Fiestas Patrias — Downtown Santa Ana
Sep 12, 2026 Main St & Civic Center Dr, Santa A…

Once every September, ten thousand separate people become a single voice. A man on a stage shouts the words Miguel Hidalgo shouted in 1810, the answer comes back off the buildings — ¡Viva México! — and you feel it in your chest whether or not it is your history. Downtown Santa Ana is the right ground for it, the center of Latino Orange County, hosting the largest Fiestas Patrias in the region for more than four decades. El Grito goes up Saturday night on the main stage, and around it sprawls everything the holiday should be: folklórico, banda, mariachi, carnival rides, street food that smells like a hundred family kitchens at once. Sunday the parade comes down Main Street. This is not a themed weekend. It is a community throwing itself its own birthday party, at Main and Civic Center. For the families here it is simply the weekend everybody comes home for. Go be somebody who came home.

9th Annual Craft Beer LB Fest
Sep 12, 2026 Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site,…

The beer scene here has never tried to be San Diego's, and that stubbornness is exactly the point — small, local, poured by people who will remember your name the second time. Once a year the whole thing gathers on the grounds of an adobe rancho built in 1844, which turns a beer festival into something closer to a garden party held in somebody's very old backyard. Fifteen tastings, a souvenir glass, gardens and thick white walls, and no pretense that this is a national event with local participation. It is the only festival built specifically around this city's own breweries, and it is family friendly in the genuine sense rather than the marketing sense. The LBC people who drink local on purpose will already be there when you arrive. Come taste a whole neighborhood in one afternoon, and bring whoever first taught you that beer could be interesting.

Taste of Gaslamp 2026 — San Diego
Sep 12, 2026 401 G St., San Diego, CA 92101

Six hundred restaurants down there and you have been to the same four for three years. It is not entirely your fault — from the sidewalk every menu blurs into the next, and the hostess stand is always doing that thing where it pretends not to see you. This breaks the pattern by force. Sixteen blocks of downtown turn into a self-guided route, and twenty-odd kitchens put out the one dish each chef actually wants you to try. Not a sample. Not a scrap. The thing they would want their mother to judge them on. You walk it at whatever pace suits you, and the only real rule is that you cannot go back to the same place twice, which everybody breaks. General admission covers the doors; the upgrade adds exclusive bites and drinks. The after-party moves it to a rooftop with a DJ and the whole skyline. Go with the person you always end up at the same four places with. Ruin the routine together.

A tasting room teaches you about one winery. A field in Burbank full of strangers who all want to argue about Grenache teaches you about a whole state. Twenty-one years in, this has settled into something no tasting room can copy: sunshine, live music all afternoon, food trucks along the perimeter, and the particular freedom of a day where the only decision is whether to try the next pour or go back for another taco. General admission covers unlimited tastings across California and international wines, plus craft brews, ciders, and kombucha, and you keep the glass. The VIP tier is capped per day and opens a garden of boutique wineries — the small producers who never reach a shelf you have seen — with real seating and an earlier start. Twenty-one and over, free parking, no downtown traffic. If you have spent a year saying you should go to more wine things, this is the one that costs a Saturday and changes what you order for a decade.

HOTPIT Autofest Round 3 — Drifting & Car Show at Orange Show Speedway
Sep 12, 2026 Orange Show Speedway, 689 S E St, …

Tire smoke hasn't cleared from the last corner when the next car is already sideways into the entry. That's the rhythm at HOTPIT Autofest — Southern California's motorsport festival where the drifting is competitive, the car show is curated, and the crowd knows the difference between a tandem run and a solo. Round 3 of the 2026 season lands September 12 at Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino. The format stacks drifting competition alongside a VIP auto showcase, dance battles, RC racing, live DJs, models, vendors, and food — a full-spectrum car culture event that treats motorsport as lifestyle, not just sport. Gates open at the Orange Show Speedway, 689 S. E Street, San Bernardino, CA 92408. Tickets at hotpitautofest.com. This is the event you send to the friend who has a drift car in their garage and a helmet in their trunk. They already know about it. They're already going. But they want you to see it.

Old World Oktoberfest 2026 — Huntington Beach
Sep 12, 2026 ✨ New Old World Village, 7561 Center Ave…

You don't have to go to Munich. You just have to go to Huntington Beach and pretend the parking lot is the Alps. Old World Village has been running Oktoberfest for long enough that the regulars have a table. The Festival Hall fills Wednesday through Sunday from September through November with steins of German lager, pretzels the size of your head, bratwurst that snaps when you bite it, and a rotating cast of oomPah bands and Bavarian folk dancers who treat every song like the crowd has been waiting for it all year. Because some of them have. The architecture helps — Old World Village is a half-timbered German-style compound in the middle of Orange County that was specifically built to feel like somewhere else. Inside the Festival Hall, the long communal tables encourage the thing that makes Oktoberfest work: strangers who arrived separately and leave as a group. September 12 through November 8, 2026. Wednesday–Sunday. 7561 Center Ave, Huntington Beach, CA 92647. Priority Pass and table reservations at oldworldhb.com.

