What it was like
Waiting years for a record from somebody who clearly did not owe you one builds a strange loyalty. Isaiah Rashad has released very little and disappeared for long stretches, and the reason his people are fiercely protective rather than impatient is that the music has always been openly about why: depression, substances, the specific exhaustion of being the quiet one on a label full of loud ones. Hearing it in a theater rather than a festival field matters, because the records are mumbled and warm and built low, and a field eats all of that. This is a room where the crowd finishes his lines at conversational volume rather than screaming them. If you have a friend who has been saying the same album got them through something, they already know this date exists and are waiting for someone to go with. Tuesday the 29th of September, stage time eight.
