L.A. Guns
Dec 31, 2026 Whisky a Go Go, 8901 W Sunset Blvd…

New Year's Eve in this city is mostly a tax. Somebody's cousin knows a promoter, the ticket runs ninety dollars, the champagne is a thimble of something sweet, and at 12:04 you are standing among strangers wondering why you left the house at all. There is another version of the night. A band named after the city plays the club that built the city's reputation, the bill runs six acts deep, and nobody in the room is performing having a good time for anyone's camera. Phil Lewis has been doing this since the Strip was still genuinely dangerous. Urick, Taz Taylor Band, Nasty Passion, Philthy Rych, Evil Blade and Fire 'N Ice fill out the card. The thing to understand about a stacked bill here is that it starts early and runs long, so the opener you have never heard of is very often the set people end up talking about on the sidewalk. Six o'clock on the 31st, at an address that has not moved since 1964.

Dokken
Dec 26, 2026 Whisky a Go Go, 8901 W Sunset Blvd…

December 26th is the flattest day on the calendar. The build-up is spent, the wrapping paper is bagged, somebody's relative is still on the couch, and the restlessness that arrives around four in the afternoon has no obvious cure. Driving to Sunset for a guitar solo is a cure. Don Dokken and company open a six-night stretch where this club gives each evening to a different band that mattered back when Los Angeles rock was the biggest thing the city exported. This is the loudest, best-attended night of the run and the one where the balcony actually fills up. A detail that changes how you plan the evening: the stairs to the balcony are narrow and the good rail spots along the front go inside the first twenty minutes after doors, so the people who care about sightlines arrive early and eat afterward instead. Saturday the 26th, and the doors go at 7:30 rather than the usual six.

Enuff Z'Nuff, Pretty Boy Floyd, The Throbs
Dec 28, 2026 $33+ Whisky a Go Go, 8901 W Sunset Blvd…

The week between Christmas and New Year's has no shape to it. Work is theoretical, the leftovers are on their fourth appearance, and somewhere in a closet there is a shoebox of ticket stubs from when you were seventeen and the Sunset Strip was the center of the known world. Nobody in your house wants to hear about it again. Here is a room full of people who want to hear about nothing else. Three bands who were actually on that Strip when it meant something, stacked on one bill on a Monday night, in the club where most of it happened. Enuff Z'Nuff still play the Chicago power-pop that got them filed under hairspray for thirty-five years. Pretty Boy Floyd have never once apologized. The Throbs open. What the regulars know: the floor here is small enough that the stage monitors bleed straight into the crowd, so you end up hearing the show roughly the way the singer hears it. Doors swing at six on Monday the 28th; the room is upstairs off the Strip.

White Lion
Dec 29, 2026 $44+ Whisky a Go Go, 8901 W Sunset Blvd…

A song you have not chosen to hear in twenty years comes on over a grocery store PA and your whole chest goes sideways. You were maybe twelve when 'When the Children Cry' first got to you. You did not have language yet for what a song could do to a person, and then suddenly you did, and it was that one. Mike Tramp still sings it, still in the same key, which is the quietly astonishing fact underneath this whole evening. This is night four of a six-night run where the Whisky hands each date to a different band that mattered in the eighties, and Tuesday belongs to White Lion. Expect the ballads to land harder than the singles. A thing regulars count on here: the between-song talk runs long and gets genuinely personal, because the room is small enough that it feels less like a concert and more like being told something. Tuesday the 29th. Tickets open around $44 and the doors go at six.

Faster Pussycat with Nasty Passion
Dec 30, 2026 $55+ Whisky a Go Go, 8901 W Sunset Blvd…

Some of us were the kid who wore too much eyeliner to a high school that had strong opinions about it. You got called things in the hallway. You kept doing it anyway, because the alternative was dressing like the people doing the calling. That kid never entirely leaves, and once every few years the kid needs somewhere to go. Taime Downe has fronted this band since 1985 and has never softened the sleaze even slightly, which by now reads less like a gimmick and more like a moral position. Nasty Passion open. It falls late in the club's December stretch, on a Wednesday, so the crowd skews toward people who genuinely care rather than people passing through. Worth knowing before you go: the merch table sits at the bottom of the stairs and these bands tend to work it themselves after the set, which is how most of the good stories from these nights start. A six o'clock start on the 30th, and tickets sit around $55.

Julien-K & Nite, Vanta After Dark, Drugforjoy, Karma Hitlist, Astrodice
Oct 6, 2026 Whisky A Go Go, 8901 Sunset Blvd, …

Somewhere in a box you still have the disc. You were maybe eleven, the game had a soundtrack far too emotional for anything happening on the screen, and for years you assumed you were the only person who felt strongly about it. You were not. Julien-K wrote a chunk of that music. The band came out of Orgy and then spent years scoring Sonic games and Transformers films, which splits their audience cleanly down the middle — half followed them off nu-metal radio, half found them through a game menu screen at age eleven. Both halves show up. The Whisky stacks five bands on this bill, which is the old Sunset Strip arithmetic: you buy the ticket for one of them and spend the drive home arguing about a different one. A Tuesday on the Strip is its own specific animal. Thin crowd, no tourists, everybody in the room chose to be there. Sunset Strip, doors at six, Tuesday the sixth — five bands deep.

While you are looking Different scene, same night out.

Elefante
In 3 days · Oct 10 Peacock Theater, 777 Chick Hearn C…

Every country has the band that scored everybody's first heartbreak, and for a huge number of people in this city that band sang in Spanish and had a piano intro you would recognise in two notes. Mexican rock from the late nineties and early two-thousands occupies a strange position here: enormous to the people it belongs to, close to invisible in English-language music writing, which means a show like this never shows up in the listings you read. Elefante are one of the acts that carried that sound, and the reason to see them seated in a theater rather than at a festival is that these are songs people sing rather than dance to - the room becomes a choir about a third of the way in. Bring the sibling who still has the CD. They came out of Mexico City in the late nineties and their run of ballads is the part the room will carry without help from the stage. Saturday the 10th, doors before an eight o'clock start.

