Yes, you read that right: a rave for toddlers. Australian sensation Lenny Pearce takes the drops, the bass, and the glowstick euphoria of a real dance party and rebuilds it for the under-five crowd, turning nursery rhymes into techno bangers while a room full of tiny humans and their delighted, sleep-deprived parents lose their minds on a Wednesday morning. It is the most joyfully absurd family outing you will have all year, and the parents secretly have as much fun as the kids. Wednesday, October 28, 2026, The Wiltern in Los Angeles. Wear neon, bring the noise-canceling headphones for the littlest ones, and let your toddler experience their first proper drop. This is the kind of wonderfully strange, only-in-this-era event you'll be telling people about for weeks. Come rave responsibly, juice boxes included.

Some music you have only ever listened to alone. Headphones, late, usually on a night when something had gone wrong and you needed a room built by someone who understood without asking. It never occurred to you that several thousand other people were doing exactly the same thing.
Olafur Arnalds writes for piano and strings and then runs it through electronics, which on paper sounds like a compromise and in practice sounds like weather. He built a pair of self-playing pianos, driven by software he wrote, that respond to what he plays live — so the instrument answers him on stage, and no two nights resolve the same way.
The Wiltern is a 1931 art deco theatre with a painted ceiling. People go quiet in it without being asked, which is the correct and rare condition for this.
Friday, November 13. Seven p.m. 3790 Wilshire Boulevard. The private thing turns out to have been a shared one the whole time.

The first UK punk band to ever release a single went on to invent goth, psychedelia, and horror-rock all at once, then outlived every peer who burned out: half a century on, The Damned are still snarling. Dave Vanian in his vampire finery and Captain Sensible in his beret still lead one of the most gloriously theatrical live bands alive, tearing through Neat Neat Neat, Smash It Up, and Grimly Fiendish for a crowd spanning every generation of British-music obsessive. Tuesday, November 17, 2026, the Wiltern in Los Angeles. Come for the punk fury, stay for the eerie, gorgeous goth anthems that made them legends twice over. Wear black, bring the friend who owns every Damned pressing, and witness a band that has outlived and out-cooled everyone. Five decades in and still untouchable. This is punk and goth history, alive and snarling.

A band once recorded a single hour-long song about smoking weed and marching across a desert, and meant every crushing minute of it. To the doom faithful that record is not a punchline. It is scripture, and they can tell you exactly where they were the first time they made it all the way through.
What happens in the room is closer to a low-frequency religious service than a concert. Riffs slow and enormous enough to rearrange your ribcage. A wall of amps treated like an altar. Several hundred people who came specifically to worship the same tone and will not be hurried.
The only question the believers ask beforehand is whether tonight is a night they play Dopesmoker in full. Inside an art-deco room on Wilshire, the answer barely matters. The pilgrimage was always the point.
Bring the friend who thinks slow means boring. Stand near the front and let the building explain it to them.

You knew the voice before you knew the name. It was under an anime opening you replayed until it stopped being a song and became a reflex, or it arrived at 2 AM from a friend with no message attached, because the music was the message. That is how this works. It finds you sideways.
The Wiltern is the right room for it. An Art Deco house on Wilshire, small enough that a singer with real range fills every corner without out-shouting a production budget. Her catalog sits on the seam between soundtrack work and songwriting that stands entirely on its own, and live is where you find out how much of it was always hers.
On Wilshire, right at the Metro station, doors ahead of a 7 PM show.
If you have ever sent somebody a song in the middle of the night and hoped they would understand without explanation, this is that, out loud, in a room full of people who did the same thing.

Somewhere around two in the morning, a Japanese jazz playlist stops being background and becomes the only thing in the apartment. Everyone who has gone down that hole ends up in roughly the same place, and the band waiting at the bottom of it formed in 1976.
What CASIOPEA does live is almost unfair: Issei Noro's melodic runs on guitar, Akira Jimbo's rhythmic precision, and a harmonic sophistication that has kept the whole catalog sounding contemporary decades past the point it should have dated. Mint Jams remains a benchmark for what a live fusion record can even be.
They do not come here often. This one sits inside the City Pop Waves run, which has quietly become the Southern California home for Japanese music, and the Wiltern is small enough that the playing will land far closer than the recordings ever suggested.
Send it to the person who sent you the playlist. They have been waiting longer than you have.

