D&D Adventurers League — Game Empire SD
Oct 15, 2026 7052 Miramar Rd, San Diego, CA 921…

The belief behind D&D Adventurers League is that you should not need a standing group, a three-month campaign commitment, or six people with matching schedules to play Dungeons and Dragons. Organized play fixes that: you show up, you play, you leave with a complete story. Same time next week if you want it. Or not. The table runs either way. Game Empire SD hosts a weekly Adventurers League session every Thursday in Miramar. Drop-in format -- bring a character or use a provided sheet. The module is self-contained within the session, which means new players can join without missing anything from previous weeks. DMs are part of the AL infrastructure, not your friends doing you a favor. The crowd at a weekly AL session is not the home-campaign crowd. It is people who want the game without the overhead. Experienced players who moved to a new city. New players who do not know where to start. People who loved D and D once and fell out of a campaign years ago. The open table is where all of them end up. Rules questions welcome. Dice provided. All official AL character classes and races allowed. Walk in, walk out with a story. Address: 7052 Miramar Rd, San Diego, CA 92121. Every Thursday evening. Check Game Empire SD on social or at gameempire.com for the current module and exact start time.

MCAS Miramar Air Show 2026 — San Diego
Oct 16, 2026 Free MCAS Miramar, 10195 Mesa Rim Rd, S…

The Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Air Show is among the largest air shows in the world — typically drawing over 700,000 visitors across a weekend in October. The Blue Angels close the weekend. What happens before them is eight hours of military aircraft demonstrations, aerial acrobatics, and formations that serve as practical evidence that physics has specific limits, and humans keep finding ways around them. The MCAS Miramar gate opens to the public free of charge for the air show weekend. No ticket is required for general admission. The food is fairgrounds-style. The parking situation requires planning. The experience rewards arriving early and staying late. The crowd is a cross-section of San Diego that rarely occupies the same space: military families, aviation enthusiasts, children seeing a fighter jet pass below a thousand feet for the first time, and adults who went as children and never got over it. MCAS Miramar, San Diego, CA 92145. Free general admission. Annual October weekend. Exact dates posted each year at airshowsandiego.com.

Dizzy's Jazz — October 16
Oct 16 – Oct 17, 2026 Dizzy's Jazz Club, 1717 Morena Blv…

Dizzy's is San Diego's essential small-room jazz venue — a listening room run by musicians for musicians and their audiences, operating out of a community arts space in Bay Park. Dizzy's books the working jazz community: local artists, touring musicians who want a real room, and the occasional special event that brings the entire scene together. This is not a slick jazz supper club with dinner service and a dress code. Dizzy's is a music room where the listening is serious and the drinks are secondary to the performance. The audience comes because they love jazz, which makes the room different from a bar that happens to book jazz occasionally. The performers play differently when the audience is really listening. Shows at Dizzy's are irregular — they book specific performances rather than running a weekly format — which means each show is its own event rather than an episode in a series. The capacity is small, the sight lines are good, and the acoustics are appropriate for the music. Tickets are modest and available in advance at dizzysjazz.com. Dizzy's Jazz Club, 1717 Morena Blvd, San Diego, CA 92110. Bay Park neighborhood, inside Arias Hall behind the Musicians' Association building. Show times and ticket prices vary by event. Check dizzysjazz.com for the current schedule. Street parking on Morena Blvd. The venue is a listening room — arrive on time, phones down during performance.

Scream Diego 2026 — Halloween & Horror Convention
Oct 17, 2026 DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel San Die…

DoubleTree Mission Valley, October 17-18, 2026. Scream Diego is the convention that gives San Diego's horror community its own weekend — a dedicated event built around the genre that deserves more than a panel at a general-purpose convention. The floor runs across both days with the vendors, artists, and guests who came specifically because this is a horror event and they wanted to be in a horror room. The celebrity guests are from the films, not from adjacent franchises. The artist alley carries original horror art, prop replicas, and merchandise that doesn't appear at mainstream conventions. The community that fills Scream Diego is specific — these are the people who pre-order special editions, who know the director's filmography, who have opinions about the best practical effect in the last decade. Two days. October, which means the whole city is in the season that makes this event make the most sense. The DoubleTree Mission Valley handles conventions at this scale cleanly — real function rooms, real space for the floor. Tickets on Eventbrite. If you take horror seriously, this is the weekend that belongs to you.