The artist alley table has prints of your exact comfort character. The vendor next to it is selling enamel pins you didn't know existed but now can't leave without. This isn't a mall event — it's a gathering. Anime Night Mart takes over Moreno Valley Mall for two days of vendor booths, cosplay meetups, gaming stations, live performances, and raffles — all free, all ages. This is the Inland Empire's own anime night market, built for the crowd that knows their way around a convention floor but doesn't need one to have a good time. The vendors bring fan art, plushies, wall scrolls, and treasures from corners of fandom you forgot you loved. The cosplay corner fills with people who spent weeks building something they'll wear for six hours and cherish every second of it. The energy is warm and nerdy and specific. You'll recognize people by their shirts before you know their names. You'll leave with a bag full of things you'll never explain to anyone who wasn't there — and that's exactly how it's supposed to work. September 12-13, 2026. Moreno Valley Mall. Free admission. All ages.

Sep 12, 2026 128 S Palm Canyon Dr, Palm Springs…

There's a kind of funny that makes you laugh because it's clever, and there's a kind that makes you laugh because someone just said the thing you've been thinking for three years and were too polite to say out loud. Whitney Cummings has built a career on the second kind. The Big Baby Tour rolls into the Plaza Theatre in Palm Springs on Saturday, September 12, 2026, and if you've watched her specials you already know the room is going to feel like a group therapy session that got way too honest way too fast. Cummings writes about relationships, technology, and the specific hell of being a person in this decade with a precision that leaves bruises. The Plaza Theatre is a restored 1936 Art Deco jewel on Palm Canyon Drive — intimate enough that you can see her react to your reaction. Show at 8 PM. Plaza Theatre, 128 S Palm Canyon Dr, Palm Springs, CA 92262. Tickets through Ticketmaster. Valet parking available at Hotel Zoso. Desert evening, warm crowd, no filter.

The alarm goes off before five and you do not hit snooze, because you are not a morning person except on swap meet days, when the math changes and every minute in bed is a minute somebody else spends walking away with the carburetor you have hunted for six months. Six hundred-plus vendors spread across the stadium grounds, and they have been doing this here since the eighties. Matching-numbers carbs next to crates of weatherstripping next to the guy selling a complete small-block out of a '69 Chevelle that he swears ran when parked. If you know what you are after, it is here somewhere. If you do not, you will leave knowing what you are after next time, and that is the trap, and it works every time. Veterans Memorial Stadium in Long Beach, gates early, finished by early afternoon. Bring cash, bring a wagon, and bring the friend who will talk you out of the third intake manifold.

Nobody leaves with the thing they came for. You go looking for a lamp and come home with deadstock denim, a stack of vinyl, and an object that has no category but is clearly yours. That is what twenty-five hundred vendors on a stadium lot do to a person. Stylists, collectors and vintage hunters have been circling the second Sunday of the month since 1967, and the mix reads like everything Los Angeles has ever absorbed — Japanese streetwear beside 1970s Americana, mid-century furniture next to handmade jewelry, band tees, housewares, art prints. The quality ceiling runs higher than most dedicated vintage markets, because at that vendor count the best of it rises to the top. Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, second Sunday of every month, general admission from 9am and early birds in at 7:30 for first pass. Go with the person who will hold your spot while you double back for the thing you talked yourself out of.

Dogs. On surfboards. In the ocean. Competing in heats. Judged by size category. And somehow taking it more seriously than the humans watching from the beach. The 21st Annual Helen Woodward Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon returns to Del Mar Dog Beach on September 13, 2026. Dogs compete in surfing heats organized by size — from tiny to extra large — riding actual waves on actual surfboards while their owners wade in the shallows trying to look calm. The event is a fundraiser for the Helen Woodward Animal Center, and it draws a crowd that comes for the spectacle and stays because watching a golden retriever catch a wave is genuinely one of the best things you'll ever see. Del Mar Dog Beach, north end of 15th Street, Del Mar, CA 92014. Free to spectate. Parking $25. Send this to someone who has a dog. Send this to someone who doesn't have a dog. Send this to everyone.

The builders start rolling in around six in the morning, staging their machines while the street is still empty, on a beach-town main drag that has been closed to traffic for the occasion. Which sounds like a small thing until you see it. Fourteen blocks. More than seven hundred vehicles. Hot rods, classics, customs, and at least one climb-aboard helicopter parked incongruously among all that chrome. It is free, it is on foot, and it is really a block party wearing a car show's clothes — owners in lawn chairs, ready to narrate an entire restoration to anyone who slows down enough to ask a single question. Second Street in Belmont Shore, Long Beach, on a Sunday morning in September. Go if you have ever slowed down for a beautiful old machine. The people who built these have been waiting all year for somebody to ask them about it.

