Scream Diego 2026 — Halloween & Horror Convention
In 10 days · Oct 17 DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel San Die…

A horror panel tucked inside somebody else's general convention always feels like being let in through a side door. This is the other thing entirely — a whole weekend built by people who wanted to be in a horror room and stopped waiting for permission to have one. You can tell from the guest list. The names here come from the films themselves, not from adjacent franchises with a horror-shaped marketing angle, and that single detail tells you exactly who the weekend is for. The floor runs both days: vendors, artists, and an artist alley carrying original work, prop replicas, and merch that never surfaces at the mainstream shows. The people filling it pre-order the special editions, know the director's full filmography, and hold real opinions about the best practical effect of the last decade. Two days in October, in a Mission Valley hotel with real function rooms, in the one month the whole city is finally in the right season for it. If you take horror seriously, you already know who you are texting about this.

UB40 at Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre — Halloween Night at SDSU
Oct 31, 2026 5500 Campanile Dr, San Diego, CA 9…

UB40 on Halloween night at an open-air amphitheater on a college campus is the kind of billing that makes perfect sense to anyone who has ever put Red Red Wine on at a party and watched the room change. The Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre at SDSU holds the crowd close to the stage, the October evening air in San Diego stays warm enough for short sleeves, and the reggae-pop catalog that has sold 100 million records worldwide sounds exactly the way it was designed to sound: outdoors, under stars, with a crowd that knows every word to Can't Help Falling in Love and Kingston Town before the first note plays. The fact that it falls on Halloween means the costume game in the GA section is going to be worth the price of admission on its own — imagine Red Red Wine performed to a crowd dressed as superheroes. Friday, October 31. Gates at 7 PM, show at 8 PM. Tickets via AXS.

The Transformers: The Movie 40th Anniversary Celebration of Life Concert — SDCC 2026
Jul 23, 2026 House of Blues San Diego, 1055 Fif…

Hasbro's tongue-in-cheek Apology Tour arrives at House of Blues San Diego during SDCC week — and if you grew up with the 1986 Transformers movie, you already know what they're apologizing for. Forty years after the animated film that traumatized a generation (yes, THAT scene), this is the live concert celebration that turns grief into guitar solos. Stan Bush performs The Touch — the anthem that has outlived the movie, the toys, and every live-action sequel since. Vince DiCola, who scored the original film, returns with the synth-heavy compositions that defined an era. Britta Phillips, the original singing voice of Jem from Jem and the Holograms, brings an unexpected crossover that 80s kids didn't know they needed. Knights of Unicron and Cold Slither round out a lineup built for people who know that 1986 was the year animation got serious. This is not a nostalgia act. This is the room where people who cried at a cartoon robot's death — and never fully recovered — gather to hear the music that made it hit so hard. The kind of night where a stranger next to you mouths every word to Dare and you realize you've known each other your whole life. Doors open at 7 PM. Show starts at 8 PM. General admission is 50 dollars. VIP is 100 dollars and includes early entry, exclusive merch, private viewing area, and a gift bag of curated items. House of Blues San Diego is at 1055 Fifth Ave — walking distance from the Convention Center. Part of Hasbro's year-long 40th anniversary celebration of The Transformers: The Movie.

San Diego Comic-Con 2027 — Saturday
Jul 24, 2027 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

Saturday is when Comic-Con becomes what it is. Hall H fills before dawn — the line outside has been there since the night before. The franchise trailers, the cast reunions, the first looks: they all happen on a Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con. July 24, 2027. The day the industry picks to say what it couldn't say anywhere else, in front of the crowd that will carry it everywhere. Saturday programming runs across all three levels of the Convention Center simultaneously. Hall H anchors with the major franchise panels. Ballroom 20 runs television and streaming. The smaller rooms carry comics, animation, games, and the programming that doesn't make the headlines but is often better. The exhibit hall is at peak capacity on Saturday. Artist Alley is fully operational. The Off-Site activations in the Gaslamp are fully active — the marketing footprint of SDCC Saturday extends six blocks in every direction. The pinnacle of the convention calendar. The day the rest of the year has been building toward.

San Diego Comic-Con 2027 — Sunday
Jul 25, 2027 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

Sunday is the convention's exhale. Hall H empties out. The floor thins enough that you can finally see it. Badge veterans quietly rate it the second-best day of the week, and a certain kind of attendee plans the whole trip around it. The programming tilts fan-first rather than franchise-first — comics panels, creator Q&As, the closing ceremonies the broader press does not bother covering. Vendors cut deals to move inventory before teardown, and Artist Alley final-day pricing is the best it gets all week. By late afternoon people are already in the Gaslamp over dinner planning next year, which is its own tradition. It ends the same way every time: with everyone insisting it went too fast. San Diego Convention Center, 111 W Harbor Dr. Sunday, July 25, 2027. Thursday and Friday are about what this thing is becoming. Sunday is about what it has always been.