Little Italy Festa 2026 San Diego
Oct 17 – Oct 18, 2026 Free admission India Street & Fir Street, San Die…

The Little Italy Festa is San Diego's largest annual street festival and one of the most authentic Italian-American celebrations on the West Coast. Held every October in San Diego's Little Italy neighborhood, the Festa fills India Street and the surrounding blocks with cooking demonstrations, bocce ball tournaments, live Italian folk music, traditional dance performances, and an extraordinary spread of food - from handmade pasta to cannoli to imported cheeses. The festival is organized by the Little Italy Association and draws over 100,000 visitors across the weekend. The neighborhood is one of San Diego's most walkable districts - bounded by the waterfront, lined with bistros and gelato shops. The Festa features the Gesso Italiano, where local artists create chalk art murals on the streets. The cooking competition and wine garden are peak-hour attractions. Neighborhood restaurants offer festival specials throughout. Little Italy Festa 2026 runs in mid-October along India Street and Fir Street, San Diego. The event is free to attend. Parking is limited - the Little Italy trolley stop on the Green Line provides easy access.

Oct 17, 2026 German American Heritage Center, 1…

German American Heritage Center, 1850 Heritage Park Row, San Diego. October 17th. The German American Societies Oktoberfest in Old Town San Diego — the version of the festival that the German American community runs for itself and opens to the city, with the food, the beer, and the music that don't require theming because they're the real thing. The German American Heritage Center is a genuine cultural institution — not an event venue, a place that exists to maintain a community's connection to its history. The Oktoberfest it hosts is the community gathering version: the recipes are family recipes, the music is performed by people who play it because it belongs to them, and the biergarten atmosphere reflects an actual tradition rather than a version of one constructed for tourism. gas-sd.org for ticket details and the event schedule. October 17th in Old Town. The setting — Heritage Park, surrounded by Victorian architecture and the Old Town district — gives the event a specific San Diego character that other cities' Oktoberfests don't have. Come for the schnitzel and the pretzels and the music. Stay for the beer and the conversation with people who have been doing this for years longer than you've been attending.

Waterfront Park, 1600 Pacific Hwy, San Diego. October 17th. Free. The San Diego Night Market Fall Edition at Waterfront Park — the evening market that comes back in October with the cooler air and the vendor rows and the street food and the waterfront setting that makes the Night Market worth scheduling your month around. The fall Night Market runs differently than the summer version. October air at Waterfront Park has the quality that makes being outside in San Diego in autumn the thing people mean when they say San Diego has great weather — warm enough to be comfortable, cool enough to walk without sweating, the bay reflecting the city lights by the time you've been there an hour. Free entry. October 17th. sdnightmarket.com for the vendor lineup. Bring cash if you have it — not every vendor takes cards. Arrive before 7 to find a spot at the waterfront tables. The Night Market works on foot traffic and conversation — you don't need a plan to have a good night here, just a direction to walk and a sense of what you feel like eating. October at the waterfront is when San Diego shows you why people move here.

Adams Avenue Unplugged 2026 — Normal Heights, San Diego
Oct 24, 2026 Free Adams Ave, Normal Heights, San Die…

Adams Avenue Unplugged started in 1995 as a weekend of live music spread across bars, coffee shops, and outdoor stages along Adams Avenue in Normal Heights. What it became is one of San Diego's most consistent community music events — not because of a foundation or a major sponsor, but because Adams Avenue is exactly the kind of street that sustains this kind of thing. The format is a dispersed music festival: dozens of stages across several blocks, acoustic sets in venues that hold forty people, full bands on outdoor platforms, and the kind of programming that comes from venues booking artists they actually know. You can walk from one stage to the next all afternoon and into the evening without missing a note. The programming reflects the neighborhood: roots, country, blues, jazz, singer-songwriter. The feel is about as un-corporate as a festival gets, which is why it has survived for thirty years on a residential commercial strip in Normal Heights. Adams Ave, Normal Heights, San Diego, CA 92116. Free to attend. Annual late October weekend. Check adamsavenueassociation.com.

