Concrete floors and very high ceilings ask for a specific kind of record, and that record does not translate to headphones at all. Hard, fast, relentlessly physical, built on the assumption that the venue itself is an instrument. In a space like this it works the way it is supposed to: the kick arrives through your feet before your ears register it and the whole building becomes part of the arrangement. This is the opposite of a connoisseur's night and makes no apology for it. The crowd is large, young and there to be flattened, and the fact that it starts in the late afternoon rather than at midnight tells you it is built for endurance rather than mystery. Not subtle. Occasionally that is precisely the correct order.