San Diego Comic Fest 2027
Apr 23 – Apr 25, 2027 San Diego, CA 92108

Somewhere in that room two strangers are deep in an argument about print runs that neither of them will win, and both are having the best afternoon of their month. That conversation mostly went extinct the moment the entertainment industry discovered comics. Here it never stopped. This is a collector's room first — condition, variant identification, print-run knowledge as the shared currency. The vendor floor is the reason to come: original art pages from creators whose names you know, silver and bronze age books priced by sellers who know their own inventory, Golden Age finds in sleeves, and a small-press aisle where independent creators sell and sign the thing they made themselves. Programming runs to history and craft, and the guests are there because they care about comics, not because a film is coming. Spring in San Diego; venue and admission post at sdcomicfest.com. Send it to the person who still has their long boxes in the closet.

San Diego Comic-Con 2027 — Thursday
Jul 22, 2027 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

Everyone tells you Saturday is the day. They are wrong, and the veterans have quietly known it for years. Thursday is thinner. Hall H is already firing, the floor is fully open, and the building hums at a register the weekend spectacle never quite reaches. Studios like to drop their surprise announcements here — timed to land at the exact point in the news cycle that buys them buzz for the rest of the week — so the reveals that feel realest happen before most of the city has even arrived. A Thursday badge is not a lesser badge. Every programming room, every screening, every exhibit, Artist Alley signings running start to finish. Outside, the Gaslamp fills with off-site activations from studios that never scored convention space, plenty of them free with a badge scan or open to anyone walking past. Send this to the friend who has lost the badge lottery a decade running. Tell them to stop aiming for the weekend.

San Diego Comic-Con 2027 — Friday
Jul 23, 2027 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

By mid-morning the building is running at capacity in every direction at once, and you have to choose. That is the real experience of Friday — not the lines, not the swag, but the low-grade grief of knowing that whatever room you pick means three rooms you will never see. Hall H is deep into its schedule. Ballroom 20 holds the overflow that did not make the Hall H line. A Friday badge gets you the exhibit floor, Artist Alley, and every programming room, and the best parts are unscheduled by design: merch drops, studio activations, a face you recognize walking a booth with no announcement. Outside, the offsites hit peak operation — studios build entire pop-ups across the surrounding blocks, badge or no badge — and the Gaslamp runs convention menus and parties that spill into the street. Take the trolley or a rideshare; the lots downtown fill early. Send it to the person you always text photos to from inside. Bring them instead.

San Diego Comic-Con 2027 — Wednesday (Preview Night)
Jul 21, 2027 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

You did not buy this badge. Nobody buys this badge. You entered a lottery, refreshed a queue page with your heart going, and either the system chose you or it did not — and that is before the convention has even opened. Four or five hours on one uncrowded floor. The people walking it are professionals, longtime attendees, and lottery winners, and they move deliberately because they already know what is here and where. Lines for the most-wanted exclusives form well before the hall opens, but the rest of it is walkable in a way that becomes physically impossible by Saturday. You learn the layout, mark the panels, and buy the thing before it evaporates. The convention center on Harbor Drive, one Wednesday evening in July, trolley running late and nowhere nearby to park. Send it to the friend who has entered that lottery three years running and still talks about it.

Crunchyroll Anime FanFest 2026 — San Diego
Jul 25 – Jul 27, 2026 222 Marina Park Way, San Diego, CA…

This is what it sounds like when 10,000 anime fans hear the opening notes of something they have been listening to alone for years. The Rady Shell sits on San Diego Bay directly behind the Convention Center, and for two days during Comic-Con it belongs to the music anime made famous. No badge, no wristband, no cost — which means the crowd is half convention-goers and half people who came for this and nothing else. The 2025 edition put SPYAIR, yama, ASH DA HERO and Denzel Curry on the same stage and it did not read as a novelty. It read as a playlist. The 2026 lineup is announced closer to the date. Hidden Leaf After Dark — Anime San Diego Official After-Party
Sep 5, 2026 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

The convention floor closes. The lights come up. You're standing in a hallway holding a prop sword and a bag of prints, and every cell in your body is saying: not yet. Hidden Leaf After Dark is the official Anime San Diego after-party — the room where the energy that built all day doesn't have to stop. Five DJs take the Convention Center stage after the panels end, spinning anime anthems remixed for a crowd that already knows every word. The cosplays stay on. The dance floor fills with people who spent the day in artist alley and are now discovering each other's moves. Shonen Riot produces this alongside Anime San Diego, so the handoff is seamless — same community, different mode. You don't need a convention badge to attend. The only thing you need is the specific feeling that the day wasn't enough. Friday, September 5, 2026. Doors 8:30 PM. San Diego Convention Center. 18+. Tickets $29.51.