KLUB TERMINAL - ANNIVERSARY XXII / Dawn of Ashes
In 9 days · Oct 16 – Oct 17 La Santa, 220 E 3rd St, Santa Ana,…

Twenty-two years is longer than most marriages and considerably longer than most club nights. Whatever else is true about this scene, it does not churn — the people who found it at nineteen are still turning up at forty-one, wearing roughly the same thing. Klub Terminal has been running in Orange County for over two decades, which in a county better known for beach towns and master-planned suburbs is a genuinely improbable fact. The anniversary brings Dawn of Ashes, who sit at the extreme end of this world — black metal theatrics welded to industrial machinery, corpse paint, the full apparatus. The regular crowd skews toward people who have been dressing this way since before the internet made it easy to find the clothes. Santa Ana on a Friday, nine at night. Dress code is not enforced but it is very much observed.

Gary Clark Jr. at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay — Night 1
Oct 27, 2026 2241 Shelter Island Dr, San Diego,…

Gary Clark Jr. plays guitar the way a thunderstorm rolls across a Texas plain — slow at first, building, inevitable, and by the time it fully arrives you have forgotten that you were ever dry. The two-night stand at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay puts one of the most important guitarists of his generation in a room that was designed for exactly this: close quarters, harbor acoustics, and a crowd that came to listen, not to be seen. The phone-free Yondr pouch policy means the room is full of people watching instead of filming, which is the only way to experience a performer whose gift is making you forget anything exists outside the notes. General Admission, standing room only. Humphreys is a cashless venue, and the marina setting on Shelter Island makes the walk in feel like part of the show. Monday, October 27. Doors at 6:30 PM, show at 7:30 PM.

Gary Clark Jr. at Humphreys Concerts by the Bay — Night 2
Oct 28, 2026 2241 Shelter Island Dr, San Diego,…

The second night of Gary Clark Jr. at Humphreys is what happens when a guitarist who already knows the room comes back with the muscle memory of the first show and the freedom to stretch. Clark's setlists shift between nights — more blues deep cuts on one, more of the Grammy-winning rock anthems on the other — and the standing-room-only format means the crowd is close enough to hear the amplifier hum between songs. Night two of a residency is historically where the magic happens, because the performer is no longer introducing themselves to the venue. They are just playing, leaning into the moments that surprised them on night one and building new ones that the crowd on Monday did not get. The Shelter Island marina reflects the stage lights, and the October air on the harbor carries the bass notes into Point Loma. Tuesday, October 28. Doors at 6:30 PM, show at 7:30 PM.

Mdou Moctar | Fully Seated
Oct 28, 2026 Ventura Music Hall, 1888 E Thompso…

The guitar solo fell out of fashion in America roughly the same decade it became the central instrument of a music scene in the Sahara, played on gear rigged to run off whatever power was available and traded between phones on memory cards rather than sold. Moctar came up in that circuit, in Tuareg, and the band he tours with plays fast enough that people who came expecting something meditative spend the night recalibrating. Comparisons to Hendrix get made constantly and are not really wrong, though they undersell how much of this is a rhythm section doing something unfamiliar underneath. This particular date is seated, which changes the experience — it puts the attention on the playing rather than the room, and for this band that is arguably the better version. Music at 8:00 PM in Ventura on East Thompson Boulevard. Anybody who has followed the West African guitar circuit for a while will tell you these tours are rare and the recordings do not prepare you.

Lights All Night 2026 — New Year's Eve EDM Festival, Dallas, TX
Dec 30 – Dec 31, 2026 Fair Park, 3809 Grand Ave, Dallas,…

What it is: Texas' longest-running EDM festival transforms Fair Park in Dallas into a New Year's Eve celebration that makes midnight feel like the beginning of something, not the end. Lights All Night returns December 30–31, 2026 for a two-night, multi-stage takeover headlined by Tiësto, Chris Lake, Subtronics, Gryffin, I Hate Models, ARMNHMR, and ATLiens — spanning house, techno, bass, dubstep, and drum and bass across multiple stages and six football fields of production. The experience: This is the festival that proved EDM belongs in winter. The cold air sharpens every sense. The bass hits your chest before you hear the drop. Confetti cannons fire at midnight. The year changes mid-song and nobody stops dancing because the beat doesn't stop either. Every December, the electronic music community in the South converges here because nowhere else does NYE like this — it's not a party with music, it's a festival that happens to contain midnight. Worth it? If you're the person who counts down with a DJ instead of a champagne glass, this is the only New Year's Eve that makes sense. If you've ever spent January 1st in silence because the night before was too loud to follow, you already understand what this festival sells. Two nights. 18+. Tickets from $286. What to know before you go: Fair Park is outdoors — Dallas in December is cold but manageable. Dress in layers you don't mind losing. The water stations save lives. The sound bleed between stages is minimal, which means you can hop from house to dubstep without the transitions being painful. The cultural moment: Lights All Night is the longest-running EDM festival in Texas, and its placement on NYE makes it more than a music event — it is a ritual. The people who go every year treat it like a pilgrimage. The people who go once understand why. In a country full of New Year's options — rooftop champagne, house parties, watching the ball drop on a screen — LAN offers the version where midnight happens inside a bass drop and 15,000 strangers become the same organism for exactly one second. That collective exhale at 12:00:01 is the product. The music is how you get there.