Anime SD: Halloween Costume Meetup
Oct 24, 2026 Free Quartyard, 1301 Market St, San Die…

Quartyard, 1301 Market St, San Diego. October 24th. Free. The Anime SD Halloween Costume Meetup lands on the Saturday before Halloween, which makes it the night when the costume is at full intensity — planned for months, constructed with intention, worn in a venue full of people who chose to be there in exactly the same spirit. Quartyard is the right setting for this. The outdoor venue in East Village gives the costumes room and the San Diego October night gives them context — the air is finally cool, the venue lights create the right atmosphere, and the crowd that fills a Halloween cosplay meetup is the crowd that came to see the builds, not just to be seen. The Anime SD community brings genuine effort to these gatherings: the costumes are specific, the references are dense, and the conversation about who chose what character and why runs all night. Free to attend. October 24th. meetup.com/anime-watch-san-diego for the event details. Come in the costume you've been building since September. Come in the costume you assembled the night before. Both are valid here. The Saturday before Halloween at an outdoor venue in San Diego, full of people in anime costumes — this is the version of October that doesn't exist anywhere else in the city.

San Diego FC vs Seattle Sounders at Snapdragon Stadium
Oct 24, 2026 9449 Friars Rd, San Diego, CA 92108

On October 24, Snapdragon Stadium hosts San Diego FC against the Seattle Sounders — a Western Conference fixture between the league's most decorated club and the region's most ambitious new one. The Sounders have won MLS Cup multiple times, appeared in the CONCACAF Champions League, and built an institutional culture that makes them one of the standard-bearers of American professional soccer. San Diego FC are building their answer to that standard. By late October, the regular season is effectively over and only final positions remain. Playing the Sounders at home in this moment is the kind of match that tells a club something true about itself — how it handles a capable opponent under pressure, with the season's final chapter being written. Snapdragon in October at night is Mission Valley at its best: the marine layer gone, the temperature perfect, the bowl lit up and full of a crowd that knows exactly what is at stake. This is San Diego FC football in the month that defines the year.

So-Cal Cosplay Shoot — Halloween Special
Oct 25, 2026 Free Balboa Park, San Diego, CA 92101

So-Cal Cosplay Scene holds their Halloween edition community photoshoot at Balboa Park on October 25, 2026 — any fandom, any character, free to attend, in the most photogenic park in San Diego on the weekend before Halloween. Balboa Park in late October is a different experience than summer: the light is lower and warmer, the air has finally cooled, and the Spanish Colonial Revival architecture reads more atmospheric. A horror costume against the Museum of Man facade looks like a production still from something that cost millions. A villain build catches the afternoon light in the fountain plaza in ways genuinely difficult to replicate anywhere else. The park does the work. So-Cal Cosplay Scene runs this as an open call — no entry requirements, no costume quality threshold, no hierarchy. Halloween-themed costumes are expected but not required. Any fandom, any build. Photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to bring their gear. Morning hours give the best light before the park fills. Follow @socosplayscene on Instagram for the exact meet point and start time. Come in costume. Come with your camera. Come alone and you won't stay alone.

Oct 25, 2026 9449 Friars Rd, San Diego, CA 92108

October 25 brings San Diego Wave FC back to Snapdragon Stadium for a late-season NWSL match — potentially the final home game of the regular season. The Wave faithful on a late October Sunday at Snapdragon arrive with the accumulated investment of a full season behind them: the early-May matches, the summer stretch, the September push, and now this — the last opportunity to see the club on home soil before the postseason begins. The last home match of the regular season at Snapdragon is always the crowd's chance to send the team into the bracket with the knowledge that 35,000 people in Mission Valley believe in what they are building.
