Petco Park Interactive Zone — Free SDCC Offsite Experience 2026
Jul 23, 2026 Lexus Premier Lot, 100 Park Blvd, …

You do not need a badge to feel like Comic-Con found you. The Interactive Zone at Petco Park is the largest free Comic-Con experience in San Diego — a sprawling lot of brand activations, pop-up shops, food vendors, and cosplay photo ops that turns the Lexus Premier Lot into a theme park for anyone who has ever loved a fictional world more than they can explain. This year's lineup includes MaruMart, an immersive walk-through of a Japanese convenience store from Maruchan with SDCC-exclusive merchandise and surprise giveaways. The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck rolls in with macarons, madeleines, and custom quarter-zips. KAYOU's Walls of Fandom celebrates trading card culture with large-format displays. The Labu'Tique Farmers Market brings Labubus, Squishy Toys, Jelly Cats, and Needohs — the kind of plush haul your inner child has been waiting for. Open Thursday July 23 through Sunday July 26, 10am to 5pm daily (4pm on Sunday). Located in the Lexus Premier Lot next to Petco Park, just across the Harbor Drive pedestrian bridge from the convention center. Free entry. No badge required. Bring the kids, bring the cosplay, bring the energy.

KAYOU Walls of Fandom — SDCC 2026 at Petco Park
Jul 23 – Jul 26, 2026 Petco Park Interactive Zone, 100 P…

The walls are ten feet tall and covered in trading card art you have been staring at on your phone screen for months — except now the colors are the size of your entire body and you are standing inside the frame. KAYOU makes its San Diego Comic-Con debut in 2026 with the Walls of Fandom, a free immersive walkthrough experience at the Interactive Zone at Petco Park. This is KAYOU's first convention appearance, and they brought everything: larger-than-life installations inspired by their trading card lines spanning Naruto, My Little Pony, Demon Slayer, and K-pop collectibles. The experience is a love letter to the artwork behind the cards — the craftsmanship that usually lives behind a plastic sleeve, blown up to a scale where you can finally see the brushstrokes. Beyond the walls: on-site card purchasing, a fan meetup at Tito Rick's Garage (2918 Imperial Ave) on Friday July 24 from 5-9pm with trading sessions and casual My Little Pony TCG play, and the SDCC-exclusive Superfan Passport — collect stamps across KAYOU's three locations and unlock rewards. July 23-26, 10am-5pm daily (Sunday until 4pm). Free admission, no badge required.

New York Comic Con 2026 — New York, NY
Today · Oct 8 – Oct 11 From $45 (1-day) Jacob K. Javits Convention Center,…

The Javits Center in October, a hundred thousand people in four days, every niche of pop culture in one building — and the streets of Hell's Kitchen turning into something you've never seen on a regular Tuesday. The Javits Center fills with a programmatic density that rewards strategic planning. Main stage panels feature talent from the year's biggest genre properties. The show floor covers hundreds of thousands of square feet of publishers, studios, collectibles vendors, and artist booths. Artist Alley at NYCC skews heavily toward comics — the original fanbase — alongside anime, gaming, and TV, giving it a different character than conventions that have shifted more entirely toward film and streaming. The autograph and photo op schedule is extensive; tickets for specific sessions go on sale in advance and sell out. New York Comic Con in 2026 is celebrating twenty years, and the Coney Island theme suggests organizers are going big on identity and atmosphere. The anniversary edition will likely bring programming and exclusives designed for the occasion. If you have been considering NYCC as a destination event, this is the year to go. The East Coast advantage: NYCC is adjacent to one of the world's great cities. The convention ends at 7pm and New York starts. Restaurants, bars, and attractions are all accessible from the Javits Center. Hotel inventory near the venue is limited; book early and consider Hudson Yards or Hell's Kitchen options within walking distance. Tickets go on sale in June with a Superfan Presale for Popverse members opening before general on-sale. Javits Center, New York City. October 8–11, 2026. New York Comic Con was founded in 2006 and reached 250,000 attendance within its first decade. The 20th anniversary edition in 2026 with the Coney Island theme signals that the organizers are treating this as a milestone year — expect expanded programming, anniversary exclusives, and a level of production that reflects two decades of iteration. If you have been waiting for the right year to make NYCC a destination trip, the 20th anniversary is the obvious choice.

LEGOLAND Brick-or-Treat 2026 — Carlsbad
Every Saturday · Next Oct 10 Included with park admission 1 LEGOLAND Drive, Carlsbad, CA 920…

Your kid picked the costume in August, has changed it twice since, and will change it again the morning of. This is known. The whole event was built by people who know it. Brick-or-Treat turns the resort into a Halloween built at kid height. Candy stations scattered across the park, characters in costume handing it out, a monster dance floor going all afternoon, themed builds that exist only for the season. What separates it from every other theme-park overlay is what is missing: no scare zones, no fog in a dark corridor, no teenager in zombie makeup lunging at a toddler. Just a five-year-old in a full Batman suit being taken completely seriously by every adult in the building, which is a rare public service. Select weekends across the fall in Carlsbad, included with park admission on event dates. Go for the walk back to the car, when they fall asleep still holding the bucket.

Bluey's Big Play — Hollywood Pantages
Oct 23, 2026 From $35 6233 Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, CA…

The parents already know: the cartoon dog show that plays on loop in your living room is somehow making you cry over a game of keep-away, and now there is a version your kid can watch happen in front of them, in a room, with the lights down. Bluey's Big Play brings the animated series to the stage for the first time ever, using puppetry and live performance to extend the world of Bluey, Bingo, Bandit, and Chilli beyond the screen. It is built specifically for children ages 2 through 7, but anyone who watches the series regularly knows it rewards the grown-ups just as richly - and this production includes new material written just for the stage. Running time is about 55 minutes with no intermission, which is exactly right for the age group. Arrive early; the lobby experience is part of the fun. The Hollywood Pantages is a 1920s movie palace seating 2,700 on Hollywood Boulevard near Highland Avenue, accessible by Metro B Line (Red) at Hollywood and Highland Station. Parking is available in the adjacent Hollywood and Highland structure. The Pantages books family matinees all season, and the other parents in the lobby will tell you which ones hold up.

