Thanksgiving week has a hole in it that nobody admits to. The meal ends early, the relatives go to bed at nine, and you are twenty-six years old standing in your childhood kitchen with a full night ahead of you and nothing to do with it. Everyone you went to high school with is also in town and also bored.
A warehouse-scale room on Pico has been solving that deliberately. Catch One has been one of the most important dance floors in Los Angeles for decades, and a Thanksgiving-week party there runs on a very specific crowd: people home for the holiday, people who never left, and regulars who treat the week as a reunion they did not have to organize. House and techno, doors at six, early enough that you can genuinely do both.
Going early is the move. The first two hours are when the room is loose and you can hear the person next to you.
November 25 at Catch One, 4067 Pico Boulevard. If someone you love is flying home that week and dreading the downtime, this is the text to send.

Catch One, 4067 West Pico Boulevar…
Somewhere around the second hour, a room full of adults in cosplay screams the opening of a show they once cried at, and nobody is embarrassed, and that is the whole product.
This is not a convention panel with a speaker in the corner. It is a full-tilt dance floor — breakdowns built off anime openings, EDM edits, bass drops, remixes, and a sea of glowsticks going up the second the right song lands. The crew has run this circuit across North America and Europe, and the San Diego night they threw sold out months ahead, which tells you what the door will look like here. Cosplay is strongly encouraged. Catch One has the rooms and the sound system to hold it.
On Pico in Los Angeles, twenty-one and over, and tickets move fast.
Send it to the friend who owns the wig and has never once had anywhere to wear it.

A room full of people in black moving on the same downbeat makes a very particular sound, and Los Angeles has been making it in one basement or another for thirty years.
DAS BUNKER is where generations of goths, rivetheads, and cybergoths found each other — the dark room that kept existing while every other scene night in this city opened and closed. For the anniversary it brings CombiChrist to Catch One: aggrotech, body music, strobes, and the communal catharsis this particular crowd knows how to generate on command.
This is less a concert than a homecoming. Thirty years of people who did not fit anywhere else, in one room, at full volume, finding out that most of them are still here.
Wear the black you save for occasions. Charge your boots. Dance until the lights come up with a family you did not know you had.

Catch One, 4067 W Pico Blvd, Los A…
The Chiikawa fandom understood something about those characters before the merch got everywhere — the anxious, striving energy of three tiny creatures trying to be brave is the same emotional register you feel walking into a club for the first time at 22. A rave built around that energy is not an anime tie-in. It is the right room.
Catch One has been the Black-owned Pico Union venue at the center of Los Angeles club culture since 1973. Holding a Chiikawa rave there on July 4 weekend means the people who knew about this before the announcement are showing up to a place that has been holding rooms like this for half a century. Kawaii aesthetics, club music, decade-deep house lineage — the convergence is intentional.
You will recognize the people there because they read the same threads as you. They cried when Chiikawa cried. They are not here to be ironic about it. The room is for the fans who carried this fandom when it was still small.
Catch One Los Angeles, July 4 weekend. Doors and lineup details on the organizer page.

Anime Expo weekend doesn't end when the convention floor closes. Sonicboombox throws the biggest AX afterparty of the year on July 4 at Catch One — and you don't need an Anime Expo badge to get in.
Five rooms. Two floors. A massive outdoor patio. DJs spinning anime-adjacent music across hip-hop, trap, pop, EDM, and emo — Anime Nightclub 3, DJ Taylor Senpai, and a full lineup that treats anime soundtracks like the bangers they are. There's also a game room with Beyblades, a photobooth with printed photos, and the kind of crowd that has the right opinion about the Chainsaw Man opening.
Presented by Girltaku, Newtown HQ, and Kaiju Jukebox — organizers who have run Anime Expo adjacent events for years and know exactly what this crowd wants on a Saturday night in July.
Catch One is one of the best venues in Los Angeles: legendary sound system, multiple rooms, and enough space that it never feels like a sweaty anime convention overflow. It's more like the after-party that's actually better than the main event.
July 4 also happens to be Independence Day. The Anime Expo crowd treats this as its own national holiday — cosplay optional, enthusiasm mandatory. Doors open at 8:30 PM and the night runs until 2 AM. 21+ only. Rideshare recommended.
Located on West Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles. This is the Anime Expo afterparty the community has been running to for years. If you're in LA for AX weekend, this is the Saturday night plan.

The convention floor closes. The night doesn’t.
Every year, Sonicboombox has turned what should be the last night of Anime Expo into something the official schedule doesn’t list — a proper nightclub night for the people who stayed too long and still aren’t done. Anime XP Afterparty 2026 returns to Catch One, a two-floor, three-stage venue on West Pico Blvd in Los Angeles. Seven bars. A full game room that takes Beyblades seriously. Outdoor patio. And six anime DJs who treat the playlist like it matters, because it does.
The lineup: Taylor Senpai, Dimi, Johnny Romer, DJ French, Beari, Foureyes. From 8:30 PM to 2:00 AM, the music runs through anime OSTs, J-pop, and electronic — whatever connects to the cultural moment that just spent four days filling the convention center. This is the exhale at the end of AX weekend.
Catch One, 4067 W Pico Blvd, Los Angeles. 21+ with valid ID. July 4, 2026. Doors at 8:30 PM. $25 in advance, $40 at the door.

