Vidiots at the Eagle Theatre, 4884…
Everyone has been on the group trip where the house was beautiful and something was wrong. Not wrong enough to say out loud on the first night - just a door that did not lock right, a host who answered too fast, a friend who got quiet in the car. You spend the weekend deciding whether you are being paranoid or polite. That is the nerve this movie puts a thumb on, and its director is going to be standing in the room afterward explaining exactly how he built it. Dave Franco made his directorial debut with a vacation-rental horror film that understood the real fear was never the stranger - it was the four people you already knew. He is bringing special guests and taking questions on 35mm-house turf where the crowd actually stays for the Q and A instead of filing out. Insider note: the Eagle Theatre seats about 270, and guest nights sell through before the week starts. One night only, Tuesday October 13, 7:30pm.

Vidiots MUBI Microcinema, 4884 Eag…
Some weeks the fantasy is not a vacation. It is a fire lookout tower, one road in, no service, nobody who needs anything from you. Then you get there and discover the quiet is not empty - it has been waiting to hand you back everything you drove up to avoid. That is the film, and the man who wrote and directed it is the guy you know as the sweetest idiot in a police precinct sitcom. Joe Lo Truglio made a psychological horror picture about isolation and it is genuinely unsettling, which is its own small shock to anyone who only knows him from sketch comedy. He will be there in person. The MUBI Microcinema is the smaller of the two rooms here - under fifty seats, which means a director talkback in there is less a panel than a conversation. That intimacy is the entire reason to pick this over a bigger screening somewhere else. Thursday, October 15 at 7:00pm, in the small room upstairs.

The Greek Theatre, 2700 N Vermont …
His voice sounds like it has been rained on. Not damaged — weathered, like the grain of something left outside long enough to stop pretending it was ever meant to be indoors. Dermot Kennedy turned busking on Grafton Street in Dublin into arena tours with a voice that sits somewhere between hymn and storm, and when he plays the Greek Theatre on a Monday in October, the open-air canyon will do what it does best: make everything sound like it matters more than it should.
The Weight of the Woods Tour follows his third album, and Kennedy brings Jonah Kagen as support — another voice built for rooms where people came to feel something and not talk about it. The Greek is the right venue for this. No roof. No walls behind the stage. Just the Griffith Park hillside going dark while a voice that started on a Dublin sidewalk fills a Los Angeles canyon.
If you know his music, you know it lives in the drive home after — the part where you do not turn on the radio because the silence still has his voice in it. If you do not know it yet, start with 'Outnumbered' and then buy the ticket. The order matters.

Vidiots at the Eagle Theatre, 4884…
There was a shelf in the video store nobody's parents walked down, and whatever was on it got passed to you by an older cousin who swore you could handle it. For a lot of people that was this one: a haunted-house picture built on a Black neighborhood's memory of what got taken from it, starring Snoop Dogg as a ghost in a full-length fur, with Pam Grier in the house. It was dismissed on arrival in 2001 and has spent the years since becoming a genuine cult object. Now the man who shot Do the Right Thing and directed Juice is bringing it back on an actual 35mm print and standing up to talk about it. Ernest R. Dickerson is one of the most important cinematographers in American film and he does not do many of these. The print is the point - the reds in this movie were designed for film and have never looked right on a stream. The print screens Wednesday, October 21 at 7:30pm.

Somewhere on earth right now one person is the furthest anyone has gotten. When they go, the title moves to a stranger, and the whole record of human time shifts one seat down without ceremony. Thinking about that too long does something to you - it makes a Thursday feel both unbearably short and strangely survivable. Sam Green builds films about exactly this kind of vertigo, and he builds them to be experienced in a room rather than alone on a laptop; his work has always treated an audience's simultaneous presence as part of the material. He will be there afterward, in conversation, somewhere under fifty seats. This is not a movie you put on. It is an hour you agree to spend with other people thinking about the arithmetic of a life, and then walking out onto Eagle Rock Boulevard slightly rearranged. Thursday, October 22 at 7:00pm, in the microcinema.