MagicCon: Atlanta 2026 — Atlanta, GA
Nov 13 – Nov 15, 2026 Georgia World Congress Center, Bui…

Wizards of the Coast brings the official Magic: The Gathering convention to Atlanta — three days of competitive play, exclusive reveals, and side events that don't exist at a local game store. Step into MagicCon and the scale of the Magic ecosystem becomes visceral. The main hall hosts commander pods running nonstop, side event drafts firing every 90 minutes, and a merchandise floor stocked with exclusive foil treatments and collector editions that do not exist outside the convention walls. The World Championship stage draws a live audience who understands the stakes — watching a pro player navigate a complex board state in a top-8 match is legitimately thrilling even to non-competitive attendees. Panel stages feature lead designers previewing the upcoming set, Reality Fracture, with reveals that ripple across the entire community within minutes of announcement. Meet-and-greets with pro players and content creators run throughout the weekend, though they fill fast. The atmosphere skews intensely knowledgeable — this crowd knows what a Rhystic Study is, why it is obnoxious, and will argue about it with warmth. MagicCon Atlanta is for anyone who plays Magic with genuine investment — not necessarily competitive, but committed. If your Friday nights involve a Commander pod and you have at least one deck you have been tuning for six months, you will feel completely at home here. This is not a casual spectator event. It is for the player who loves the game enough to fly across the country for three days of it. First-timers to MagicCon frequently say the same thing: they had no idea how large and how skilled the community actually is until they walked in. Register for ticketed play events before the convention — sealed and draft pods sell out weeks in advance. Bring your trade binder if you have one: the secondary market area moves fast and has genuine deals. Badge merchandise must be picked up onsite; if you miss the pickup window before close on Sunday, you forfeit it. The Worlds stage is open to badge holders but seating near the feature match area is first-come, standing room fills by round 4 of the top 8. Bring cash for artist alley — many illustrators are cash-only and the original card alters available from top artists are some of the most collectible items in the room. For the Magic community, this is not just an event. It is the proof that the game is still alive, still evolving, and still worth every dollar you have spent on it. MagicCon: Atlanta 2026 runs November 13-15 at the Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta. The same players turn up at regional opens and prereleases the rest of the year; this is the weekend the whole scene is in one building.

Anime Weekend Atlanta 2026 — Atlanta, GA
Nov 19 – Nov 22, 2026 Georgia World Congress Center, Bui…

The American South's longest-running anime convention has been meeting in Atlanta every September since 1997. Anime Weekend Atlanta is where the Southeast's anime fandom comes to recognize itself. Walk the AWA floor on a Thursday night and the energy hits immediately: cosplayers in elaborate handmade builds line the escalators, artist alley tables overflow with original prints and fan art, and the programming halls pulse with AMVs, panel debates, and late-night gaming tournaments that run until 3 AM. The dealers room is legitimately staggering — vintage merchandise, imports, rare figures, and indie creators all packed into a space where you could spend a full day and still miss things. The masquerade on Saturday night is one of the most theatrical cosplay competitions in the country, drawing contestants who have spent months on a single build. AWA moves differently than the mega-cons: it feels less like a trade show and more like a reunion — because for thousands of attendees, it genuinely is. If you grew up watching anime in the South and never found your people, AWA is the answer. This is not for casual fans who think anime is just Naruto and Dragon Ball. It is for people who obsess over seasonal charts, debate subculture lore, and have a hard drive full of unfinished cosplay plans. First-timers frequently describe AWA as the con that finally felt like home. If you are that person — the one who learned Japanese from subtitles and named a pet after a character — this is worth every flight mile. Book your hotel at the World Congress Center Marriott before August or it will sell out — AWA attendees treat the hotel block as sacred and it fills months in advance. Badge pickup lines on Thursday afternoon are brutal; opt for pre-registration and arrive before noon. The dealers room has no ATMs inside — bring cash, bring more than you think you need, and budget for at least one impulse figure you did not plan for. The programming schedule releases about six weeks before the event and fills fast; panel rooms cap out, so plan your must-see events 30 minutes early. The loading dock area outside Building C is where the best spontaneous cosplay photo shoots happen after dark. It is the convention that proved the South has always had its own thriving fan culture — it just needed a room big enough to hold it. AWA 2026 runs November 19-22 at the Georgia World Congress Center, Building C, Atlanta. The Southern con circuit keeps going the rest of the year in far smaller hotels, and the same people build costumes for all of it.

Anime Los Angeles 2027
Jan 7 – Jan 10, 2027 Long Beach Convention Center, 300 …

Some knowledge you cannot buy: which panels are worth lining up an hour early for, which guest signings empty out fast, which late-night rooms never make it onto the printed schedule. Regulars hand that down to each other here, and it is the real inheritance of a convention that has been meeting for over two decades. The tradeoff for running smaller than Anime Expo is access. To the guests, who trend toward voice actors and fan creators who build their year around Southern California cons. To the programming, which you can actually get into. To each other — the dealer room and artist alley run at a scale where you can move without turning sideways. Four days at the Long Beach Convention Center, January 7-10, 2027, and they open the convention calendar for the whole region. Send this to whoever you stood next to in line last year. They are already planning.

SOUL COMIX CON 2026 — Leimert Park Los Angeles

SOUL COMIX CON is a comics festival dedicated to celebrating Black creators, Black characters, and Black storytelling across the comics medium. Organized by DP COMIX and held at the Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center in Leimert Park, one of Los Angeles's most important African American cultural neighborhoods, SOUL COMIX CON brings together indie comics, superhero comics, and graphic novels by Black artists and writers. Attendees can meet Black comic book creators in person, purchase original artwork and limited-edition prints directly from the artists who made them, and discover independent comics that are not available at any chain retailer. A cosplay party is included in the programming, with a focus on characters from Black-created and Black-led comics properties. Family-friendly and all ages. Saturday June 27, 11am to 5pm. Free or low-cost admission. Leimert Park is accessible by Metro and is one of the city's premier destinations for Black art, culture, and community. SOUL COMIX CON represents the kind of niche community gathering that is the reason Falkor exists — a room full of people who care deeply about the same thing, assembled for one afternoon.