Some scores do not belong in earbuds. They were written for a room big enough to hold a full orchestra and everybody who ever wanted to say Plus Ultra out loud without having to explain themselves.
Live, with the story unfolding and the strings arriving a half-beat before you remember what happens next, the music does what the show does to you and then keeps doing it long after. The room fills with people who quote the Symbol of Peace to each other and mean every word, which is the sort of crowd that makes an orchestral concert feel closer to a rally. All ages, and every single person needs a ticket regardless of age, which means the kids are in there too, and they are reliably the loudest.
The Wiltern on Wilshire, doors in the evening, orchestra on stage.
Take the person who made you watch it in the first place. You owe them this one.

The Wiltern, 3790 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles. May 23rd. American Football — the band whose self-titled album arrived in 1999 and spent fifteen years as the best record that nobody remembered buying and everyone remembered owning — playing the Wiltern with Mei Semones.
That album was the soundtrack of something for a specific generation, at a specific age, in a specific emotional register that doesn't have a name. The guitar tone is recognizable in three seconds. The songs feel like they were recorded in the middle of something that hadn't resolved yet, which is why they still sound exactly right for people who were in the middle of something when they heard them. Playing them live in Los Angeles, in a room of people who were all there at the same time — different cities, same feeling — is what the Wiltern does on nights like this.
Tickets at ticketmaster.com. May 23rd. The Wiltern is mid-size and the right size for this — not an arena, not a club, the specific scale where the music can be heard correctly and the room can hold the weight of it. Get your ticket before the floor closes.

The Wiltern, 3790 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles. May 31st. Elmiene — the British soul singer whose voice arrives like something from a different decade and lands fully in this one — bringing the Sounds for Someone Tour to the Wiltern, which is the venue that the Koreatown mid-size room was invented for.
Elmiene's work operates in the territory where R&B and neo-soul and something older and harder to name all converge. The voice is the thing. The production is built around the voice, which means live, in a room with the Wiltern's acoustic properties and sightlines, the Sounds for Someone material is going to do something that the recording can only point at.
Tickets at ticketmaster.com. May 31st. The Wiltern is the perfectly sized room for the artist and the audience already knows it — these shows go before the second announcement cycle. Get your ticket before the floor goes quiet and the reserved seats follow. Elmiene live is the experience the album was rehearsing for.

The Wiltern, 3790 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles. May 26th. The Paper Kites — the Australian band whose music occupies the specific register of folk and chamber pop where a song sounds like it was written for the exact feeling you're having but couldn't name — bringing their US tour to the Koreatown venue that does this kind of show exactly right.
The Wiltern is built for the music The Paper Kites make. The acoustic properties of the room, the sightlines from the mezzanine to the floor, the crowd density that makes a sold-out mid-size show feel like the intimacy of someone playing for a room they chose — all of it aligns for a band whose production is built around the space between the sounds as much as the sounds themselves.
Tickets at ticketmaster.com. May 26th. The Paper Kites live is the experience the recordings were always pointing toward. Get your ticket before the Wiltern closes — these shows sell on the strength of the community that has been quietly carrying this catalog for years. Every Friday evening from spring through fall, the BP Grand Entrance at LACMA becomes a concert hall with no roof. The musicians aren't there because the pay is exceptional — they're there because the Los Angeles County Museum of Art has been building this program since the 1960s, and the stage means something.
Jazz at LACMA draws players who tour internationally and fill the Wiltern for five hundred dollars a ticket. On Friday evenings, they're playing for whoever walked in off Wilshire Boulevard.
The doors open at 5. Music starts at 6. The crowd fills in by 6:30. You can sit on the steps, walk the grounds, or stand near the back and let it happen to you. The galleries are open behind you. The Chris Burden urban light installation gives the whole plaza a particular quality at dusk that's hard to plan around but impossible to miss when it happens.
6067 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90036. Free. No ticket, no reservation. The concert is outdoors — check weather and bring a layer for after dark. Fridays through October.