A mother and a daughter share a shack in a Manila slaughterhouse district, and the mother's much younger boyfriend moves in, and from that one sentence the whole machine of the film grinds forward with no possibility of anyone stopping it. Lino Brocka shot it in 1976 inside the actual Tondo neighbourhood, during a dictatorship that was censoring everything it could reach, and it became the first Filipino film ever shown at Cannes. What lands hardest now is not the cruelty but the heat: you can feel the corrugated roof, the queue for water, the way privacy simply does not exist as a concept. Hilda Koronel plays the daughter's turn from endurance into calculation so quietly that you miss the exact moment it happens and spend the rest of the film hunting for it. It screens Monday, October 26 at 7:30pm in Eagle Rock. Anyone with family in the Philippines should bring somebody who has only heard the stories second-hand.

Giallo and italo-disco came out of the same country in the same decade, and almost nobody thinks to put them in one room. Argento's 1975 picture is the one with the Goblin score, the murder glimpsed through a window by a man who cannot trust what he saw, and a colour palette that makes no logical sense and perfect emotional sense. A DJ spins italo before the film and again after it, so you dance, then you watch somebody get killed to what is essentially a prog-rock lullaby, then you dance again — and the second dance feels different, which is the joke and also the point. It screens in a restored Eagle Rock movie house that still runs 35mm and keeps a thirty-six seat microcinema down the hall. Doors open ninety minutes before the picture, because the first set is not a warm-up act. Horror obsessives and record collectors end up finding each other in the lobby, which is not something either scene planned on. Doors six, picture seven-thirty, Tuesday the 27th of October, at the old Eagle Theatre on Eagle Rock Blvd.

Sixty years of stage, and the voice still hits like a fist wrapped in velvet. Tom Jones has outlived every era that tried to define him—the Vegas years, the TV years, the ironic comeback, the sincere comeback—and what remains is an artist who simply refuses to stop being extraordinary. The Come Gather Round Tour brings him to the Greek Theatre on a Monday night in late October, when the canyon air is cool and the hillside seats feel like they belong to you. At 86, Jones has earned the right to sing whatever he wants, and what he wants is a mix that spans from 'It's Not Unusual' to the raw, unadorned later albums that made critics fall in love all over again. The Greek is the perfect room for it: open sky, intimate enough to hear breath between notes, and a crowd that came because they chose to, not because someone was filming. This is the show you take a parent to. This is the show where three generations sit together and none of them are pretending. Monday, October 26 at 8:00 PM at the Greek Theatre in Griffith Park. Bring someone who remembers when this voice first stopped them in their tracks.

Two sisters make a pact to die together rather than grow up separately, and then one of them gets bitten. Everybody describes this as the werewolf-as-puberty film, which is accurate and also sells it short, because the horror is not the transformation, it is watching a person you organised your whole personality around start finding you embarrassing. It came out in 2000, was barely released, and survived entirely on word of mouth and traded copies until it became the thing a certain kind of teenager hands to another certain kind of teenager. Katharine Isabelle and Emily Perkins play the sisters with a deadpan that makes the funny parts land and the sad parts land harder. Seeing it with a room that already loves it is a different experience from discovering it alone at sixteen, which is how most people here did. Wednesday, October 28 at 7:30pm in Eagle Rock. Text your sister.

You stopped listening to 'It Must Have Been Love' on purpose years ago. Not because you forgot it — because you remember it too well. The opening bars land and you are sixteen again, or twelve, or whatever age you were when the radio was the entire world and Roxette was the sound of wanting something you could not name.
Forty years after their debut album, Per Gessle brings the catalog back to the Greek Theatre — 'The Look,' 'Listen to Your Heart,' 'Joyride' — songs that sold 80 million records and soundtracked a decade of first drives and slow dances and summers that lasted forever. Taylor Dayne opens alongside Nick Lowe & Los Straitjackets, which means the night starts in the late '80s and never really leaves.
The Greek Theatre on an October Monday is something specific: the canyon cooling down, the hills going dark behind the stage, and a crowd that does not need to look up the lyrics because every word is stored in a part of the brain that nothing else can reach. You will sing. You will not plan to. That is how it works with music you grew up inside of.