There is a hallway you have only ever walked in your headphones, and now it has a door. Audible is taking over Swing Social at 527 Fifth Avenue in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter on July 24-25 for the Level Up Lounge — a free, no-badge-required offsite during San Diego Comic-Con. The activation is built around Dungeon Crawler Carl, the LitRPG phenomenon that turned a man and his cat into the most-listened audiobook series on the platform. Fans can complete themed activities to earn XP redeemable for exclusive loot and prizes. The experience includes a Bobiverse-inspired BobNet zone, a Dungeon Crawler Carl survival station where you can record your own Crawler Incident Report, cosplay touch-up stations, phone charging lounges, photo ops, and more. On Friday July 24 from noon to 6 PM, a fully wrapped Princess Donut Food Truck parks at 502 7th Avenue serving free donut holes — including the Goddamnit Donut (cinnamon), Samantha's Head (powdered sugar), and The Desperado Glaze (vanilla). Saturday features creator panels with bestselling author Matt Dinniman and narrator Jeff Hays from 1-4 PM. Free entry, first come first served.

IchibanCon San Diego 2026
Aug 22 – Aug 23, 2026 Sheraton Mission Valley, 1433 Cami…

Some conventions are so big they stop being a gathering and start being an airport. This is the opposite kind on purpose — a con at the scale where you can actually reach the artist alley, where the panels have real conversation instead of a mic line a hundred deep, and where the cosplay competition happens in a room whose audience actually knows the characters you're dressed as. The hotel setting is the whole design. You move through connected ballrooms and corridors instead of a convention center the size of a small town, the density is right, and the signing lines are short enough that the guests exist as people you can actually talk to. The vendor hall still covers everything from imported figures to local fan art — it just does it at a human scale. Doing the small local convention well is harder than it looks, and this one has quietly built a reputation for it. Sheraton Mission Valley, 1433 Camino Del Rio S — August 22–23. San Diego's at its best outside in August, and inside it's the specific warmth of a community that chose to be in one room together. Badge options and the guest list at IchibanCon's site as the date nears.

San Diego Comic-Con 2026 — Preview Night
Jul 22, 2026 Preview Night badge San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

There is one evening when the whole thing belongs to almost nobody. The exhibitors are still tightening their displays, the signs are up, and the floor is walkable in a way it will not be again until it is over. Preview Night is that evening, and the people holding the badge know exactly what it is worth. The buying is different — the limited exclusives that will be gone by Saturday morning are sitting right there, and everyone around you knows it too. But the real gift is the pace. You can cross the exhibit hall. You can talk to the people who built the booths. You can take a photo that is not mostly the backs of strangers' heads. It is the most anticipated event in the world caught in its last quiet breath before the weekend swallows it whole. San Diego Convention Center, 111 W Harbor Dr. Preview Night badges go through comic-con.org, and they go early. The harbor is out the window and the doors are about to open. It is the right way to begin.

San Diego Comic-Con 2026
Jul 22 – Jul 26, 2026 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

For one week the city stops belonging to the people who live in it, and most of them would not have it any other way. Hall H seats 6,500, and the panels there break the internet before the room finishes reacting. The exhibit hall rewards people who arrive knowing what they are hunting, because 130,000 others are in the building too. The artist alley is the actual heart of it — original work from creators whose names you know off the spines of things you have read for years. If you are local without a badge, do not write the week off. The Gaslamp Quarter during the convention becomes its own event, and the screenings, activations, and public programming outside the building are free and genuinely substantial. San Diego Convention Center, 111 W Harbor Dr. Badges are lottery-accessed through comic-con.org, with registration opening in the fall for the following year. Hotel blocks follow the same process. If you have a badge, it repays every hour you put into it.

The Hello Kitty Cafe Truck rolls in with macarons, madeleines, and custom quarter-zips. KAYOU's Walls of Fandom celebrates trading card culture with large-format displays. The Labu'Tique Farmers Market brings Labubus, Squishy Toys, Jelly Cats, and Needohs — the kind of plush haul your inner child has been waiting for. Jul 23 – Jul 26, 2026 423 F Street, San Diego, CA 92101

During the four days when 130,000 people descend on downtown San Diego for the world's biggest pop culture convention, there is a small restaurant on F Street that becomes something else entirely. Lumpia Con returns for its fifth year as the Filipino American heartbeat of Comic-Con week. No badge required. Gaslamp Lumpia Factory hosts exclusive pop-ups, artist events, community mixers, and signings — free and open to anyone who knows to show up. The lineup runs Thursday July 23 through the weekend: Sketch and Scratch opens with live art and music; Friday brings a meet-and-greet with artist signings; Saturday closes out the weekend programming. Every night ends at midnight, because the convention floor crowds thin out and this one fills up. By the fourth day everyone is running on no sleep and pure generosity, and it makes the crowd better rather than worse — looser, kinder, glad to tell you where they got that. Sunday is when the cosplay hits full intensity, because it is the last chance to wear the thing you spent all year building. The announcements have already happened. What is left is the floor: publishers moving stock they do not want to ship home, creators selling the last of their limited prints, deals that did not exist on Thursday. Late July in that building, harbor visible through the glass, fifty thousand people who flew in from everywhere — nothing else replicates it. San Diego Convention Center, July 26th, badges from $50 for the final day, and they do not linger. 8th Annual Comic Con Bar Crawl
Jul 22 – Jul 24, 2026 TORO, 672 Fifth Ave, Gaslamp Quart…

