A show ends and the group chat it created does not. For a lot of people the Tuesday-night ritual of watching, then immediately arguing about whether Lawrence deserved anything, was the actual social event - the episode was just the excuse. Ten years on, the cast and creators are taking that to a stage, which means the thing being celebrated is not really the television. It is the audience it assembled: Black women who finally saw a version of Los Angeles that looked like the one they lived in, down to the specific streets. A live anniversary show is one of the few formats where the crowd is the point and everybody in the room understands that. Go with the person you used to text during the ad breaks. The series was shot largely on location around Inglewood, View Park and Leimert, which makes staging the anniversary a few miles from those blocks a slightly pointed choice.