Some films are frightening. This one is worse, because it is about the sensation of being present at your own life and unable to make contact with any of it. A woman walks out of a river after a car goes off a bridge, takes a job playing church organ in a town where nobody quite meets her eye, and keeps being drawn toward an abandoned lakeside pavilion. It was shot in three weeks in 1962 by a man who otherwise made industrial and educational films, on almost no money, with a cast of non-professionals, and that accidental amateurism is precisely why it works: nothing behaves the way a studio picture teaches you to expect. The organ score does most of the damage. Directors have been quietly stealing from it ever since, usually without saying so. Monday, October 5 at 7:30pm in Eagle Rock. It runs seventy-eight minutes and it follows people home.

That shelf in your apartment has never once been justifiable and you have never once considered getting rid of it. Discs you will probably never play again, some of them scratched, a few of them still shrink-wrapped, all of them heavier than the streaming library that replaced them. You keep it because a menu that can change overnight is not the same as owning a thing. This is a night for people who feel that in their chest. The room goes dark and what comes up is 35mm - actual film, actual grain, actual splices - pulled from the strangest corners of the space-movie canon and programmed by people who treat physical media as a moral position rather than a hobby. Psychedelic, funny, deeply weird, and assembled specifically to be seen alongside other people who will gasp at the same cut. A detail the regulars know: the Eagle Theatre is a restored 1929 house, and the projectionist runs it hot and loud on purpose. It runs Tuesday, October 6 at 7:30pm, in the old Eagle Theatre that Vidiots restored.

There are bands you post about and bands you send to exactly one person. This is the second kind, and everyone in that crowd will have made the same private decision to be there.
The Seoul trio never tried to be loud. They built a jazz-tinged bedroom-pop sound on the bet that intimacy scales better than volume — 'seasons,' 'bad,' songs that got passed around like letters rather than promoted — and a generation of listeners proved them right by refusing to share them widely.
The Greek is the correct room for that. Open air, soft light coming through the trees, a few thousand people going quiet on purpose, swaying instead of screaming. Comfort music made briefly communal.
If a song of theirs lives on the playlist you only ever sent to one friend, this is the show you make plans with them for. Text them before you finish reading this.

Some records only make sense when a few thousand people are moving in the same direction at once. Play 'Sungba' in headphones and you get a very good song. Play it outdoors in a bowl full of people who have been waiting for it and you get something closer to weather.
Asake got there by folding Yoruba street fuji and amapiano into Afrobeats until the result stopped being a genre and started being an instruction. Uncle Waffles opens the door wider, the Eswatini-born DJ who turned one clip into an entire movement, and the bill becomes a full night of the African dance music that has quietly taken over global pop. The Greek's open-air bowl under the trees is the right cathedral for it.

A song finds you at exactly the right age and rewires everything — your taste, your posture, the way you walk into a room. Lily Allen did that for a generation of people who needed pop music that was smart and messy and honest all at once. She is back at the Greek Theatre, and the room is right for it.
Lily Allen Performs West End Girl is a full evening built around the songs that made her and the ones she has been making since. The Greek Theatre in Griffith Park is an outdoor amphitheater where the LA sky becomes part of the show — warm September air, eucalyptus, and 5,900 seats that feel like 500. The Greek has been hosting artists since 1930 and the acoustics are built into the hillside itself. She takes the stage at 8pm.

In Eagle Rock, the video store never died; it grew a marquee. Maggie Mackay gave Los Angeles a room where the movie theater and the video store are finally the same thing — the kind of place where the people who built the shelves in the 1990s could be the people programming the screen now. So Vidiots operates the Eagle Theatre in Eagle Rock, a nearly century-old movie house with a 271-seat auditorium that runs 35mm and 16mm and digital. The In the Eagle series is the weekly repertory programming — classics, hard-to-find features, new indie releases, the rare screening you would have driven to a different city for ten years ago. Programming rotates Wednesday through Sunday. Tickets twelve to fifteen dollars. Concessions include real popcorn. The MUBI Microcinema next door holds thirty-six for smaller screenings. Eagle Rock Boulevard. The crowd is LA cinephiles and the neighbors who walked over.

