve scenes from the special, kept at nine degrees. Snoopy on his doghouse. Linus and his blanket. The sad tree, floor-to-ceiling in frozen crystal. Ice slides cut through the exhibit. The resort hands out oversized parkas at the entrance, and wearing one alongside two hundred other bundled strangers is half the charm.
Outside the ice, the holiday program runs daily: Peanuts-character dining, ice tubing, a scavenger hunt, nightly entertainment, in a resort so new that most locals have never set foot inside.