Comic-Con doesn't stop when the convention center closes on Preview Night — it just pours into the Gaslamp. The costumes come out, the bars run themed specials, and for one night the streets fill with people in full character and nowhere to be until tomorrow. This is the after-hours version, and it's a spectacle the show floor can't match. The crawl lives right where convention culture and bar culture overlap, so the crowd is the one fluent in both. The builds range from foam armor somebody worked on for six months to a printed badge and a good attitude, and both are equally welcome — the density of cosplay on Fifth and Sixth during SDCC week is unmatched anywhere in the city. You don't need a Preview Night badge to be part of it; you just need a character you can commit to and a willingness to keep moving. Start at TORO, 672 Fifth Ave in the Gaslamp, on July 23 and follow the route through the participating venues. Wristband options and the full stop list at barcrawls.com/san-diego. San Diego Comic-Con 2026 — Saturday
Jul 25, 2026 From $65 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

Saturday is the day the whole thing stops pretending to be a convention and becomes whatever it actually is. The floor hits full density. The cosplay reaches an intensity that pulls photographers in from other cities. Hall H holds the panels people slept on concrete for, and the exhibit hall is the fullest it will get all week, every booth running, every exclusive either in somebody's hands or already gone, every aisle moving at the speed of a hundred and thirty thousand people who all made plans. The Saturday afternoon cosplay density is its own documented phenomenon, and by evening the Gaslamp reaches a pitch the rest of the year never approaches. Saturday badges are the hardest to get for exactly this reason. If you have one you already know the assignment: reach the halls you care about early, then leave a hole in the day big enough for the thing you could not have planned. That is the part you will still be telling people about. Comic-Con finds you on Saturday. Let it.

San Diego Comic-Con 2026 — Thursday
Jul 23, 2026 From $65 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

The people in those seats on Thursday morning have been planning this exact day since last year's badges sold out, and the studios know it — which is why the reveals land the way they do, into a room that is fully awake and fully invested. Thursday is the underrated day. The weekend crush has not arrived, Friday's floor pace is still a day off, and the panels that run now set the tone for everything after. Exhibit hall lines exist, but they are lines you can actually stand in. If you are going a single day and want both hall access and real time on the floor, this is the answer: all of the access, a fraction of the Saturday density. The week starts in earnest the moment that first panel ends and the floor opens. San Diego Convention Center, July 24th, badges from $65. Go with the person who will let you drag them to a panel about something they have never heard of.

San Diego Comic-Con 2026 — Friday
Jul 24, 2026 From $65 San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

By Friday the nerves are gone. Thursday's opening-day disbelief has burned off, everyone knows which escalator is a trap, and the convention finally becomes the thing it actually is. Hall H has fired its first reveals, so the room now has proof it was worth the line. The exhibit hall is running at capacity. Cosplay density peaks — this is the day the costumes that took a year to build come out, because the people who built them also know what Friday is. Studios schedule their biggest panels for it on purpose, which is why single-day Friday badges are the first to disappear every year. If you are chasing one specific Hall H moment, this is the day you commit to the line. If you are here for the floor, the artist alley, and the way the Gaslamp keeps going long after the halls close, all of it runs at once and none of it lets up until the lights go down. Send it to the friend who has been entering the badge lottery since the year you met.

The walls are ten feet tall and covered in trading card art you have been staring at on your phone screen for months — except now the colors are the size of your entire body and you are standing inside the frame. KAYOU makes its San Diego Comic-Con debut in 2026 with the Walls of Fandom, a free immersive walkthrough experience at the Interactive Zone at Petco Park. This is KAYOU's first convention appearance, and they brought everything: larger-than-life installations inspired by their trading card lines spanning Naruto, My Little Pony, Demon Slayer, and K-pop collectibles. The experience is a love letter to the artwork behind the cards — the craftsmanship that usually lives behind a plastic sleeve, blown up to a scale where you can finally see the brushstrokes. Beyond the walls: on-site card purchasing, a fan meetup at Tito Rick's Garage (2918 Imperial Ave) on Friday July 24 from 5-9pm with trading sessions and casual My Little Pony TCG play, and the SDCC-exclusive Superfan Passport — collect stamps across KAYOU's three locations and unlock rewards. July 23-26, 10am-5pm daily (Sunday until 4pm). Free admission, no badge required.