UB40 at Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre — Halloween Night at SDSU
Oct 31, 2026 5500 Campanile Dr, San Diego, CA 9…

UB40 on Halloween night at an open-air amphitheater on a college campus is the kind of billing that makes perfect sense to anyone who has ever put Red Red Wine on at a party and watched the room change. The Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre at SDSU holds the crowd close to the stage, the October evening air in San Diego stays warm enough for short sleeves, and the reggae-pop catalog that has sold 100 million records worldwide sounds exactly the way it was designed to sound: outdoors, under stars, with a crowd that knows every word to Can't Help Falling in Love and Kingston Town before the first note plays. The fact that it falls on Halloween means the costume game in the GA section is going to be worth the price of admission on its own — imagine Red Red Wine performed to a crowd dressed as superheroes. Friday, October 31. Gates at 7 PM, show at 8 PM. Tickets via AXS.

PAWmicon 2026 — Comic-Con Pet Cosplay at Balboa Park
Jul 21, 2026 Presidents Way Lawn, Balboa Park, …

Somewhere in your house there is an animal who has been waiting for this. Not for the walk, not for the treat jar — for the moment someone finally sees what you have always known: that your dog was born to be a superhero. PAWmicon is Helen Woodward Animal Center's annual pre-Comic-Con costume contest, and it turns the Presidents Way Lawn at Balboa Park into the most wholesome red carpet San Diego will see all week. Three categories — Flying Solo, Duos and Trios, and Fantastic Floats (for pets with a ride) — and every entry gets a crowd that screams like it is Hall H. The difference is that here, nobody is pretending to be excited. The golden retriever in the Spider-Man suit genuinely believes he is saving the city, and honestly, he might be right. The event is free to watch. Entry is $20 in advance, $30 at the door. It launches on Tuesday, July 21 at 4 PM, two days before Comic-Con opens — which means it is the first cosplay competition of the week, and the only one where the contestants will love you unconditionally afterward. Presidents Way Lawn, Balboa Park, near the Air and Space Museum. Bring a blanket. Bring your phone. Bring the dog who has been rehearsing.

Long Beach Comic Expo 2027
Feb 6, 2027 Long Beach Convention Center, 300 …

At most conventions the person who actually drew the thing is behind a rope with a line and a forty-second window. Here they are sitting at a table with an empty chair beside them. That is the entire identity of this one-day show: writers, pencilers, inkers, colorists, letterers — working professionals available for a real conversation about the craft instead of a signature and a shove. The floor treats mainstream and alternative as equals, Marvel and DC in the same aisles as independent publishers and self-published creators who came because the audience here came specifically for comics. Artist alley carries a density of professional quality that bigger, more casual shows cannot match. One day only, at the convention center downtown, with the Metro A Line running straight into Long Beach. Check the official site for the date. Go with the person who lent you their first trade paperback. Buy them something original.

The convention floor closes. The lights come up. You're standing in a hallway holding a prop sword and a bag of prints, and every cell in your body is saying: not yet. Hidden Leaf After Dark is the official Anime San Diego after-party — the room where the energy that built all day doesn't have to stop. Five DJs take the Convention Center stage after the panels end, spinning anime anthems remixed for a crowd that already knows every word. The cosplays stay on. The dance floor fills with people who spent the day in artist alley and are now discovering each other's moves. Shonen Riot produces this alongside Anime San Diego, so the handoff is seamless — same community, different mode. You don't need a convention badge to attend. The only thing you need is the specific feeling that the day wasn't enough. Friday, September 5, 2026. Doors 8:30 PM. San Diego Convention Center. 18+. Tickets $29.51.

Anime Frontier 2026 — Fort Worth, TX
Dec 4, 2026 Fort Worth Convention Center, 1201…

There is a convention center in Fort Worth where, for three days every December, the cowboys and the cosplayers share the same sidewalk — and nobody blinks, because Texas has always been bigger than any one identity. Anime Frontier returns to the Fort Worth Convention Center December 4–6, 2026, for three days of premieres, panels, and special appearances from some of the biggest names in anime and manga. Presented by Crunchyroll, Anime Frontier has carved out a space that the East Coast cons like Anime NYC and Otakon and West Coast cons like Anime Expo do not cover — the entire middle of the country, where anime fandom runs just as deep but the nearest major convention used to be a 12-hour drive. The convention has grown rapidly since its launch, filling a geographic gap that the anime community had been complaining about for years. The exhibitor hall and artist alley bring together hundreds of vendors, from official merch drops to independent artists whose work you will only find at cons like this. The programming runs from industry panels and world premieres to cosplay showcases and community meetups, and the scale is big enough to feel like a real convention without the crushing density of a 100K-attendance mega-con. New for 2026 is a Kids Sunday ticket and a dedicated Family Zone presented by Scholastic — a signal that Anime Frontier is building for the next generation of fans, not just serving the current one. If you are an anime fan in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, or anywhere in the central United States, Anime Frontier is the con that finally means you do not have to fly to a coast. If you are a veteran con-goer from either coast, Fort Worth offers something the big cons cannot — a manageable size, walkable downtown hotels and restaurants, and the Texas hospitality that makes out-of-towners want to come back every year. Tickets include single-day and 3-day badges, with Premium AF passes for extra access and perks. Ordering by October 23 gets your badge shipped before the event. Fort Worth in December is mild enough for outdoor cosplay without the summer heat that plagues most anime cons. The convention center is downtown, walkable to dozens of restaurants and bars, and the whole experience feels like a community gathering rather than a corporate expo. For the anime community in the middle of America, Anime Frontier is no longer the new con — it is the home con.