Peacock Theater, 777 Chick Hearn C…
You spent eighty hours inside that world. You heard the battle theme so many times it became the sound of your own stubbornness — the part where the strings climb and the choir enters and you refused to put the controller down because the next cutscene was the one that was going to break you.
Shoji Meguro writes like the music knows something about you that you have not said out loud yet. The tavern theme that made you pause the game and just sit there. The boss transition where the orchestra swells and your hands went cold. The quiet field track that played while you were supposed to be somewhere else, but you walked around anyway because the melody was doing something you could not name.
Now a full orchestra and choir perform that score live, and the difference between hearing it through speakers and hearing it fill a hall is the difference between remembering a place and standing in it again. The Japan premiere sold out; this is the first orchestral realization of these compositions in the United States.
The audience is the quiet part made loud — a thousand people who each spent those hours alone in a room, and were in the same room the whole time without knowing it.

DoubleTree by Hilton Mission Valle…
You did not get the prom you wanted the first time around. Almost nobody did, which is practically the defining feature of the event. So a horror convention in Mission Valley hands the night back with the lighting corrected: a proper dance, six to ten in the evening, set inside a weekend already full of practical effects artists and monster makeup and people who can talk for an hour about one creature suit. Dressing as the thing that frightened you at nine years old is not a costume in this ballroom, it is a dialect, and everyone present speaks it fluently. The crossover is what makes it work. Horror crowds and dark-alternative crowds rarely share a floor, and when they do the room takes on an unusual generosity, because nobody is the strangest person there and so nobody has to defend anything. Four hours. Comfortable shoes under the gown. The slow song still gets everybody.

Dolby Theatre, 6801 Hollywood Blvd…
You were maybe twelve, it was late, and you had gotten to the part where the music changes and the screen goes quiet, and you sat there with a controller in your hands feeling something you did not have words for yet. Thirty years later you still do not have the words. You do still have the melody.
The 30th anniversary concert that ran in Japan this January comes to Hollywood for one night, conducted by Nicholas Buc, with a full orchestra playing Yasunori Mitsuda's score the way it was always arranged in your head but never actually sounded through a console speaker. Chrono Trigger is the game people cite when they argue that the form can do what a novel does, and its soundtrack is the evidence they reach for first.
What makes the room worth it rather than the recording: you will be surrounded by several thousand people who all went quiet at the same moment in the same game, alone, decades ago, in different bedrooms. When the first notes of a particular theme land, you will hear the entire theatre react at once. That sound — the collective recognition — is not on any soundtrack.
Sunday, October 18, 8 p.m. Dolby Theatre, 6801 Hollywood Blvd. No recording of any kind permitted.

The sets lean. Doorways narrow to points, windows are painted straight onto flats, shadows are brushed by hand onto the walls, and a hundred and six years on it still reads less like an old film than like somebody's actual nightmare, carefully transcribed. Conrad Veidt plays the somnambulist Cesare with a stillness that has been borrowed by every horror performance since, and the picture worked out most of what we now mean by a twist ending. The German crews who built those crooked walls were partly doing so because a collapsed postwar economy could not spare real timber or real light, which is how a budget shortfall hardened into the founding grammar of the genre. Watching it silent on a laptop is a wholly different act from sitting in a dark room while a musician plays to the picture in real time, choosing tempo against an audience they can hear breathing. Beverly Blvd, October 25, two in the afternoon.

Todd Rundgren has been making music for 55 years, and the fact that most people only know Hello It's Me and I Saw the Light is the kind of injustice that a live show is designed to correct. Rundgren produced Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell, built one of the first home recording studios in rock history, pioneered music video before MTV existed, invented interactive media before the internet existed, and somehow still gets categorized as a soft rock artist by people who never heard A Wizard, a True Star or the Utopia records. The Damned If I Do Tour spans the full catalog — the pop hooks, the progressive experiments, the psychedelia, the production wizardry — and at The Sound's open-air setting, the 78-year-old polymath proves that invention does not retire, it just finds a new stage and a new audience to surprise. Tickets through Ticketmaster. Tuesday, October 27, at 8 PM.