Comic Tron - Comic Con After Party
Jul 25 – Jul 26, 2026 1337 India Street, San Diego, CA 9…

The convention center goes dark at six, but the people inside it don't power down — they just need somewhere to put the charge. That's the whole reason a tribute act spent years building replica chromed helmets, a full-scale pyramid stage, and electro-luminescent suits that glow like the inside of a game grid. They believe the best hours of Comic-Con week aren't on the floor at all — they're after, when the badge comes off and the costume stays on and a room full of strangers turns out to be exactly your people. Little Italy's Music Box becomes a Tron sequence for one night: futuristic beats, glowing everything, an "Alive 2007"-style spectacle that treats Daft Punk like scripture. Cosplayers, ravers, and the SDCC crowd who refuse to call it a night all end up under the same lights. You do not need a Comic-Con badge to walk in. Doors at 8PM, the night ignites at 9PM, Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Music Box, 1337 India Street, San Diego, CA 92101. Tickets through Belly Up.

Thrilljoy Block Party: Rock the Block — SDCC 2026
Jul 25, 2026 InterContinental San Diego, 901 Ba…

The collectibles community has its own SDCC — and this is it. Thrilljoy's Rock the Block takes over the InterContinental San Diego on Saturday night of Comic-Con week with exclusive PIX Packs, carnival games, giveaways, and the kind of energy that only happens when people who obsess over the same things end up in the same room. When tickets launched, bots crashed the site. Thrilljoy had to manually cancel suspicious purchases and restore spots for real collectors. That is not a marketing story — that is the community telling you how badly they wanted in. The demand is the signal. Every attendee gets two drink tickets, food, and an exclusive Block Party PIX Pack with event-only items you cannot get anywhere else. This is the party where your shelf gets something nobody else's shelf has. The games and giveaways run all night. The venue is steps from the Convention Center — close enough to still feel the SDCC energy, far enough to breathe. Ages 5 and up. Doors at 6 PM, runs until 11 PM. Tickets are 165 dollars and limited to 2 per person — this is intentionally small. The InterContinental San Diego is at 901 Bayfront Ct, right on the waterfront. If you collect, this is your Saturday night.

Ready Party One: The Final Level
Jul 22 – Jul 23, 2026 $30–$75 615 Broadway, San Diego, CA 92101

Someone decided years ago that the night before the badges go live shouldn't be spent packing a bag in a hotel room. They believed the people who fly in early — the cosplayers, the arcade diehards, the friends who only see each other once a year on this one downtown block — needed a room of their own before the show floor ever opened. So they built one, and they've rebuilt it every summer since 2018. This year it's a neon-lit digital battlefield: arcade legends and fighting-game champions, console warriors, the golden age of gaming rendered in light and bass. There's an 80s tribute band that has been part of this since the beginning, a 90s band, DJs scratching records, and a few thousand people who all got the same text from the same friend that said "this is us, we're going." It is the unofficial opening ceremony of the week — the moment the city stops being a place you visit and starts being a place you belong to. Logistics: Wednesday, July 22, 2026, 8:00 PM to 2:00 AM at Parq Nightclub, 615 Broadway, San Diego, CA 92101 (Preview Night, the night before Comic-Con officially opens). Kevin Smith Live at American Comedy Co — SDCC 2026
Jul 23 – Jul 25, 2026 818 Sixth Avenue, San Diego, CA 92…

The best Comic-Con happens when you leave the convention center. Kevin Smith has run on that principle for over a decade, and his SDCC residency is the proof -- a filmmaker who genuinely cannot stop talking, in a room full of people who genuinely want to listen. From July 23 through 25, 2026, Smith brings four of his signature live formats to the 200-seat American Comedy Co in the Gaslamp Quarter. Thursday opens with Fatman Beyond, Smith's weekly deep-dive into superhero movies and comic book culture, co-hosted with Marc Bernardin. This is the format that predicted the DCU reboot two years before it was announced. The crowd is not passive -- they shout corrections, demand hot takes, and occasionally know more than the hosts. Friday doubles up: Jay and Silent Bob Are In The Hizzhouse brings Jason Mewes for the duo's famously unpredictable chemistry, followed by Comics On With Jay and Silent Bob, a show-and-tell of the week's actual comic books. Saturday finishes with Diary of a Man Child and Hollywood Babble On, Smith's signature irreverent Hollywood storytelling format. The venue seats 200. Comic-Con draws 130,000. The math is the appeal -- this is the show your friends cannot get into. Smith has been doing these SDCC residencies for over a decade, and the regulars treat it like a reunion. The comedy is not polished stand-up; it's a filmmaker who cannot stop talking, in a room full of people who want to listen. Every show is different because Smith does not have a set -- he has stories that have not been told yet. Tickets are 53 dollars per show, 21 and over, with a two-drink minimum. American Comedy Co is at 818 Sixth Avenue in the Gaslamp, walking distance from the Convention Center. Shows sell out -- the 2025 run was gone within hours of announcement.