Comic Tron - Comic Con After Party
Jul 25 – Jul 26, 2026 1337 India Street, San Diego, CA 9…

The convention center goes dark at six, but the people inside it don't power down — they just need somewhere to put the charge. That's the whole reason a tribute act spent years building replica chromed helmets, a full-scale pyramid stage, and electro-luminescent suits that glow like the inside of a game grid. They believe the best hours of Comic-Con week aren't on the floor at all — they're after, when the badge comes off and the costume stays on and a room full of strangers turns out to be exactly your people. Little Italy's Music Box becomes a Tron sequence for one night: futuristic beats, glowing everything, an "Alive 2007"-style spectacle that treats Daft Punk like scripture. Cosplayers, ravers, and the SDCC crowd who refuse to call it a night all end up under the same lights. You do not need a Comic-Con badge to walk in. Doors at 8PM, the night ignites at 9PM, Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Music Box, 1337 India Street, San Diego, CA 92101. Tickets through Belly Up.

Thrilljoy Block Party: Rock the Block — SDCC 2026
Jul 25, 2026 InterContinental San Diego, 901 Ba…

The collectibles community has its own SDCC — and this is it. Thrilljoy's Rock the Block takes over the InterContinental San Diego on Saturday night of Comic-Con week with exclusive PIX Packs, carnival games, giveaways, and the kind of energy that only happens when people who obsess over the same things end up in the same room. When tickets launched, bots crashed the site. Thrilljoy had to manually cancel suspicious purchases and restore spots for real collectors. That is not a marketing story — that is the community telling you how badly they wanted in. The demand is the signal. Every attendee gets two drink tickets, food, and an exclusive Block Party PIX Pack with event-only items you cannot get anywhere else. This is the party where your shelf gets something nobody else's shelf has. The games and giveaways run all night. The venue is steps from the Convention Center — close enough to still feel the SDCC energy, far enough to breathe. Ages 5 and up. Doors at 6 PM, runs until 11 PM. Tickets are 165 dollars and limited to 2 per person — this is intentionally small. The InterContinental San Diego is at 901 Bayfront Ct, right on the waterfront. If you collect, this is your Saturday night.

New York went without a major anime convention for an embarrassingly long time given how many people there wanted one, and when it finally arrived it grew faster than almost any convention in American history. Anime NYC now fills the Javits Center on the far west side of Manhattan and has become the East Coast's largest anime event, with the industry treating it as a genuine announcement platform rather than a regional stop. What separates it from the older conventions is that it feels like it belongs to the city rather than to a hotel complex. Attendees spill into Hell's Kitchen and midtown between panels; the after-hours culture happens in restaurants and karaoke rooms rather than in hotel hallways. Inside, the industry presence is unusually heavy — Japanese publishers and studios send real delegations, there are manga creators doing signings who rarely leave Japan, and the concert programming has brought over acts that had never played the United States. The dealers hall is large and the artist alley is genuinely excellent, benefiting from the density of illustrators who already live within a train ride. Is it worth it? If you follow manga and the industry side of anime rather than only the shows, this is the best convention in the country for you, because the guests are the people who actually make it. If you want a warm, sprawling, all-night fan convention, the hotel-based cons in the Midwest and Maryland do that better — Javits closes and you go out into Manhattan, which is a different experience and an expensive one. What to know before you go: badges sell out, sometimes months ahead, and there is no walk-up. Javits is a long avenue walk from the nearest subway; budget the time. Late August in New York is hot and humid and the costume math should account for that. Ticketed signings are allocated by lottery — enter early. And eat outside the building; you are in one of the best food cities on earth. It earns a place here because the speed at which it grew is the clearest single piece of evidence about how large this audience actually became, and that is worth knowing even from across the country. Anime NYC 2027 runs August 26–29, 2027 at the Javits Center.

Ready Party One: The Final Level
Jul 22 – Jul 23, 2026 $30–$75 615 Broadway, San Diego, CA 92101

Someone decided years ago that the night before the badges go live shouldn't be spent packing a bag in a hotel room. They believed the people who fly in early — the cosplayers, the arcade diehards, the friends who only see each other once a year on this one downtown block — needed a room of their own before the show floor ever opened. So they built one, and they've rebuilt it every summer since 2018. This year it's a neon-lit digital battlefield: arcade legends and fighting-game champions, console warriors, the golden age of gaming rendered in light and bass. There's an 80s tribute band that has been part of this since the beginning, a 90s band, DJs scratching records, and a few thousand people who all got the same text from the same friend that said "this is us, we're going." It is the unofficial opening ceremony of the week — the moment the city stops being a place you visit and starts being a place you belong to. Logistics: Wednesday, July 22, 2026, 8:00 PM to 2:00 AM at Parq Nightclub, 615 Broadway, San Diego, CA 92101 (Preview Night, the night before Comic-Con officially opens). General admission and VIP tickets available through XLE Productions on Tixr.

Rose City Comic Con 2026 — Portland, OR
Sep 11 – Sep 13, 2026 Oregon Convention Center, 777 NE M…

You can spend hours in artist alley here just talking with independent creators - not waiting in a celebrity autograph line, actually talking - and that is the tell about what kind of convention this is. Three days at the Oregon Convention Center of floor, panels, and programming, built for people who care about comics as an art form: the creators and the medium, not only the IP franchises. Celebrity guests span comics, film, and television, with signing and photo opportunities throughout the weekend, but the heart of the show is the alley and the cosplay, which is one of the strongest scenes on the West Coast - the hall dense with elaborate builds and the crowd treating it as a showcase rather than a costume contest. Gaming rooms, tabletop areas, and panel programming round out a schedule that can run ten hours a day for serious attendees. What makes Rose City hold together is that it is built for people who love comics as a medium and stays genuinely accessible while doing it: the scale is manageable, the crowd is easy, and tickets run $17-$105 depending on day and package. For cosplayers, the Portland fanbase means extraordinary hall costumes without the New York or San Diego Comic-Con crowds. If the bigger conventions have priced or exhausted you out, this delivers the best of what those events promise at a fraction of the friction. It has quietly become the essential West Coast convention for independent comics, occupying the space between the industry-scale San Diego Comic-Con and the grassroots spirit of smaller regional shows. Portland's identity as a creative, DIY city gives it an energy distinct from LA or Bay Area equivalents - this is where you find what is coming in comics before it reaches mass-market shelves. A few practical notes. Friday hours are 1 to 8 PM, Saturday 10 AM to 7 PM, Sunday 10 AM to 5 PM; Saturday crowds are significantly denser, which makes Sunday the calmer entry point for first-timers. Artist Alley is the heart of the show, so budget both time and money for it. The Oregon Convention Center is served by Portland MAX light rail, and the Convention Center stop drops you right at the door, so a car is unnecessary if you are staying downtown. Long Beach Comic Con 2026
Sep 5 – Sep 6, 2026 From $20 Long Beach Convention Center, 300 …

