Seed of Light Project

The games this grew out of are about people who keep going when the going is plainly not working, which is why the fandom around them discusses therapy more than most fandoms discuss anything at all. So a room of those players raising money for NAMI is not a marketing angle bolted onto a convention. It is the subtext finally said out loud, in public, by the people who needed it. Fans built the whole day themselves: guest cosplayers, an artist alley, karaoke, trivia, a raffle, an auction, and musical numbers performed in costume. The detail that marks it as a fan project rather than a licensed one is the music — costumed performers singing Mili songs in jazz arrangements nobody commissioned, because somebody in the group chat could arrange and somebody else could sing. Every dollar raised goes to the charity. Six hours of a Saturday afternoon in East Hollywood. If you have ever tried to explain a video game to a therapist and watched them almost understand, this room got there first. People who found these games the same way keep building rooms like this, all over, around games nobody ever bothered to market.