The Lodge is what happens when a streaming service decides to stop showing you trailers and start putting you inside the show. Paramount+ returns to San Diego Comic-Con with a free 50-minute immersive experience that drops you into the worlds of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, South Park, and UFC — not as a viewer, but as someone who was always supposed to be there. Each room is a different universe. You will scan a starship bridge console, dodge Cartman's commentary, bend alongside Aang, and step into the cage atmosphere of a UFC event. The interactive moments are paired with exclusive photo ops and free swag that changes daily. This is not a booth. This is a choose-your-own-adventure through Paramount's catalog that rewards the fans who showed up. Advance reservations are available through Fever, but standby lines run all day for walk-ups. Open July 22 through July 26 at Happy Does Bar, 340 Fifth Avenue in the Gaslamp Quarter. Thursday through Sunday, 9am to 7pm. Free admission. PAWmicon 2026 — Comic-Con Pet Cosplay at Balboa Park
Jul 21, 2026 Presidents Way Lawn, Balboa Park, …

Somewhere in your house there is an animal who has been waiting for this. Not for the walk, not for the treat jar — for the moment someone finally sees what you have always known: that your dog was born to be a superhero. PAWmicon is Helen Woodward Animal Center's annual pre-Comic-Con costume contest, and it turns the Presidents Way Lawn at Balboa Park into the most wholesome red carpet San Diego will see all week. Three categories — Flying Solo, Duos and Trios, and Fantastic Floats (for pets with a ride) — and every entry gets a crowd that screams like it is Hall H. The difference is that here, nobody is pretending to be excited. The golden retriever in the Spider-Man suit genuinely believes he is saving the city, and honestly, he might be right. The event is free to watch. Entry is $20 in advance, $30 at the door. It launches on Tuesday, July 21 at 4 PM, two days before Comic-Con opens — which means it is the first cosplay competition of the week, and the only one where the contestants will love you unconditionally afterward. Presidents Way Lawn, Balboa Park, near the Air and Space Museum. Bring a blanket. Bring your phone. Bring the dog who has been rehearsing.

Something about a pirate ship on the waterfront makes you feel like you already missed the best part — even though it hasn't started yet. Adult Swim on the Green returns to San Diego Comic-Con 2026 with four days of free chaos at Bayfront Park, no badge required. This isn't a booth with a brochure. It's a full-scale fan festival — games, rides, giveaways, dance parties, and evening programming that turns a parking lot into the kind of night you'll describe poorly to coworkers on Monday. Thursday brings an exclusive content screening. Friday: live table reads with the Rick and Morty voice cast. Saturday: Adult Swim Through the Years, a cosplay dance party with a live animation set by Afuchs Twin. The first 700 fans each day get exclusive prizes, which means showing up at noon is either dedication or delusion depending on how badly you want a collectible pin. If you've ever quoted Birdman at a dinner party and watched the table go silent, your people are here. July 23-26, 1pm-10pm daily (Sunday 11am-4pm). Free admission. No badge needed. Just show up and let the pirate ship explain itself.

San Diego Comic-Con 2026 — San Diego, CA
Jul 23 – Jul 26, 2026 From $75 (1-day) San Diego Convention Center, 111 W…

The badge lottery closes months before anyone knows who is actually showing up, which is the first strange truth about Comic-Con: you commit to being in San Diego before you have any idea what you'll get to see. What you get is the closest proximity to what's coming in film, TV, comics, and gaming that any event on earth offers. The experience splits in two depending on how you engage. There's the inside game: badge in hand, in the Hall H line at 4am for a panel that will be dissected online before you walk out, hunting exclusive merch in the Exhibit Hall, scoring a signature from a creator you've followed for years. And there's the outside game, increasingly its own event - Petco Park and the Gaslamp Quarter fill with activations, giveaways, and pop-ups that require no badge at all. The city becomes the convention, and SDCC has outgrown the convention center by design. It's worth it, but go in with clear priorities. The Exhibit Hall alone is a full day. The panel schedule runs simultaneously across twenty rooms, so choices are constant and FOMO is structural. First-timers should identify their top three panels and build backward from there; everything else is bonus. The badge lottery typically opens in January, and returning attendees get priority in OPEN registration. If you miss the lottery, the outside events - which are free - are genuinely excellent. The Hall H overnight line is real and forms the night before major panels. Buy exclusives online if possible to avoid the floor scrum. San Diego in July is warm and sunny; the Gaslamp is walkable from the center; parking is brutal, so take the trolley or Uber. Comic-Con International has been a nonprofit running this since 1970, and the original vision - a gathering that took comics seriously as literature and art - persists under all the studio noise. The programming outside Hall H skews closer to that original spirit: creator spotlights, comics history panels, portfolio reviews, and an Artist Alley representing the actual comics community rather than its Hollywood adaptation. It is the annual gravity well of popular culture, a four-day event that shapes the next twelve months. San Diego Convention Center. July 23-26, 2026.

Somewhere past the fountain, after the light drops behind the eucalyptus, you will hear a hum and then a crack, and you will follow the sound the way everybody else does. Dozens of people who built their own sabers gather during Comic-Con week to settle who can actually fight with one. It has been going for ten years now, and what started as enthusiasts swinging illuminated polycarbonate has turned into a real circuit: choreographed duels, freestyle bouts, fighters who train for months at a time. The blades crack audibly when they connect. Nobody in the crowd arrives expecting it to be genuinely athletic, and everybody figures that out inside of one round. Balboa Park at sundown, free to watch, no badge and no reservation, you simply walk up. Bring the kids. Bring the adult who insists they were never into any of this. Neither of them will forget it.