Somewhere along the way the big conventions stopped being about comics and started being about movie trailers. This is the one that didn't drift. Two days built around the actual thing — the pencilers and writers and colorists and letterers who came precisely because the people in this room came for the work, not the IP announcement. That focus changes the whole texture of it. The dealer room is back issues and original art and independent publishers you won't find at the mega-shows. The artist alley is close enough to reach without a strategy. The panels are about craft — how the page gets made — instead of a studio sizzle reel. If the bigger cons priced you out or wore you down, this is the one that kept faith with the reason you started reading in the first place. Long Beach Convention Center, 300 E Ocean Blvd — October 17–18, 2026, from $20 at longbeachcomicexpo.com. It's right on the water with the Pike a short walk for lunch. Somewhere past the fountain, after the light drops behind the eucalyptus, you will hear a hum and then a crack, and you will follow the sound the way everybody else does. Dozens of people who built their own sabers gather during Comic-Con week to settle who can actually fight with one. It has been going for ten years now, and what started as enthusiasts swinging illuminated polycarbonate has turned into a real circuit: choreographed duels, freestyle bouts, fighters who train for months at a time. The blades crack audibly when they connect. Nobody in the crowd arrives expecting it to be genuinely athletic, and everybody figures that out inside of one round. Anime NYC 2026
Aug 20 – Nov 22, 2026 From $175 Javits Center, New York, NY 10001

The East Coast doesn't have Anime Expo. It built Anime NYC — and for the community on the right side of the country, that distinction matters. Javits Center, November 20-22, 2026. Three days, one convention floor, and the crowd that traveled 400 miles to be in the same room as guests who shaped the shows they grew up on. Panels, artist alley, industry announcements, the con floor energy that only happens when this many people are this invested. The guest roster pulls from English and Japanese voice acting, manga artists, and industry figures who don't appear at US conventions often. Artist Alley is one of the larger ones on the East Coast circuit. The show floor runs exhibitors across the full range — merchandise, media, collectibles. Badges from $175. New York City is the venue around the venue — the community migrates through Midtown after hours. The East Coast convention that became its own thing.

Anime Expo 2027 — Day 4 (Sunday)
Jul 4, 2027 Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…

Everyone chases the opening days — the announcements, the premieres, the Hall H-sized adrenaline. The people who know AX chase the last one. Sunday is when the world's largest anime convention exhales: the lines go short, the floor slows down, and the conversations finally stop being shouted between panels and start being real. It's also the day the floor gets generous. Artist Alley cuts prices to clear the table, exhibitors let exclusive merch go at a discount, and the Closing Ceremonies — the weekend cosplay recap, the Masquerade awards, the official goodbye — mark the moment four days of strangers become the community that'll wait a whole year to reassemble. Day 4 badges are the easiest to find on resale and the most underrated ticket of the convention. And in 2027 the finale lands on the Fourth of July, with fireworks visible from parts of the LACC plaza depending on which way they launch. Anime Expo 2027, Sunday July 4, Los Angeles Convention Center. Take Metro or rideshare — downtown parking and traffic are brutal on the Fourth. Come for the goodbye; it's the part that stays with you.

Anime NYC 2026 - New York, NY
Aug 20 – Aug 23, 2026 Jacob K. Javits Convention Center,…

The Javits Center in August. Four days, 150,000 attendees — the largest anime convention on the East Coast. It started in 2017 as a regional alternative to AX and became something much larger. The Javits Center in August feels like a contained version of the anime internet made physical. Cosplay is everywhere and serious -- the craftsmanship people bring to their costumes is a form of artistic expression that deserves its own category. The exhibition hall has major publishers like Crunchyroll, Yen Press, and Nakama Press launching titles; creator meet-and-greets and autograph lotteries for guests like Yuji Kaku of Jujutsu Kaisen fill up in hours. Over 150 hours of programming runs simultaneously across panels, screenings, and Q-and-A sessions with creators. The New York City setting amplifies everything -- the crowd has NYC energy, the restaurants outside are excellent, and the convention benefits from the cultural infrastructure of the country's most connected city. Anime NYC is worth it for anyone serious about anime or manga culture. For East Coast fans who have not made the trip to Anime Expo in Los Angeles, this is the domestic pilgrimage -- the place where the industry treats you as a primary audience rather than a secondary market. For fans of specific titles, the autograph lotteries for major creators are reasons unto themselves. The 2026 edition adds a Family Zone presented by Scholastic and a Kids Sunday ticket for ages 6 to 12 -- signaling the generational shift already underway. This is not for people who want a casual festival atmosphere. It is for people who know their fandoms, track release schedules, and understand why certain announcements matter. Badge prices increase after May 31 -- purchase now if you are going. Bring a refillable water bottle; drinks inside run $4 and up with free fill stations throughout the Javits. Skip the Javits Starbucks and use the Hudson Yards location a short walk away. Walk Artist Alley and the Exhibition Hall completely once without buying -- collect business cards, compare prices, note everything -- then return to purchase. Autograph lotteries for top guests fill fast; register the moment they open. Bathrooms near the Expo Floor and Artist Alley get congested by midday; plan accordingly. Anime NYC's rise to East Coast dominance reflects something real: anime is no longer a niche import. It is one of the primary storytelling languages of a generation that grew up watching Naruto, reading One Piece, and building identities around the worlds attached to those stories. Anime NYC is where that generation convenes, where Japanese creators recognize their American audience in person, and where the next phase of the culture gets seeded. The Family Zone added in 2026 signals what is already happening: this is a mainstream cultural institution that happens to be run by and for people who care deeply about the craft. MEGACON Orlando 2027 — Orlando, FL
May 20, 2027 Orange County Convention Center, 9…

