You already know what Plus Ultra sounds like. You've heard it through earbuds on the bus, through laptop speakers at 2 AM, through the thin walls of a dorm room where someone was rewatching the tournament arc for the fourth time. You know the swell that hits when Deku breaks through. You know the strings that play when All Might stands up one last time.
You've never heard it performed by fifteen musicians standing in a room with you.
A 15-piece live band performs Yuki Hayashi's full score alongside projected sequences from all eight seasons. The moments you've replayed a hundred times get rebuilt in front of you: the breath between notes that streaming compresses away, the physical presence of a cello section pulling the weight of a scene you already know the ending to. Knowing doesn't help. You'll feel it all over again.
This is not a screening with background music. It is the score as its own experience — the architecture underneath every scene you loved, isolated and amplified, played by people watching your face while they play.
Segerstrom Hall, Costa Mesa.
While you are lookingDifferent scene, same night out.

The sets lean. Doorways narrow to points, windows are painted straight onto flats, shadows are brushed by hand onto the walls, and a hundred and six years on it still reads less like an old film than like somebody's actual nightmare, carefully transcribed. Conrad Veidt plays the somnambulist Cesare with a stillness that has been borrowed by every horror performance since, and the picture worked out most of what we now mean by a twist ending. The German crews who built those crooked walls were partly doing so because a collapsed postwar economy could not spare real timber or real light, which is how a budget shortfall hardened into the founding grammar of the genre. Watching it silent on a laptop is a wholly different act from sitting in a dark room while a musician plays to the picture in real time, choosing tempo against an audience they can hear breathing. Beverly Blvd, October 25, two in the afternoon.

Some scores get into you sideways. You were watching for the story, and then a fiddle line came in under a scene and you found yourself grieving a place you have never been and a century you never lived in. Years later you still know it the instant it starts.
Live is where that stops being nostalgia and becomes a room. The same music, played in front of you by people breathing at the same time, in a downtown theater from an era that understood how a hall should carry sound without help. The version that exists on record is the map. This is the territory.
Doors at 7:00 PM, show at 8:00 PM, ages 16 and up, at the Fox Performing Arts Center on Mission Inn Avenue in Riverside.
There is no second chance at this particular night in this particular room. That is the only thing a live show offers that a recording never can — so take whoever you first heard it with.

Near the end of the movie, Sam stands on the observation deck of the Empire State Building and the camera holds on his face for three full seconds before Meg Ryan appears. In those three seconds, the orchestra carries everything the character cannot say. You've heard it through speakers a dozen times. You've never heard it performed by a live symphony while the film plays on a screen overlooking the San Diego bay.
The San Diego Symphony performs the complete score of Sleepless in Seattle at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park — Marc Shaiman's arrangements, the Nat King Cole needle-drops, the Jimmy Durante moment that lands harder than it has any right to. The orchestra sits between you and the screen, and the score exists in the room as a physical thing, vibrating in the air, rather than a signal compressed into a speaker. Every romantic movie you've ever watched alone on a couch prepared you for exactly this feeling, and none of them prepared you for how different it is when you can see the violinist's face.
One performance only: Friday, December 11, 2026 at 7:30 PM. The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, 1245 Seventh Ave, San Diego. Tickets via the San Diego Symphony box office.

You already know the ending. You've seen Kevin outrun the Sticky Bandits a hundred times. You've memorized the face he makes at the concierge, the Plaza Hotel lobby, the way the pigeon lady turns out to be the bravest person in the whole movie. None of that matters, because you've never heard John Williams' score performed live twenty feet from your chair while the film plays on a screen the size of a building.
The San Diego Symphony performs the complete Home Alone 2 score at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park — outdoors, under the December sky, with the bay behind you and Williams' orchestral arrangements filling the kind of open air they were always meant to fill. The brass hits different when there's no ceiling. The strings hit different when you can see the cellist's bow. The moment Kevin walks through a snowy Central Park and the full orchestra swells beneath it — that's the moment you understand why people keep coming back to this format. You already knew the movie. You didn't know the music.
This is a holiday tradition built for the person who watches Christmas movies year-round and the person dragged along by them. Both leave converted. One night only: Saturday, December 12, 2026 at 6:00 PM. The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park, 1245 Seventh Ave, San Diego.

Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…
You will be tired in a way that feels earned. Four days, a hundred thousand people, and not one of them needs you to explain what you are talking about.
The largest anime convention in North America takes the Los Angeles Convention Center over Fourth of July weekend and spills into the JW Marriott and the Ritz-Carlton beside it. Industry panels, screening rooms, autograph sessions with voice actors and composers, concerts that sell out weeks ahead. Studios from Japan use this as their main North American announcement stage — if a sequel or adaptation is being revealed, it often happens in a room you could be standing in.
The exhibit hall carries imported merchandise and collaboration exclusives that surface nowhere else on the continent.
Los Angeles Convention Center, 1201 S Figueroa St. Thursday through Sunday. Badges run from top-tier early-access down to single-day passes.
Book the connected hotel corridor months out. Everyone who tells you that learned it the hard way.

Coast Hwy & Pier View Way, Oceansi…
The Pacific is a block away.
Every Thursday evening from 5 to 9 PM, the corner of Coast Highway and Pier View Way becomes the Oceanside Sunset Market — vendors, food, live music, and the light that only happens when you're that close to the water at that hour.
The beach-town market that runs when the day is actually good. Local makers, artisans, food vendors, and the crowd that comes out because the evening earned it.
The vendor mix is Oceanside-specific: local crafts, art, jewelry, produce, and the food vendors that the beach corridor supports. The live music stage runs throughout the evening. The Oceanside Pier is visible from the market — the setting does work the vendors don't have to.
Free to attend. Parking available near the Pier. Every Thursday, May through September, 5-9 PM. Oceanside, California. The market runs through marine layer some evenings. The cooler Pacific air is part of the draw, not a reason to stay home.
