Los Angeles Lakers vs. Golden State Warriors
The rivalry nobody planned is the one with the team up the coast, built entirely in the last fifteen years out of playoff series that neither fanbase has agreed to stop discussing. Golden State visiting on a Sunday evening in March brings a travelling support that drives down rather than flies, in numbers that make the building noticeably less one-sided than usual. Late-season meetings between these two carry seeding consequences that everybody in the room can calculate, which sharpens every possession in the fourth quarter. The half past seven tip is late for a Sunday and worth the Monday morning. This is one of the three or four fixtures a year where the building sounds like a playoff game without being one, and there is no substitute for having been in it. Buy early. This is one of the handful of regular-season fixtures where the price does not come down in the final week, because the visiting support decided months ago and has no intention of missing it.