The largest fan convention in the southeastern United States happens in a city already built entirely around manufactured wonder, which could have made it redundant and instead makes it a useful contrast — this is the weekend when Orlando's fantasy is assembled by the people attending rather than sold to them. MEGACON has grown into a four-day event at the Orange County Convention Center drawing well over a hundred thousand people. What it is, practically, is enormous and unusually broad. Comics, anime, gaming, horror, science fiction and a large celebrity guest roster all sit under one roof, and the show has leaned hard into fan-built spectacle: costume contests with real production value, a substantial number of large-scale prop and vehicle builds, and an artist alley that has become one of the bigger ones in the country. Because Florida draws attendees from across the Southeast and the Caribbean, the crowd composition is different from the coastal shows — younger on average, more family groups, and noticeably more first-timers, which gives the floor an enthusiasm that jaded convention veterans find slightly startling. Worth it? If you live anywhere in the Southeast, this is the show, and the guest list alone usually justifies it. If you are traveling from far away specifically for it, the honest answer is that the convention is excellent but the surrounding city will absorb your budget fast, so plan for that deliberately rather than accidentally. It is not the show for deep comics scholarship; it is the show for scale, spectacle and meeting people whose work you know from a screen. What to know: the Orange County Convention Center is vast and the two buildings are a real walk apart, so check your hall. Autograph and photo op tickets sell separately and the popular ones go early. Florida in May is hot and the walk from parking is unshaded. Bring water; there are refill stations. And the Thursday preview day is significantly calmer if your badge covers it. It sits on this list because a hundred thousand people building their own spectacle in the shadow of the world's most engineered one is a genuinely interesting thing to know is happening. MEGACON Orlando 2027 runs May 20–23, 2027 at the Orange County Convention Center.

The regulars know each other. That is the first thing you notice — you have walked into a room with a history. The longest-running monthly pop culture convention in Los Angeles, and the floor shows it. Dealer tables with original comic art, golden and silver age books, horror movie posters, vintage paperbacks, and people who have been collecting long enough to know exactly what they are holding. The range is the pleasure of it. A box of beat-up Bronze Age books next to a signed original piece next to a stack of sci-fi paperbacks somebody clearly loved and somebody clearly let go of. If you bring a want list the dealers will dig for you. If you do not bring one, you leave with one. Sunday morning is the quietest session and the right entry point if you are new — dealers dealing, collectors talking to collectors, the whole floor laid out in front of you. Ask a veteran convention-goer which day they actually love and a surprising number will say the last one — when the urgency has drained out and what is left is a hall full of people who came for the same thing, quietly aware it is ending for another year. Sunday is the undervalued badge. Crowds thin. Artist Alley cuts prices on whatever is left rather than haul it home. Vendors bundle things that were not bundled on Friday. Publishers discount remaining stock. The competition for panel seats evaporates and the convention finally becomes a social space instead of a logistics problem. Awesome Con 2027 — Washington, DC
Apr 23, 2027 Walter E. Washington Convention Ce…

Washington takes itself extremely seriously fifty-one weekends a year, and once each spring several tens of thousands of people in costume take over its convention center and the effect is genuinely restorative. Awesome Con is the capital's pop culture convention, and its particular character comes from the city it happens in: there is a substantial science track built with the Smithsonian and NASA sitting directly alongside the comics and the film guests, and it does not feel bolted on. What that produces is a convention where a nine-year-old can go from a panel by an actual planetary scientist to a line for a voice actor without leaving the building, and where the crowd is noticeably more family-heavy and more racially mixed than most large cons. The Walter E. Washington Convention Center is enormous and easy to move around, which matters more than people expect — there is room to sit, room to eat, room for kids to melt down and recover. Artist alley is strong. The cosplay is competitive without being cliquish. And because it is April in Washington, the city outside is at its best; a lot of attendees build a weekend around the museums, which are free. Worth it? If you have children who are into any of this, it is one of the best large conventions in the country for that, and the science programming is a genuine differentiator rather than a marketing line. If you are a hardcore collector chasing exclusives, the bigger coastal shows have deeper inventory. Awesome Con is broad rather than deep, and that breadth is the point. What to know before you go: the convention center sits on top of a Metro station, so do not drive — parking downtown is punitive and the trains run late. Badges are cheaper in advance and children's pricing is generous. Saturday is by far the busiest day; Friday and Sunday are calmer and better for actually talking to artists. Bring a bag for prints. And if you are traveling in, the museums a few blocks away mean the non-convention hours are unusually well spent. It is on this list because a convention that treats curiosity and fandom as the same impulse is a rarer thing than it should be, and because a weekend where the most self-serious city in America lets go is worth knowing about. Awesome Con 2027 runs April 23–25, 2027 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

MAVERiC Studio Night Market & Dice Goblins — SDCC 2026
Jul 24, 2026 1100 Market St, San Diego, CA 92101

Friday night of Comic-Con week, when the convention center locks its doors and the Gaslamp fills with people who still have energy to burn, a night market opens at UC San Diego Park & Market that exists for the people who came to San Diego because they love games, not just the ones on screens. Dice Goblins is a tabletop gaming night market where the vendor tables sell handmade dice sets, custom miniatures, indie RPG zines, and the kind of leather-bound journals that make you want to start a campaign just so you have somewhere to write. MAVERiC Studio hosts this as a free event that does not require a Comic-Con badge. The format is part night market, part gaming lounge. Tables are set up for pickup games. Indie game designers demo unreleased titles. The dice merchants are there because they know that Comic-Con week concentrates more tabletop gamers per square mile than any other week in any other city, and they are right. The crowd is a mix of D&D lifers, Pathfinder converts, miniature painters who brought their work, and people who have never rolled a d20 but are about to. Doors open at 5:00 PM and run until 11:30 PM. The location at Park & Market puts it close enough to the Gaslamp that you can walk from the convention center but far enough that the vibe is its own thing. Free entry. No badge. Just tabletop culture, after dark, during the week when that culture peaks.