The playlist is one you already know. K-Pop Club Night at Catch One is the Los Angeles night for the community that grew up on this music - DJ Chen on decks, a room that fills with people who know every chorus.
Catch One is the Pico Boulevard venue with the history to hold it: one of LA's most significant dance venues, now home to the K-pop crowd that has been looking for exactly this room. The KCN Agency runs the night.
The format is a DJ night built entirely around K-pop - current releases, classic hits, the full range from first-generation through fourth-generation acts. No mixing in with other genres. The crowd shows up dressed.
Not a K-pop themed bar night, then, but a dedicated floor run by people who care what is in the set. It happens monthly, and the regulars have started recognising each other in the line outside, which is how a room stops being an event and turns into somewhere you go.
While you are lookingDifferent scene, same night out.

DoubleTree by Hilton Mission Valle…
You did not get the prom you wanted the first time around. Almost nobody did, which is practically the defining feature of the event. So a horror convention in Mission Valley hands the night back with the lighting corrected: a proper dance, six to ten in the evening, set inside a weekend already full of practical effects artists and monster makeup and people who can talk for an hour about one creature suit. Dressing as the thing that frightened you at nine years old is not a costume in this ballroom, it is a dialect, and everyone present speaks it fluently. The crossover is what makes it work. Horror crowds and dark-alternative crowds rarely share a floor, and when they do the room takes on an unusual generosity, because nobody is the strangest person there and so nobody has to defend anything. Four hours. Comfortable shoes under the gown. The slow song still gets everybody.

Fifty years is long enough that the farewell is not a marketing device, it is arithmetic. The band that put out the first British punk single in 1976 is coming through San Diego on a tour openly titled Final Damnation, and the people in that room will be doing the arithmetic too: this is likely the last time Dave Vanian fronts a room this size in this city. Punk's first record belonged to these men and they then spent four decades refusing to stay punk, drifting into gothic, psychedelic and music-hall territory that irritated purists and produced the better half of their catalogue. The Courettes open, which is a genuinely good pairing rather than filler. Seven o'clock on a Friday at a venue downtown that holds a thousand people, which is both too small for the history and exactly the right size for the noise. Bring the teenager in your life who thinks they invented this. Let them see where it came from while it is still standing in front of them.

The hotel lobby at midnight is where the real convention happens. Someone brought a Switch, someone else brought a projector, and a group of strangers who met four hours ago are playing like they have known each other since middle school. San Diego LAN runs alongside the San Diego Anime Convention at the DoubleTree in Mission Valley, with Saturday and Sunday sessions from 11 AM to 6 PM, mixing strategy and FPS titles with a house party feel that competitive gaming lost somewhere along the way. VR stations, board games, and video games spanning every genre and generation fill the game room at a volume that makes you forget there is an anime convention happening in the next ballroom. This is not a tournament with spectators — it is a living room that happens to hold a hundred people who all brought their own controllers. DoubleTree by Hilton Mission Valley, 7450 Hazard Center Dr, San Diego. November 21–22, 2026.

Nobody warns you that leaving a faith community costs you the music too. You can walk away from the doctrine and still catch yourself, years later, missing the specific physical fact of a room full of people singing the same thing at once with their eyes shut.
Rave Jesus is the strangest possible answer to that, and it works. Hard dance production under genuinely earnest worship writing, played to a room that is half people who never left and half people who did. The all-ages door matters here in a way it does not at most shows — it means the fifteen-year-old who came with the youth group and the thirty-year-old who has not been to church in a decade are on the same floor.
Twenty dollars in advance is club-night pricing for something that behaves more like a revival. Whatever it is, it is not cynical, and that is rare enough to be worth the drive.

Various venues, Los Angeles, CA
Somewhere in this city tonight there is a back room where the pinball never stopped — machines everyone assumed died with the arcades, lined up, lit up, and played for blood by people who know each ruleset cold. You thought it was nostalgia. They kept it a sport.
Once a month the league runs a real tournament: matchplay, a new opponent and a random machine every round, points stacking across the night. It is IFPA-sanctioned, but that is not why the regulars come. A good table is the most honest machine there is. It does not care who you are, only whether you can read the ball.
Here is what outsiders never expect: this crowd wants you to get good. Show up knowing only how to keep a ball alive and someone ranked will lean over between rounds and show you where the safe nudge is, when to let it drain on purpose.
Venues rotate. Check the league's Facebook group and the IFPA calendar for this month's location. All-ages at most stops, 21+ at the bars.

Every region sends its dark horses, and most of them go home in the first week. That is what makes the opening stage the most nervous, least predictable stretch of the whole tournament.
The Play-In Stage is where teams that did not walk in with a guaranteed bracket spot have to earn one, on foreign soil, against opponents they have only ever studied on video. Nothing is safe and nobody is comfortable. Upsets that reshape the entire championship happen here, in front of a few hundred people, before the broadcast audience has fully tuned in.
Riot Games Arena is the tightest, loudest room in North American esports — small enough that crowd noise reaches the stage, close enough to watch a player's posture change when a fight goes wrong. From inside that building it is a different sport.
Riot Games Arena, 12181 Bluff Creek Dr, Playa Vista. October 15-18. Tickets through lolesports.com.
If you have only ever watched it on stream, this is the one to go to.