MAVERiC Studio Night Market & Dice Goblins — SDCC 2026
Jul 24, 2026 1100 Market St, San Diego, CA 92101

Friday night of Comic-Con week, when the convention center locks its doors and the Gaslamp fills with people who still have energy to burn, a night market opens at UC San Diego Park & Market that exists for the people who came to San Diego because they love games, not just the ones on screens. Dice Goblins is a tabletop gaming night market where the vendor tables sell handmade dice sets, custom miniatures, indie RPG zines, and the kind of leather-bound journals that make you want to start a campaign just so you have somewhere to write. MAVERiC Studio hosts this as a free event that does not require a Comic-Con badge. The format is part night market, part gaming lounge. Tables are set up for pickup games. Indie game designers demo unreleased titles. The dice merchants are there because they know that Comic-Con week concentrates more tabletop gamers per square mile than any other week in any other city, and they are right. The crowd is a mix of D&D lifers, Pathfinder converts, miniature painters who brought their work, and people who have never rolled a d20 but are about to. Doors open at 5:00 PM and run until 11:30 PM. The location at Park & Market puts it close enough to the Gaslamp that you can walk from the convention center but far enough that the vibe is its own thing. Free entry. No badge. Just tabletop culture, after dark, during the week when that culture peaks.

FilAm CreatorCon Mixer — SDCC 2026 Offsite at Pizza Kaiju
Jul 26, 2026 Pizza Kaiju, 1985 National Ave Sui…

There is a room in San Diego where the stories your lola told you live alongside the panels you waited six hours to see — and on Saturday night during Comic-Con, that room opens its doors at Pizza Kaiju. FilAm CreatorCon's SDCC Mixer is a free evening gathering that brings together Filipino American creators working in comic books, film, literature, tattooing, dance, music, and every creative form in between. This is not a panel or a signing — it is a casual networking night where the Filipino American pop culture community comes together during the biggest fan convention in the world, hosted by DJ G Money and WinLove. Pizza Kaiju sits at 1985 National Avenue in Barrio Logan, a short ride from the Convention Center but a world away from the badge-gated chaos of the main floor. No Comic-Con badge is required. No cover charge. Just show up. What makes this gathering different from the dozen other SDCC parties happening the same night is specificity. This is not for fans in the abstract — it is for Filipino Americans who create, who consume, who see themselves in the work and want to be in the same room as the people making it. The artists who draw the books, the filmmakers who tell the stories, the chefs who bridge food and fandom. If that sentence describes you or someone you know, this is the room. FilAm CreatorCon has grown from a small gathering into a fixture of SDCC week, and the mixer is the most accessible entry point — no tickets, no waitlist, no badge. Come for the music, stay for the connections, leave knowing the community is bigger than you thought.

The Green Lantern Training Headquarters takes over Venue 808 in the Gaslamp during San Diego Comic-Con, July 23-26. The Lodge is a free immersive experience that requires no Comic-Con badge, no lottery luck, and no line strategy beyond showing up. This is the fourth year Paramount+ has transformed Happy Does Bar into a walk-through activation built around their biggest franchises. Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, South Park, and UFC each get their own room, their own photo ops, and their own exclusive swag that you can only get by walking through the door. The experience runs approximately fifty minutes and is designed to reward the fans who showed up to San Diego for the culture, not just the convention center. Reservations are recommended through Paramount's channels, but a standby line runs all week for walk-ups. The Lodge opens July 22 and runs through July 26 at 340 Fifth Avenue in the Gaslamp Quarter, right in the middle of the offsite corridor where Comic-Con week spills out beyond the convention walls. No ticket. No badge. Just a door that opens into a room where a streaming service remembered that the best marketing is giving people something they actually want to experience.

Anime Conji 2026 — San Diego
May 22 – May 24, 2026 Handlery Hotel, 950 Hotel Cir N, S…

Anime Conji is San Diego's longest-running fan-organized anime convention, held annually at the Handlery Hotel in Mission Valley for a three-day weekend of anime, manga, gaming, cosplay, and the specific community that has kept this event running for over a decade as an independent, fan-operated alternative to the larger commercial conventions. The convention's fan-run character gives Anime Conji a distinct personality: the programming decisions are made by people who attend because they genuinely love the material, the guest selection reflects real community enthusiasm rather than marketing considerations, and the convention floor has the energy of a community gathering rather than a marketplace. Anime Conji features programming across multiple rooms covering series-specific panels, AMV (anime music video) competitions, voice actor guest Q&As and signings, a dealers room with merchandise from licensed and independent vendors, an artist alley with original work from regional creators, and a cosplay competition with detailed craftsmanship judging. The Handlery Hotel is at 950 Hotel Cir N in Mission Valley, accessible from the I-8 at Hotel Circle. The Mission Valley Trolley stop connects to downtown San Diego. Convention badge holders receive discounted hotel rates at the Handlery when booking through the Anime Conji room block. Weekend and single-day badges available through the Anime Conji website.