Vans Warped Tour Long Beach 2026
Jul 25, 2026 Shoreline Waterfront, 100 Aquarium…

Somewhere between the last note of a high school anthem and the first chord of a song you forgot you loved, there is a parking lot that smells like sunscreen and regret. Vans Warped Tour returns to Long Beach on July 25-26 at Shoreline Waterfront, and if you grew up screaming lyrics into your bedroom mirror, this is the weekend you have been waiting for since they said it was over. Nearly 150 bands across two days — Jimmy Eat World, All Time Low, Simple Plan, Papa Roach, The Used, Flogging Molly, Underoath, Dance Gavin Dance, The Story So Far, and dozens more — spanning pop punk, emo, metalcore, ska, and everything in between. Gates open at 11 AM both days. Beyond the stages, the festival grounds feature Artist Alley, a Sponsor Village, Extreme Sports demonstrations, Record Label Row, Charity Circle, and a Warped Tour Museum chronicling the festival's legacy. Single-day and two-day GA and VIP passes are available. This is not nostalgia. This is the room where every chorus still hits like the first time.

FAN EXPO Dallas 2026 — Dallas, TX
Sep 11 – Sep 13, 2026 Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Ce…

Walk onto the floor on Saturday morning and the whole logic of the place clicks: this is a convention built to hold the entire range of fan culture under one roof without splitting anyone off from anyone else. Anime, gaming, horror, comics - all of it, 65,000 people, three days in Dallas. The anime wing runs voice actor signings and screening rooms. The gaming section has playable demos and tournament brackets. The horror area draws cult actors and practical-effects artists. The comics floor features creators behind titles both mainstream and independent. Celebrity photo ops and autograph lines run all weekend, and FAN EXPO's booking operation is one of the most reliable in the industry - the guests announced are the guests who actually show. The Cosplay Red Carpet on Saturday is a highlight, with contestants from across Texas and the surrounding region bringing builds that rival anything at the coastal mega-cons. The crowd energy skews genuinely enthusiastic rather than industry-transactional, and first-timers frequently note how manageable the floor layout is despite the scale. This is for anyone who has wanted to see their favorite franchise represented at scale - not just as merchandise, but as community. It's family-accessible without being dumbed down, competitive without being exclusionary, and large enough to spend a full day discovering things you didn't plan for. The Friday preview session runs 4-9 PM and is notably less crowded than the weekend, so with a three-day pass, Friday evening is the best time to cover artist alley. Celebrity photo ops sell out weeks before the event - book through the FAN EXPO app as soon as your guests are announced. The convention center is accessible from the Dallas Convention Center DART station, the practical choice on Saturday when surrounding parking fills. Bring a battery pack; you'll live on your phone for the app schedule and maps. Saturday afternoon is peak crowd; Sunday morning is the quietest slot. The Dallas edition has grown into the defining fan event for the entire South-Central region - the convention people in Houston, Austin, Oklahoma City, and beyond mark on their calendars. September 11-13 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, Dallas. Tickets at fanexpohq.com/fanexpodallas.

Tampa Bay Comic Con 2026 — Tampa, FL
Sep 4 – Sep 6, 2026 Tampa Convention Center, 333 S Fra…

The Southeast built this weekend to answer a specific ache — the annual pang of SDCC envy from the wrong side of the country. Over Labor Day weekend, 75,000 people fill the Tampa Convention Center for every comic and pop culture genre under one roof - and for the East Coast outside New York, this is the one. The floor is enormous and overwhelming in the best possible way. The guest list runs three tiers: Hollywood actors from properties people grew up on, comic industry legends, and independent creators who set up Artist Alley as their primary annual market. The celebrity photo ops and autograph queues are well-organized, which is not always true at conventions this size. And the cosplay is extraordinary - TBCC has built a reputation as one of the top cosplay destinations in the Southeast, and the Saturday costume contest is a legitimate event in its own right. This is for the fan who wants the full convention experience - celebrity access, comic industry presence, Artist Alley depth, panel programming - without flying to San Diego or navigating New York. If you are in Florida, the Southeast, or anywhere on the East Coast outside the city, TBCC is the answer, and the Labor Day timing makes it a natural end-of-summer anchor. A few things worth knowing before you go: single-day tickets exist, but weekend passes sell at a real discount and most one-day buyers wish they had bought three. The Convention Center sits on the Tampa Riverwalk - an easy ride from downtown hotels, difficult to park near, worth planning around. Saturday is the fullest day; Sunday is noticeably more relaxed with shorter autograph queues. Bring cash for Artist Alley, since the independent creators who make the floor special tend to run cash-only or Square setups. What TBCC ultimately proves is that the Southeast has a fan community rivaling any market in the country. A convention at 75,000 attendees should require a city like New York or Los Angeles, and it happens in Tampa every year. That is not a small thing. It is the proof that the culture is everywhere, not just concentrated on the coasts.

There is a hallway you have only ever walked in your headphones, and now it has a door. Audible is taking over Swing Social at 527 Fifth Avenue in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter on July 24-25 for the Level Up Lounge — a free, no-badge-required offsite during San Diego Comic-Con. The activation is built around Dungeon Crawler Carl, the LitRPG phenomenon that turned a man and his cat into the most-listened audiobook series on the platform. Fans can complete themed activities to earn XP redeemable for exclusive loot and prizes. The experience includes a Bobiverse-inspired BobNet zone, a Dungeon Crawler Carl survival station where you can record your own Crawler Incident Report, cosplay touch-up stations, phone charging lounges, photo ops, and more. On Friday July 24 from noon to 6 PM, a fully wrapped Princess Donut Food Truck parks at 502 7th Avenue serving free donut holes — including the Goddamnit Donut (cinnamon), Samantha's Head (powdered sugar), and The Desperado Glaze (vanilla). Saturday features creator panels with bestselling author Matt Dinniman and narrator Jeff Hays from 1-4 PM. Free entry, first come first served.