YouTube Theater, 1011 Stadium Dr, …
A show ends and the group chat it created does not. For a lot of people the Tuesday-night ritual of watching, then immediately arguing about whether Lawrence deserved anything, was the actual social event - the episode was just the excuse. Ten years on, the cast and creators are taking that to a stage, which means the thing being celebrated is not really the television. It is the audience it assembled: Black women who finally saw a version of Los Angeles that looked like the one they lived in, down to the specific streets. A live anniversary show is one of the few formats where the crowd is the point and everybody in the room understands that. Go with the person you used to text during the ad breaks. The series was shot largely on location around Inglewood, View Park and Leimert, which makes staging the anniversary a few miles from those blocks a slightly pointed choice. Curtain at eight on Thursday the 8th of October.

Endurance is a love language for some people. Not the gym kind - the kind where you sit in the same seat for twelve hours because leaving would mean you were not really in it. Orange County's only nonprofit theater has been running this particular act of devotion for nine years now, and the deal is simple and slightly insane: the first film goes up in the late afternoon and the last one lets out at four in the morning, and the lineup stays classified until the frame hits the screen. You do not get to pick. You find out with everyone else, in the dark, at two in the morning, when a title card appears and half the room loses its mind because somebody recognizes it. That shared blind trust is the whole event. The regulars know the geography of it: the upper tiers get in early to claim seats and there is pizza at dinnertime, which by hour six stops being a perk and starts being medical. Sunday, October 18, doors 3:30pm, first film 4pm, at 305 E 4th St, Santa Ana. Thirty dollars general.

If you have ever stayed up past one in the morning because the host said something about a film you had never heard of and now you had to see it, you already belong to this. The two people who do that to you on Turner Classic Movies will be in a bookstore in Los Feliz, in a room with about forty chairs, talking about the place where old Hollywood meets actual murder - the real crimes the studios buried, and the pictures that kept circling them anyway. Malone wrote the book; Mankiewicz sits across from her, and anyone who has heard the two of them together knows it turns into argument quickly and affectionately. This is the crossover night: the classic-film people who can date a print by its title cards, sitting next to the true-crime people who know the Bugsy Siegel address by heart, discovering they have been the same audience all along. The store keeps a surprisingly deep film-criticism section a few feet from where they will be sitting. Go look at it before it starts. Free, RSVP, Tuesday evening.

Somewhere in this city tonight there is a back room where the pinball never stopped — machines everyone assumed died with the arcades, lined up, lit up, and played for blood by people who know each ruleset cold. You thought it was nostalgia. They kept it a sport.
Once a month the league runs a real tournament: matchplay, a new opponent and a random machine every round, points stacking across the night. It is IFPA-sanctioned, but that is not why the regulars come. A good table is the most honest machine there is. It does not care who you are, only whether you can read the ball.
Here is what outsiders never expect: this crowd wants you to get good. Show up knowing only how to keep a ball alive and someone ranked will lean over between rounds and show you where the safe nudge is, when to let it drain on purpose.
Venues rotate. Check the league's Facebook group and the IFPA calendar for this month's location. All-ages at most stops, 21+ at the bars.

Every region sends its dark horses, and most of them go home in the first week. That is what makes the opening stage the most nervous, least predictable stretch of the whole tournament.
The Play-In Stage is where teams that did not walk in with a guaranteed bracket spot have to earn one, on foreign soil, against opponents they have only ever studied on video. Nothing is safe and nobody is comfortable. Upsets that reshape the entire championship happen here, in front of a few hundred people, before the broadcast audience has fully tuned in.
Riot Games Arena is the tightest, loudest room in North American esports — small enough that crowd noise reaches the stage, close enough to watch a player's posture change when a fight goes wrong. From inside that building it is a different sport.