Indigi-Con 2026 — Indigenous Comics and Storytelling, SDCC Week
Jul 23, 2026 UC San Diego Park and Market, 1100…

Comic-Con week is mostly parties, and then there's one afternoon where the work actually matters -- Indigenous artists and writers in a room built for their storytelling instead of the queue for Hall H. Indigi-Con is a half-day of panels, conversations, and art from Indigenous comics artists and writers, presented by the Indigenous Futures Institute, focused on how Indigenous storytelling traditions meet the contemporary comics form. Its own programming day, its own curatorial voice, its own reason to be downtown during SDCC week. No badge required, free admission. Bring the friend who reads the small-press table before the main floor. The community here is not the one lining up for the big panels, and that is precisely the point. UC San Diego Park and Market, 1100 Market Street, East Village. July 23, 2026, 3:30 to 8 PM.

SD Comic Fest 2026
May 15 – May 17, 2026 Town and Country Resort, 500 Hotel…

SD Comic Fest is San Diego's answer to the San Diego Comic-Con overflow — a grassroots fan convention held in the spring that brings together the collector, creator, and fan communities that SDCC serves but in a more intimate, accessible format that specifically celebrates the print comics, vintage collecting, and creator culture that defined pre-corporate convention culture. Comic Fest focuses deliberately on what made comics conventions exciting before they became entertainment industry marketing events: original art dealers, back issue sellers, independent comic book creators at tables selling and signing their work, panel discussions about comics history and craft, and a collecting community that considers itself custodians of an art form. Cosplay is present but not the focal point. The vendor room at Comic Fest is a genuine market for original comic art pages, silver and bronze age books at fair prices, Golden Age finds, and small press publications from independent creators who wouldn't command a presence at SDCC's massive floor. This is where a collector who loves comics as objects — drawn pages, printed paper, the specific history of the medium — finds things they can't find anywhere else. SD Comic Fest typically runs in late April or early May in San Diego at the Town and Country Resort or similar event venue. The convention is all-ages and admission is charged at the door, with weekend passes available. Check the SD Comic Fest website for the confirmed 2026 dates and venue closer to the event.

San Diego International Comic Con
Jul 25 – Jul 28, 2024 San Diego International Comic Con …

Downtown stops being an office district and becomes a place where a stranger in full armor holds the crosswalk button for a family with strollers, and nobody finds it remarkable. That is the part people who have never gone do not understand — this is not a trade show. It is the week when the thing you love in private becomes the default language on the street. Comics are still the spine of it, but the floor spilled long ago into movies, television, gaming, and interactive work that did not have a name when this started. The convention center downtown holds the official version; the sidewalks, the hotel lobbies and the lines hold the rest, and the lines are where people actually meet each other. Go with the person you have been explaining your favorite series to for years, and let them find out there are thousands more.

Prime Video’s Culture Rated presents “Blerd & Boujee: A Celebration of Black Nerd Culture” SDCC Party
Jul 26 – Jul 27, 2024 Venue 808, 808 J Street, San Diego…

Every summer San Diego Comic-Con transforms the Gaslamp Quarter into a constellation of private events, industry showcases, and cultural celebrations that never make it onto the official schedule. In 2024, Prime Video turned one of those rooms into something that mattered — a night called Blerd & Boujee, built around the proposition that Black nerd culture is not a niche but a civilization with its own canon, its own dress code, and its own definition of cool. The party was held during SDCC weekend, positioned as a Culture Rated activation — Prime Video's ongoing initiative to spotlight content and community at the intersection of Blackness and genre fiction, anime fandom, gaming, cosplay, and speculative storytelling. The guest list skewed toward creators, influencers, and fans who live at that crossroads — people who grew up code-switching between Dragon Ball Z and the Essence Festival, between Magic: The Gathering and Afrofuturism. What made the night distinctive was its refusal to treat the audience as a subset. Most SDCC satellite events position diverse fandoms as a lane within the larger convention ecosystem. Blerd & Boujee positioned itself as the room the convention should have built first. Music, themed cocktails, cosplay showcases, and curated content previews framed around the idea that if you understood the reference, you were already home. The event is part of a broader cultural moment: the recognition that the largest growth segment in American fandom is multicultural, genre-fluent, and intensely communal. Studios are learning that these audiences do not need to be invited — they need to be acknowledged. Blerd & Boujee was Prime Video's way of saying: we see you, and we built this room for you. For anyone tracking the evolution of pop culture events in the SDCC ecosystem, Blerd & Boujee represents a template — the corporate activation that actually felt like a gathering. It ran once. The format is replicable. The community it served is permanent.