VidCon 2026 — Anaheim, CA
Jun 25 – Jun 27, 2026 Anaheim Convention Center, 800 W K…

Millions of subscribers, thousands of fans, several days in Anaheim — the moment the people on the other side of the screen become real. VidCon is where the parasocial relationship finds its physical address. What it feels like to be there: VidCon operates on a different logic than most entertainment conventions. The celebrities here are creators who built their audience one subscriber at a time — the recognition runs both ways in a way it rarely does at traditional fan events. A creator who makes videos for 2 million subscribers genuinely knows the specific language and inside jokes of their audience, and the interactions in hallways and signing lines reflect that. The energy is different from comic conventions: less cosplay, more collaboration and mutual recognition between people who have been watching each other's content for years. Is it worth it? VidCon is for people who consume content online and want to experience its creators in person, or for people building a creator career who want access to industry conversations that do not exist elsewhere. Community Track provides the fan-meeting experience. Creator Track has panels and workshops taught by people who figured out what you are still trying to figure out. Featured Creator panels are the highest-demand events and require early arrival. What to know before you go: The Anaheim Convention Center is large, and VidCon fills all of it — reviewing the schedule the night before and planning your route through the building is essential, not optional. Lines form early for Featured Creator events; arrive 30-60 minutes ahead for the creators you most want to see. The Anaheim Resort Transit or a nearby hotel within walking distance are practical alternatives to convention center parking. Programming emphasis shifts between days, with Creator and Industry days having different energy from Community days. VidCon matters because it documents a cultural shift that happened faster than most institutions could track. The most-watched content on Earth in 2026 was made by individuals in their homes, not studios — and VidCon is where the people who made that happen gather to meet the communities that chose them. That is a historically unusual thing, and watching it in person is worth understanding even if you never attend. 2026 specifics: This is VidCon Anaheim 15th anniversary edition. The biggest new addition is a dedicated AI and Innovation Track -- the first VidCon to formally address AI tools as a creator discipline. For anyone building a content business in 2026, this track will be the most talked-about room at the convention. Honest split: Creator Pass holders consistently rate VidCon as worth it for education and networking. Community track holders are increasingly mixed -- the fan experience peaked around 2018-2019 as brand activations thinned. The value depends entirely on which track you buy. 55,000 attendees expected.

National Book Festival 2026 — Washington, DC
Aug 22, 2026 Walter E. Washington Convention Ce…

You came for one author and you left carrying a reading list that will take you through winter. Nobody warned you about that — the way a book festival rearranges your plans for the next six months without asking. The National Book Festival is the Library of Congress's annual gift to the country: a single day where the institution that holds 175 million items opens its arms and says, come talk to the people who write the things you cannot stop thinking about. The 26th edition takes over the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in DC on August 22, 2026 — free, all day, from 9am to 8pm. The festival features conversations, readings, and signings across multiple stages organized by genre. Fiction, poetry, history, children's and young adult, graphic novels, science — every section runs simultaneously, which means you will spend the day making impossible choices between panels and loving every minute of it. This is the largest book festival in the United States, typically drawing more than 100,000 attendees to spend a full day surrounded by language. What the regulars know: the signing lines form fast after each session ends. If there is an author you need to meet, position yourself near their stage exit fifteen minutes before the panel wraps. The children's section is not just for children — some of the best storytelling of the day happens there. And the Library of Congress pavilion is where you find the rare items from the collection that never make it online. The Poetry and Prose stage often has the shortest line and the most devastating readings. The convention center layout rewards planning — download the map early and mark your must-sees, because the venue is large enough that moving between stages takes real time. Comfortable shoes are not optional. Tickets are free but required — register early, they go. Livestreaming is available for those who cannot make the trip, but the real thing is in the room where someone reads the first paragraph of a book you did not know existed and you feel your posture change. August 22, 2026. Walter E. Washington Convention Center, 801 Mt Vernon Pl NW, Washington, DC 20001. Doors at 8:30am.

Anime Expo 2026 — Day 3
Jul 4, 2026 From $65 Los Angeles Convention Center, 120…

Day 3 at Anime Expo is when the convention becomes itself. Saturday, July 4, 2026 at the Los Angeles Convention Center — the highest-attendance day of the largest anime convention in North America. Over 100,000 fans across the floor, programming running in every corner of the building, the cosplay competition at full force. This year, Day 3 carries weight for two fandoms simultaneously. The BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War — The Calamity panel takes place Saturday morning at Crypto.com Arena, with Japanese VA Masakazu Morita and English voice director Johnny Yong Bosch present. And in the afternoon (2:45–4:05 PM, JW Diamond room), Science SARU presents the North American premiere panel for Ghost in the Shell 2026 — the first new entry in the franchise in over a decade, premiering on streaming July 7. This is a rare convergence: two landmark franchise events, one day, one convention. Beyond the main panels: the Artist Alley is at its most densely packed, exclusives sell out by early afternoon, and the spontaneous meetups — people who found each other because of a shared series, a specific cosplay, a niche fandom — run into the night. Plan for crowds at the main entrances by midmorning. General admission and day badges available. The Saturday ticket moves fastest.

The Transformers: The Movie 40th Anniversary Celebration of Life Concert — SDCC 2026
Jul 23, 2026 House of Blues San Diego, 1055 Fif…

Hasbro's tongue-in-cheek Apology Tour arrives at House of Blues San Diego during SDCC week — and if you grew up with the 1986 Transformers movie, you already know what they're apologizing for. Forty years after the animated film that traumatized a generation (yes, THAT scene), this is the live concert celebration that turns grief into guitar solos. Stan Bush performs The Touch — the anthem that has outlived the movie, the toys, and every live-action sequel since. Vince DiCola, who scored the original film, returns with the synth-heavy compositions that defined an era. Britta Phillips, the original singing voice of Jem from Jem and the Holograms, brings an unexpected crossover that 80s kids didn't know they needed. Knights of Unicron and Cold Slither round out a lineup built for people who know that 1986 was the year animation got serious. This is not a nostalgia act. This is the room where people who cried at a cartoon robot's death — and never fully recovered — gather to hear the music that made it hit so hard. The kind of night where a stranger next to you mouths every word to Dare and you realize you've known each other your whole life. Doors open at 7 PM. Show starts at 8 PM. General admission is 50 dollars. VIP is 100 dollars and includes early entry, exclusive merch, private viewing area, and a gift bag of curated items. House of Blues San Diego is at 1055 Fifth Ave — walking distance from the Convention Center. Part of Hasbro's year-long 40th anniversary celebration of The Transformers: The Movie.
