Emo rap was mocked relentlessly while it was happening and then quietly turned out to have been one of the more consequential developments of the last decade, mostly because it dissolved a border that everybody had assumed was permanent. Guitars and 808s, singing and rapping, a delivery borrowed equally from Midwest emo and Atlanta. The people who were seventeen for it are now adults with a complicated relationship to music they are not sure they are allowed to still love. A show like this resolves that question in about four minutes. The crowd arrives dressed for two different scenes and behaves as one. Go if you have ever had to explain to somebody why those records mattered and given up halfway through.
