This one is in a hillside palace finished in 1914, put up by two brothers who wanted a replica of a mountain estate near Kyoto and then filled it with an Asian art collection reportedly worth millions at the time. Silk walls, a courtyard garden, a six-hundred-year-old pagoda on the grounds, and the basin laid out below you through the windows.
Putting a deep house party inside it on October 31 is a genuinely strange idea and that is the appeal. Rooms with that much wood and open air swallow the low end and push everything else forward, so the sets land warmer. Dave Aju, Heidi Lawden and Masha all work that end of house rather than the peak-time end.