Tidelands Park in Coronado becomes a very specific kind of museum on the second Sunday of September — one where the exhibits run, leak oil, and their owners explain with unreasonable patience why the Lucas electrical system is actually not as bad as its reputation. San Diego British Car Day brings together every marque you have heard of — Jaguar, MG, Triumph, Austin-Healey, Lotus, Rolls-Royce — and several you haven't, parked on the grass with the Coronado Bridge arcing overhead and the bay behind them. The owners are the real exhibit. They will tell you about the restoration. They will tell you about the parts they sourced from a barn in Shropshire. They will tell you about the time it rained and the wipers only worked on one side. If you care about British cars, this is a pilgrimage. If you don't, it is still one of the most beautiful settings for a car show anywhere in San Diego. Free. Sunday, September 13. Tidelands Park, Coronado.

Irvine Park Railroad Pumpkin Patch & Fall Festival 2026
Sep 13, 2026 ✨ New Irvine Regional Park, 1 Irvine Par…

The pumpkin weighs more than your kid. Your kid wants to carry it anyway. This is October. Irvine Park Railroad's fall festival has been an Orange County tradition long enough that the parents bringing their children are the children who were brought here. Irvine Regional Park transforms from September through October into a harvest wonderland: hayrides through the eucalyptus groves, a not-so-spooky haunted house for the under-seven crowd, hay mazes, train rides, moon bounces, face painting, panning for gold, and a pumpkin patch where the selection runs from baseball to basketball to genuinely-too-large-to-carry. The Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off on September 19 is where growers compete for $8,500 in prizes, and the resulting pumpkins are the kind that require a forklift and a philosophical reassessment of what a plant can do. This is not a corporate Halloween activation. It's a park. With trains. And pumpkins. And the specific joy of watching a three-year-old try to lift something heavier than they are. September 13 through October 31, 2026. Irvine Regional Park, 1 Irvine Park Rd, Orange, CA 92869. Weekends require reservations in October. Park entry $3 weekdays, $5 weekends.

You eat at the same four places. You know the menu without opening it, you know exactly where to sit, and you know your server's name but not what they are studying. This week exists to interrupt that habit — gently, with a fixed menu and a reason to finally walk into the place you have been driving past for years. More than a hundred kitchens take part, spread from Oceanside down to Chula Vista across dozens of neighborhoods, each putting out a two-course lunch or a three-course dinner at a set price. It is not a coupon book. It is the city's culinary ambition compressed into eight days, where chefs who normally compete for your attention all agree to open the door a little wider at the same time. The real gift is the permission structure. No occasion needed, nothing to justify. The whole county decided this is the week, so you are covered. Book the place you have been saving for an occasion that never comes.

Callaway Vineyard Sip, Stomp & Play 2026 — Temecula
Sep 13, 2026 ✨ New Callaway Vineyard & Winery, 32720 …

The grape stomp is not a metaphor. You will actually stand in a barrel. Your feet will be purple. The person next to you will be trying harder than the situation calls for. This is the appeal. Callaway Vineyard's annual Sip, Stomp & Play is one of the harvest celebrations that turns Temecula Wine Country into a destination every September — a Saturday evening that starts with check-in at 6:30, moves through a glass of Callaway wine and an outdoor dinner (the menu changes each year but the vineyard-to-table philosophy doesn't), and peaks with the grape stomping competition where teams of four chase fun prizes with stained ankles and zero technique. Live music and dancing fill the space between the stomping and the stars. Callaway has been making wine in Temecula since 1969, which means the vines you're looking at during dinner are older than most of the guests. Saturday, September 13, 2026. Check-in 6:30 PM. Callaway Vineyard & Winery, 32720 Rancho California Rd, Temecula, CA 92591. $125 general, $100 wine club, $70 kids 4–11.

The late Al Jarreau was one of the most gifted vocalists jazz ever produced, and the musicians who spent years by his side now carry that silky, joyful sound forward as the Al Jarreau Reunion Band, joined by vocalist Chris Walker. On the vineyard-ringed stage of South Coast Winery's Vintner's Garden, their smooth, sophisticated grooves are the perfect soundtrack to a golden Temecula evening. Sunday, September 14, 2026, at South Coast Winery Resort in Temecula. Come for the effortless cool, the sway of a great rhythm section, and a glass of something local as the light fades over the vines. A voice like that reminds you what the instrument was built for. This is grown-and-sexy wine-country jazz, minutes from home instead of an hour on the freeway. Come let it wash over you.

El Grito de Independencia 2026 — Olvera Street, Los Angeles
Sep 15 – Sep 16, 2026 Free 125 Paseo de la Plaza, Los Angeles…

There is a moment near midnight when a few thousand people who have been eating and dancing for hours go completely quiet, because the cry is about to be given again. The grito that launched the revolution in 1810 gets reenacted on the oldest street in Los Angeles, in front of buildings that stood here before the American flag did. Nobody planned that as symbolism; it is simply where the community has always gone. Mariachi starts in the early evening. Regional dance, food, and a plaza filling with families who have been coming for three generations and know exactly where they stand every year. This is not a cultural performance staged for visitors. It is a neighborhood using its own street to mark the date that matters, the way it has always marked it. Free, and the nearby structures fill early. Go with your mother. Stand where she tells you to stand.

There's more here for you.

An account shows you family & community events matched to your exact taste — not just what's popular.
